Lin's paused and looked thoughtful because she hadn't stopped to think of which of the kanji she wanted to spell Miyuki's name as it would affect the end translation.

"Beautiful snow," Lin finally settled on one and made a note to write it down somewhere so she wouldn't have to think about that again.

The babe scrunched up her nose at the touch as she tried to look at Earendil's tapping finger. Her ears twitched and like any good curious baby tried to reach out and grab his finger.

Earendil chuckled and let her have his finger, sitting down to make it easier to hold her.

"That is very pretty," he said again, this time about the meaning. He nodded at the seat next to him, indicating for Lin to sit. "So you'll have to tell me ... where did she come from, and how? And why you? Senka said something about a bird, and that's where babies in your world come from, but to be honest it all confuses me ..."

Lin chewed her lower lip, even she didn't know how to explain the unusual nature that was her family. Taking a seat beside him she looked thoughtful all the while resisting the urge to roll her eyes at Senka.

"The truth is I don't know why, but seeing as my family has a long history of not expecting their children, I just sort of shrugged it off as normal. Trust me it's not actually normal."

Let's not give Earendil the wrong impression of Gaia thank you.

"Normal babies come like any other child, from the womb, but then you have us. Children who come from vases, paintings, feathers, magical portals, cabbages or in Miyuki's case brought by a stork. Apparently it had been tapping on my window waiting for me to come home, fortunately that was only for three days."

Otherwise she wouldn't have put it past her father to shoot the bird.

"This for my family is very normal, there is a reason why my mother has twenty plus children without ever giving birth until she had her twenty-third and twenty-fourth child."

She pasued and thought about it for a while.

"At least I think that's the number they are."

Earendil laughed. "Well, I knew you had come from a vase, and that a lot of Aunt Elnara's kids did too, and that some of them came from feathers or whatever, but I didn't know about regular children. And with the stories that come from your world, it wouldn't surprise me really."

He chuckled and flicked Senka his last piece of fish. "It's a bit of a relief to know there's at least something in common between our worlds, though. Even if I won't ever get to go there, it's nice to know that some things are the same."

Lin always kind of wished that Earendil would visit her world but that was a childish thought she knew. Besides he had already met her whole immediate family minus the latest pair what more could she ask for in that regard? Besides, there were times especially after she got back from the sailing trip that Gaia would be a bit too odd for Earendil.

It sort of made her wonder how Elnara first handled it all.

Watching Senka pounce on the last of his fish, honestly he spoiled Senka but it would make up for all the attention she had been giving Miyuki.

"It's... in the most basic way not that different," she silently added depending on where one went.

Her eyes drifted to the little foxy girl who was at the moment trying to put Earendil's finger into her mouth. Which didn't surprise Lin at all.

Earendil let Miyuki suck on his finger, but only the very tip of it. He was clean, he knew, so he wasn't very worried.

"It's odd," he said quietly, "but despite knowing about the time difference, and about my family's worries, I still find myself wishing that I could see your world. At least your home or something. You have seen more of my world than I have, and yet I have never seen yours at all."

He smiled faintly at Lin, his face red. "It is foolish of me, I know, but it is hard to control one's thoughts, after all."

Lin smiled at that, it was.. nice to know that Earendil was interested in her home. She didn't know why, after all her home would be interesting just because it was weird.

"And after seeing all the types of people who come through it I can imagine."

It was different after all, there was a reason why Lin liked to explore here, it was different to her, even though by now it had become frighteningly familiar.

Earendil chuckled and looked back down at Miyuki. "Well, yes. And especially seeing that even with the many different races that I have seen from your world, there are more that I had not yet heard of, not yet even imagined ..."

He grinned sheepishly. "Do you know how tempting it is sometimes just to go through the portal on my own? It's only about thirty feet below us, after all. It would be so easy ..."

Still, he knew it would not be a good idea, and so he kept himself from going through with the idea.

"You'll send the main house into a panic," Lin told him jokingly.

Though in a way she was serious, the runes were set to family members and good intent. Earendil she knew was nothing but good intent but it made her wonder how the runes would react to him. Out of all of the places in on the clan grounds the portals were the family's biggest weak spot and they had a responsbility to make sure no one of ill intent from their side got through too.

Earendil laughed. "Would I really? It's not like they wouldn't know me there, would they? I mean, sure I haven't seen most of them since the wedding, but that can't have been terribly long for your family yet, can it?"

He chuckled. "Incidentally, how long were you gone from their world when we went our trip?"

They had been gone for six years, he wondered how long that had been in Gaia time.

"A month and a half," Lin laughed.

What was even odder was that she had converted that into Elvish months without even thinking about it.

"But a lot can happen in a month and a half," she admitted, "In fact the family celebrated two major holidays in that month and a half so..."

She chuckled because she completely missed the presents that were piled up in her room because she had been in a panic about Miyuki.

Earendil grinned. "Not very long then. Your parents were glad to see you? Was it as chaotic as when we arrived back here?"

He was well aware that her family was much larger than his, and also that they were far less formal - so if a formal family could be so chaotic on a special occasion, what would a not so formal family be like?

Lin giggled, "No more chaotic than usual... Not everyone lives at the main house, even though they all live on the same grounds. Mom and Dad were thrilled, though I think they were a bit distracted by Miyuki."

Even her father was, but she had a feeling it was because he thought it was hilarlous as hell.

"I spent the first day visiting everyone who didn't live in the main hosue."

Not just because she came home but they all had to know about Miyuki it was tradition after all.

Earendil chuckled softly. "I can well imagine. And how long were you home before you came back? You don't look much different than when you left, so I would venture to say not long at all."

Though it could be, if she were so excited about a child - or so distracted - that she had simply forgotten about returning her appearance to usual. Though her skin was still a bit dark from the summer sun ...

"Three days," Lin grinned sheepishly, "That was how long Shiro figured we could stay before it became too long."

By this point it seemed that Miyuki had fallen asleep, probably time for her nap since she was so active earlier, and she was still at that age where naps were needed.

"First day visiting everyone, second day getting things for Miyuki and the morning of the third day trying to get everything together again."
