"Oh that will be fun. I will work hard and then we will fly! But first we must introduce ourselves mine is telling me. So I must go." Skananth warbled a goodbye to the other blue and his.

"I'll be sure to do that, thank you." F'len assured his friend. "I've never met the weyrleader but I've heard good things about him. See you later then." Folen leaned in for one more quick hug before turning to go.

As promised F'len and Skananth made their way to the weyrleader and bowed before him. Skananth was terribly pleased that he managed to keep from tipping over this time. He became so excited about his accomplishment that he nearly whacked someone behind him with his tail in his exuberance.

She watched the two of them go, her attention returning to the hall at large. The teal gaze landed on Jadamirei, talking to someone else. They returned to the main table just in time to see Skananth's tail almost take out the kneecap of the person behind him.

She hid her smile in her cup.

She moved into her barracks, mind almost exhausted from the Hatching. Much of the Weyr would be at the Hatching feast; only a few Candidates were expected to work the Feast. As she didn't have to be there until later as she didn't have to work it at all; once Verianne was in her room she allowed herself to collapse onto the bed in exhaustion.

She slept for the hour between the end of the Hatching and the beginning of the Feast; she slept for much of the first hour of the Feast. When she finally woke, she dug through her wardrobe. It had been pretty substantial, what she had left behind; finally she dug out something cute enough to work.

When she stepped into the Feast, the party was already full-swing. Well, as full-swing as Weyr parties got. Dragonets seemed to be everywhere. She moved to be a wallflower; it was how she was comfortable. From her spot on the wall, she watched the others moving around thoughtfully

What are we doing now, mine? Betteth asked curiously, as they followed the group down to the dining hall.

"It's my turn to eat," he answered. "You guys hatched early enough that we didn't get breakfast."

Why didn't you eat with me then, if you're so hungry?

Il'raz laughed. "That wasn't for me, it was for you."

Okay, she responded. Hey, look, there's Vespereth! Let's go see her mine. She darted off towards her sister, and Il'raz followed after her. Vespereth! Vespereth! Is yours hungry too?

He grinned at the girl, realizing that he wasn't going to get away until Betteth was done socializing. It was surprising that he didn't really know the girl well, but as one of the other weyrbrats, he did recognize her. "So, Cass, glad you impressed?"

As they entered the dining hall, Cass paid her respects to both of the Weyrleaders, but hurried herself a long. Malkai did not look pleased, and she rather thought it must have something to do with Morgath being a bronze instead of a gold. But still, he was a big, fine bronze, she should be proud, not angry! These things did happen, after all.

'why would they be unhappy about Morgath, mine? Morgath is so big and nice!' Vespereth said, wiggling a little bit in her happiness as she looked around at all the people and new dragonets there in the dining hall while her rider filled her plate.

'well, I believe it was because they were expecting his egg to hold a gold...they're just...surprised.' Cass said, trying to reassure her dragonet that one of her favorite sibs wasn't a disappointment. 'They'll get used to it, don't worry.' she said with a smile as she turned from the serving tables and found herself a seat at the table for the new riders(far away from yulu) and settled herself down, more than ready to focus on her plate of food.

Vespereth settled down daintily beside her rider, peeping over the edge of the tablet at all the things spread out on it 'Mine, what's that?' she asked curiously, eyeing the plate of food 'It smells soooo nice!'

"That's my food, dear heart, and as much as I love you, you're not getting any. You already had yours." Cass remarked as she poured herself a cup of Klah.

'And what's that?' she asked, turning curious blue green eyes to the steaming cup.

"That's Klah, it helps me wake up and warms me up!" she said cheerfully as she took a long, satisfying drink of the fluid in question.

'Oooh, I see.' Vespereth said with a sagely nod. Before she could ask more questions, though she turned as she heardd her named called. 'Betteth!' she said cheerfully, jumping up to meet her spotted sister 'Yes! Mine is very hungry and is eating food and Klah! Doesn't the food smell nice? Is yours hungry? Is he eating nice food too?' she asked, craning her lithe neck around to look at the boy approaching hers.

Cass looked up as someone spoke to her, and smiled one of her bright smiles, seeming even happier than usual. She didn't know this boy well, only in passing really as they had shared classes and he was another weyrbrat, like herself, but he had seemed nice enough.
"Hello Iloraz...or...is it Il'raz now? I suppose?" she asked, looking at him for confirmation that she had shortened his name correctly.
"As for whether or not I'm happy to have impressed, surely my smile tells all. I can hardly stop!" she said with a little laugh as she took a sip of Klah "How about you? I'm sure you are happy, how could one not be?" she asked with a blissful smile. "What was your dragons name? Betteth, I think Vespereth said? She's lovely."
"Have you eaten yet though? You must be at least as starved as me." Cass remarked when she saw the boy had no plate of food of his own.

