9 was okay. I felt the plot moved a little too fast. There were no real breaks.

It was a lame version of a cracked out version of Lord of the Rings but like it was on speed. Even the action scenes were really fast paced and some unnesscary
PostPosted: Sun Mar 07, 2010 3:49 pm

I actually just got back from watching it in 3D and I thought it wasn't bad.
Are you one of those people that watches a 3D movie for the cheesy scenes where they obviously have something coming out of the screen towards you just to show the 3D-ness, Orligirl?
Because frankly, I find those scenes annoying.
The 3D immersed me into the film more in a way, but that may just have been because I was sitting very close to the screen and watching it in IMAX so while watching the movie I could see little else even in peripheral.
(My favorite part with the 3D effect was there were just some leaves falling but it was great because it looked like I could have just reached out and touched the leaves.)

I also had very low expectations too but it was better than I thought.
As a sequel it was good.
The only things that were weird I thought of because I was comparing to the book.
Also, the Jabberwocky was in that and that was off because the Jabberwockey is not in Alice in Wonderland at all.

I was very pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it.

Also, I love Crispin Glover.
I thought he was great in it.
I kept having little fangirl moments when he came on.
(I gotta watch more of his movies.)

Huh.
Judging by these posts it might be worth it too check
this movie out in theaters then.

Also
Fangirl Squeee at Crispin Glover!
I can't wait to see how he is in it

Yeah, I'd definitely check it out at the very least.
(Though 3D and IMAX aren't necessary.)

Crispin Glover we good.
He looked kind of weird because they must have messed with his proportions to make him look more card-like because he's the Red Queen's right hand man.
He was tall with really long limbs and his body was wider and a bit flatter.
But I still liked him.
(More than Johnny Depp.)

I propobly wont go see it in 3-D unless my friends insist on it.
(Which I know they most likely will)

He's the knave of hearts isn't he?

I've been crazy excited to see him in it since I first saw the cast list.

Him and:
Matt Lucas
Stephen Fry
Helena Bonham Carter
Alan Rickman
Timothy Spall
Also Anne Hathaway somewhat, since in the few movies I've seen her in she has been somewhat likable.

So many actors I'm fond of in this movie :]

In all honesty Johnny Depp is in no way responsible for any excitement
I feel for the film.
He's actualy one of the main reason I've been slightly sceptical about the film.
Since what I've seen of the Mad Hatter in commercial annoys the hell out of me.

Is he any good in it?
PostPosted: Mon Mar 08, 2010 1:03 am

My friend was paying for my ticket so when she suggested 3D and IMAX I was cool with it. xD

He is the knave of hearts.
He has an actual name other than "The Knave of Hearts" but it's only used like once in the movie and it's the Red Queen blurting it out to call him to her throne so I don't recall it.
(It started with an "s")
But the cast was great.
And Anne Hathaway is a good White Queen if you're iffy about her at all.
I was curious about the Alice since I didn't recognize her from anything I knew but she was a good Alice as well.

I was worried about Johnny Depp too but after watching it, don't worry so much.
The commercials just made it look like it was all about him, it really isn't.
(Because that was one of my main worries.)
Though after Alice he is a very large character.
He's good as the Hatter but it's a type of character he seems to play a lot, kind of awkward, strange, and quirky, so if you don't like him doing that then you won't like him as the Hatter.

Was IMAX version really good? (recommended?)
Like for Avatar everyone's saying you HAVE to see it in Imax. ^^"
PostPosted: Mon Mar 08, 2010 1:53 pm

Huh
I saw Avatar in 3D but not IMAX.

The IMAX version was really good.
But I'd never say IMAX is necessary.
HD is nice but I've never been an "HD-snob", as in everything has to be hi-def or it sucks.
IMAX is nice but never necessary in my mind.
I could appreciate Alice in Wonderland in normal 3D just as much.
So it may not be a good idea asking me if you need to see it in IMAX. sweatdrop

As a fanatic over plot as I am, for the capture of plot in the movie it was a little weak, and normally Tim Burton's movies are good like 9, Corpse's Bride, and Night Before Christmas etc. I'm a slight disappointed at the movie (its probably just me...), even the little things like Magee's Alice make the movie look "silly", and Magee's Alice turns Alice in Wonderland completely around-not even normal (though interesting). But I guess it was more on the side to attract the kid groups of the current, and possibly future generation.

I-I'm sorry, what?
Not to nitpick but I'd like to point this out because we already covered the subject in this thread.
Tim Burton had very little to do with 9.
He only produced it.
From what I've read, he had little to nothing to do with the artistic aspects or the story.

I don't know if you're a huge Tim Burton fan but if you're going to say Alice in Wonderland was weak then say how good 9 was, though you did say Corpse Bride and Nightmare Before Christmas alongside it, know your stuff.
(Or maybe I'm just cranky because I just woke up and am very confused about the nature of how long I slept but that's a different story.)
Still know your stuff before you compare it.

I fail to see what you mean by comparing this Alice in Wonderland to Magee's Alice though.
Magee's Alice is batshit.
Are you saying you wish Tim Burton had completely turned this movie around like Magee does?
Because I'm honestly glad that he went into a more whimsical direction rather than a real dark, creepy direction.
Dark, creepy, and Alice seem to be becoming part of a really annoying cliche as of late.

So you're saying that he's using this movie to draw in kids of future generations?
Because he could have easily turned this into a more adult movie, so I can kind of see where you're going with this.
But it doesn't feel like one of those marketing ploys to draw in children of future generations, like when action stars star in kid's movies.
(Though I may just be naive because I'd like to believe that Tim Burton made the movie to show his vision of Alice.)

