The Imperator didn't know what to think. There was Kaok, but she was human. At the same time though, that couldn't have been her. A flood of emotions and questions ran through him. What had she done to herself? Why did she do it? He walked forward towards the machine and shot Cairndeer a glare that had once caused an unruly Legatus to lose control of his bladder. There was a brief silence.
"What the hell have you done to her?!" Remus yelled, his hands balling up. He was about ready to send James to the hospital again.

Spent my days with a woman unkind, Smoked my stuff and drank all my wine. Made up my mind to make a new start, Going to california with an aching in my heart.

"No." James' eyes went wide. "No, I swear to God it wasn't supposed to do this."
Evros interjected. "Imperator, the machine malfunctioned. It was meant to separate out her thoughts, not make her this way."
"It shouldn't even be able to do whatever it is that it did." The elf nodded, looking desperately at the other doctor. For the love of God, help me.
"It was supposed to rid her of the hallucinations." Malcolm nodded. The fins on the alien's face contracted and opened as he looked at the two men. "But the machine may well have been sabotaged."Someone told me theres a girl out there With love in her eyes and flowers in her hair. Took my chances on a big jet plane, Never let them tell you that theyre all the same.

"They're not hall-" Emma's throat closed up yet again as she tried to violate her oath. Only after a few moments of struggle did she relent, gasping for breath as she started Carnideer down.
"Sabotaged?" the sorcerer asked, forcing his hands away from his own neck and remaining eerily calm while Emma raged.

The Imperator had the decency to not begin wailing on James in front of Chris. He turned around and pushed several glass vials off of a counter onto the floor, shattering them. Remus had been angry in the past, but no one had ever seen him angry like this.
"Some machine you created! That's my fiance you went and screwed up! Give me one ******** good reason why I shouldn't call the Praetorians in here to tear that infernal device apart?!"

Chris stared shocked. "Oh-. Oh... oh my god."
Kaok was human. Th-This was a little too much. Chris' legs gave out.
"This-. This-." Chris kept holding James' hand. "Remus I'm sure James wouldn't mean for this to happen...." She didn't want James in the hospital again.
"And... sabotaged...?" Chris repeated. Confused, heart throbbing from seeing James' in pain - and the fact that this was all happening while she was bearing a child was just over the top.

"Yes, sabotaged. There's another doctor that works here-." Evros began, but James shook his head. It couldn't be her. It had to be someone on the outside.
Cairndeer's eyes darted to Chris, then to Remus. The emperor was angry, but the elf crawled past to get to the woman bearing his child.
"Because destroying it would reduce the chance that we find what went wrong, and if we don't it means that we can't fix it." He didn't look at the man as he spoke to him.
"Emperor, sir, please." Malcolm spoke up again. "It wasn't Dr. Cairndeer's invention. Give me a moment, I can see what went wrong and why it happened, and then any consequences should be dealt to the scientist that created the infernal device."Someone told me theres a girl out there With love in her eyes and flowers in her hair. The nobles were dead silent as Emma moved to stand beside her husband, their hands just barely touching. Shadows moved towards them, gathering at their feet, swirling as if moved by the air currents. Emma's eyes were chips of ice and the temperature around her was sub-arctic.
Her anger matched Remus', but in the opposite end of the spectrum.

Remus' piercing gaze jerked over to Dr. Evros. "Yes, you had better do that. We wouldn't want anything else to go wrong, now would we?" he snapped.
The Imperator paused for a moment, catching his breath. His throat began to have a scratchy feeling from the yelling he did.
"How long is she going to be that way?" he asked nobody in particular.

The doctor made a slight squeak in fear and went to fetch his tools.
Cairndeer shook his head. "Impossible to tell, the machine's effect wasn't supposed to ever wear off, but it's not exactly keen on doing what it's supposed to do apparently."
The previously quiet human Kaok still in the machine looked around frantically at the others in the lab.
"Why am I naked?"Someone told me theres a girl out there With love in her eyes and flowers in her hair. Took my chances on a big jet plane, Never let them tell you that theyre all the same.

Chris just sat there stunned.
"Remus, be glad she isn't dead." Chris sighed. "I am glad that she's not hurt... and I'm glad your not hurt anymore James."
Chris felt weak. Her heart was finally calming. As long as he was okay and Kaok wasn't dead. But her being human was... a surprise. "Kaok... I have no idea why are you naked."

The shadows followed Emma across the room as she conjured a thick cloak for Kaok, wrapping it around her shoulders with a gentle touch that contrasted greatly with the tightly coiled fury in her features. She withdrew without a word, letting Remus be the one to handle his fiance-half of his fiance.
Which left Emma wondering...where was the other half?

Now sufficiently covered, the newly human woman attempted to stand. She didn't appear to be concerned about the lack of hooves, but still had a hard time in her endeavor. Part of the brain wasn't used to walking like this. Leaning on the metal of the machine, she carefully made her way out of it, and then promptly leaned back on a counter for a while, drawing the cloak she now wore very close to her. She appeared to be little else but confused. At times she'd regard one of the people in the room as if she were looking at a total stranger.
Evros began his diagnostic work on the Centrifuge in the mean time. Every once in a while he'd stop his work and sit there, baffled, and say 'no, no that's all wrong.' Where Emma had figured out part of what had happened, Evros was just discovering.
"I have a theory. Her father is human, correct?"Someone told me theres a girl out there With love in her eyes and flowers in her hair. Took my chances on a big jet plane, Never let them tell you that theyre all the same.

((Sorry. David had to catch a bounty. I'll go back to my other account shortly.))
Remus walked over to the machine he had begun to hate so much. He reached a hand out to her so as to help her out of the machine.
"Kaok..." he trailed off, unsure of what to say.

"He is human, yes." Emma said tersely, the shades at her feet (and her lord's) gathering strength, tendrils darting out to touch her fingertips, as if begging to be taken up and used.
The tracking spell was still flashing even in its fragmented state. Part of her brain told her that Kaok was right in front of her, but another equally powerful section was pointing in a different direction.
Hrothbert had gone very quiet. Although human, his use of sorcery allowed him a fraction of the foresight Emma had.
And even that fraction was crying out a warning.

Chris watched in stunned silence. "I..I...Don't understand...What does that have to do with anything...Explain please."
"This can't be a nightmare..This can't be a nightmare..It's real.."
