He might have been forgiven, but it didn't really matter. Kai was still upset, or hurt, by his reaction.. Even if he didn't say so, Ruki knew he was hurt, just as Kai knew Ruki was upset. They'd known each other long enough to realize the moods of each other as well as they knew their own selves. Which made it hard -if not impossible- to keep the secrets they had. And currently, Ruki had a big secret...
A flock of birds went screaming overhead, brightly colored feathers flashing. Ruki considered them with a tilt of his head. It gave him something else to watch rather then the water and Kai, as he tried to make amends.
"How do you feel about free-style chicken?" He murmured as he considered the group. "Since sushi isn't your thing... I could probably catch a bird..."
He'd never attempted to catch a bird, particularly not a bird he was then going to eat afterward. The fishing took care of whoever else arrived, but Kai really wasn't one for fish... And it was the drummer he was trying to feed for the moment.
"Maybe we can figure something out before the others come back..."

They both really did know each other as well as they knew themselves. And Kai knew he'd said or done something to upset Ruki, and the drummer was determine to figure out what.
Even as the loud birds flew overhead, Kai stared off into the distance, his mind still mulling over every word he'd said. He barely even heard Ruki inquire about the birds for him, and Kai made a face. "I think I'll be okay with the fish, thanks Taka-chan," he murmured, pausing. His face suddenly alit with a new emotion, an epiphany had hit him.
Ruki had been upset when Kai had mentioned himself and Reita, offering cuddles. "Ruki..." he murmured carefully, his dark gaze shifting to the vocalist. "You're protective of Reita, overly so. You like him?" It was, after all, the only thing that made even remotely any sense.

Ruki frowned up at the wheeling, cawing, multi-colored flock, considering his options. He certainly wasn't good enough at hunting to catch something that was able to fly to escape. Rushing the mad group might work, but only if he could get a jump on the damned things... Still, the odds were not in his favor, not at all.
"Hmm?" He murmured, turning back from the birds and directing his attention to Kai at the uttering of his name.
The careful tone had one of his ears pinning, head tilting slightly as he watched the drummer with a rather suspicious air. Kai usually started out treading carefully when he was about to drop a bomb, then he would leap to pouting or put on his 'Leader Voice'.. Whichever one would ensure that they would obey. And they usually did, as Kai was damn frightening as 'Leader', and damn undeniable when he was pouting. Either way, they were stuck.
The current statement was not boding well for- damn. Ears flew forward, then pinned back, paws shifting in the water as he considered how to respond to the question. Overly protective? Not... really. Reita was more then capable of taking care of himself, whether it was in a physical altercation or just the playful teasing... And Ruki was careful not to spring to his defense too often, so he didn't insult that oh-so-important badass image. Not that he wasn't ready to stand up for his longtime friend, because there were occasions he did step in whether he wanted or not. Sometimes he just couldn't help it.
"Of course I like him, Kai-kun... I couldn't be in a band with someone I hate." He replied smoothly before even realizing the words had come. "And I have kept him around ever since we were young... That is enough to prove me fond of anyone, wouldn't you think?"

Kai watched Ruki's reaction, taking in the ear movement and his shifting from paw to paw. But then... an excuse. It made the drummer frown, mulling over his explanation.
"I suppose..." he mumbled to Ruki's question. Damnit, he thought he'd figured it out! "Guess not..." Kai murmured more to himself than anyone else. And once again, he became lost in his thoughts, continuing his quest to figuring out what the hell he'd said wrong. This was going to be a loooong process, especially seeing as he'd figured it out, but gullibly accepted Ruki's smooth lie. Sometimes Kai could be scarily perceptive. Other times... not so much. And it seemed he was the latter for the time being.