First of I would like to apolagice in advance if this makes no sence,
and if I'm completely miss-reading somethings in the previous posts, since quite frankly I just woke up, I'm pretty sure I only fell asleep 2 hours ago and I don't need to get up for like 3 hourse but I cant fall asleep again which means I'm bit cranky and slightly out of it and confused.
So sorry if none of this makes any sence

I agree with the above post.

Serioulsy.
Time Burton is not responsible for 9.
Honestly, I feel sorry for that poor guy who actualy wrote and directed it.
He never gets any credit because wveryone keeps handing it to Burton.
(also feel slightly sorry for Burton since honestly the pacing of that movie was rather bad)

And again, I fail too see how people actualy familiar with his work
could even think that 9 is in his style.
It just isnt.

And yes.
Thank god Burton's Alice is more whimsical and dark.
I'm getting the tiniest bit tired of the 'dark creepy gothic' thing that everyone keeps nailing on that story these days.
Honestly, it's a childrens book.
And it is whimsical.
So nothing wrong with it being portrait as such for once.

Also on the whole "Using it too draw in kids of future generations"
by making it more whimsical then dark?

That's just Burton doing his thing man.

Also, Alice in Wonderland is kind of a children book.
Making it so that kids can enjoy it?
Does not seem like an stretch to me.
Also in general,
Burton is far more whimsical then dark.
Even the Nightmare Before Christmas is all it's bleak colours
isn't really dark.
Yes he does do the whole 'dark' thing too,
but it's a 50/50 thing,
Some movies go into the more dark direction,
some movies stay all wierdish and peppy.
(although quite frankly even his more 'dark' films all have that quircky thing going on that keeps it from being all that dark)

Vincent
Frankenweenie
Pee-wee's Big Adventure
Beetlejuice
Batman
Edward Scissorhands
Batman Returns
Ed Wood
Mars Attacks!
Sleepy Hollow
Planet of the Apes
Big Fish
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Corpse Bride
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
Alice in Wonderland
The Nightmare Before Christmas

Movies in Bold are 100% child apropiate
(I honestly think the Batman movies and Mars Attack are as well but I'm judging these by my aunts overprotective-standards)
So honestly,
making it child-friendly is not unusual.

If it hadnt been child friendly I would propobly have been very shocked actualy.

(Also, why whenever people mention Burton movies as an example why is it always The Nightmare Before Christmas or Corpse Bride? And if it's not that people ussualy go for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Sweeney Todd.
No I'm serious. It's a wierd pattern, I do this sometimes too.I wonder why people almost never use his other films as an example.)

Aaaaaand I'm rambling and will propobly read this later today when I return from school actualy awake and be all "whaaat the hell was I wrting" and delete it since I rarely make any sence when I've recently woken up.
Propobly sound overly bitchy too.

No, you're making sense klikk.
You know much more about Tim Burton than I do, I just know the major movies he did and enough to trip up blind Burton fans.
So you were able to go more in depth.
Make the point much clearer.

Also, you reminded me I freaking love Big Fish and wish I owned it.

Bleh. You just reminded me of a toy line that pisses me off. McFarlane.

They have "Dark Oz" and "Dark X-mas." Those probably aren't the real names, but whenever I look at the things I gain rage and nausea.

I don't think it's the "lol gais look how kewl dark and/or sxy vrsions of things r" (they're mostly stupid in my opinion) that cause the sickly rage, though. I think it's because I had to look for a gift in Hot Topic while I was feeling ill once (turned out I had strep throat). The Jack Frost and Santa figurines were in the area I had to look in, and there were leather belts nearby that let off a weird smell. It did not help my condition. They're linked to a bad memory.

Anyway, my point is that dark/creepy versions of things tend to bother me, also.

I'm not super bothered when they flip something around, like Alice in Wonderland or any other fantasy tale I've heard growing up. I like to think of it as a way of seeing it in another light. What really aggravates me is that they just repaint something, give it a little gloss, and then do little or nothing to it. If ya wanna redo a classic tale, fine. Just don't tell me the same story the exact same way, cept maybe the girl's goth instead of covered in white.

But personally, I prefer them to do something completely different, like tell the untold story of one of the characters (As in my fave book, Wicked, the Untold Story of the Wicked Witch of the West.) Even that little movie based on the old Red Riding Hood story was good. (It's called Hoodwinked.) It had all the original characters, but it showed us what was really going on with Red, the Wolf, Granny, and the Huntsman.

I don't like the fact that they're making a sequel to it, though. That may be milking it a bit. sweatdrop

Ew, that sounds like it'd piss me off as well.
But that does seem to be more related to a memory than an actual raging at the product.
Though I still think the product would annoy me.
(Hot Topic can be nauseating at times though, I must agree.)

Dark and creepy doesn't even seem to be creative anymore, you keep seeing the same dark creepy concepts regurgitated.

Black:
Really?
I actually enjoy seeing fairy tales spruced up a bit without changing the story.
But that does annoy me when they essentially tell the same story dressed in black and leather though.

I still gotta read Wicked.
I really want to see the play though.
I didn't really enjoy Hoodwinked but I do agree that I like the concept of telling the other sides of the story.

Oh, it's already been announced they're making a sequel?
Speaking of sequels reminded me of something I heard someone say which I find myself agreeing with.
Someone said it's more a sequel to the Disney movie rather than the books and I can't help but agree to a degree.