After paying his respects to the weyrleaders Folen sought out a plate of food for his was famished. Skananth waited patiently at his side as he tried some of the many offerings available. The young blue wrinkled his nose curiously at the mixture of scents the foods presented.

Edited on:

A familiar voice caught Skananth's attention and he looked to see Vespereth's chatting with Betteth's. Giving his a gentle nudge in the right direction the young blue decided to join his siblings. Well...it was meant to be a gentle nudge any way. But Skananth sent an apologetic thought to his rider as the boy was pushed forward nearly into the tables and had to dance around holding his plate precariously as he tried not to crash into anything or lose his food.

F'len laughed as he found his balance and gave the dragon a pat. "No worries. Just try to use less force next time. Come on, your sisters are waiting for us I think." He motioned toward the waiting greens.

"Hello there, F'len nodded a greeting to Cass and Iloraz as he joined them." Do you mind if I join you?"

Cass looked up as another voice addressed her, and smiled at the other former candidate "Go ahead." she said, waving an arm at the empty seat beside her, laughing a bit as Vespereth huffed in annoyance at all the commotion her brother was causing.

'Skananth, why are you so clumsy?!' She asked
'You'll make yours spill his food!' She butted him playfully with her small head though, to let him know she wasn't really annoyed. After all, she loved all of her clutchsibs, and Skananth was one of the less annoying males. He wasn't bossy like Akerth, and he didn't pick on her like Pipith, and he didn't run around and ravage people like Cavumuth, so he was pretty high in her books, even if he was a clutz

Cass turned from the pair and smiled at F'lin "I don't think we were ever properly introduced." she said "I'm Cass, rider of green Vespereth." she said with a hint of pride in her voice as she said her new official title for the first time.

Skananth tilted his head almost bird like as he seriously considered Vespereth's question. 'I do not know why my doing of things should be different than how anyone else moves. I just try to do something and it is harder than I thought it would be, so things get out of hand. But I will keep trying and trying until I get better.' he replied slowly not at all perturbed. "At least mine is good at helping or getting out of the way."

"Good to meet you Cass, your Vespereth is lovely. I am F'len. It's going to take me a while to get used to shortening my name like that. And this," He said motioning to his side where the large blue sat, "is Skananth. I think I've seen you around doing chores and the like, but we've never had a chance to talk before."

'Well, yours will get very good at dodging, i am sure.' Vespereth said, amused as she flipped her wings neatly along her back, apparently not having the same issues of coordination that her clutchsib was.

"Thank you, she is such a little darling." Cass remarked, briefly turning her eyes towards her lifemate, eyes shining with the love she felt for hers, her heart nearly skipping a beat everytime she turned to look at the little green and realizing that her dreams had come true, she had found her other half. So few in life could say the same that she felt truly blessed.
Cass turned her gaze back to F'len and laughed a little "I'm sure it will be strange at first, but soon it will be as though you've never been called anything else. I have to admit, I'm glad I don't have to be the same." she mused as she turned her gaze to the little blue sitting quietly by her green "Skannanth is a very handsome fellow." she said with a grin up at his rider "And yes, I believe I've seen you around too, outside of classes I mean." she said "Here, go ahead and have a seat so you can actually eat that food." she said teasingly, hooking one dainty foot under a chair and pulling it towards her so that he could sit by her. She had removed her white candidates robes before she had come into the hall, what with them being covered and blood, and torn, it had hardly seemed decent. Luckily she had had the presence of mind to pull on a green skirt that went to her knees, and a white top with a cream tunic. A simple outfit, but the colors went well with her fair skin and blond hair, drawing attention to her slender legs as she crossed them under the table.

Mine is hungry, but he doesn't have any food yet, and it does smell good, and maybe he will give me a bite. Betteth rambled in response to her sisters questions.

"It's Il'raz now," he confirmed, pleased that she had gotten it the first time. "I liked it the best out of all of my options."

Now that he was talking to her, he could hear the happiness in her voice, and he wondered if he sounded just as joyous. "Yes, her name is Betteth. The whole clutch turned out well, don't you think."

He grinned at F'len as he came over and joined them, and then finished answering Cass. "Not yet. Betteth dragged me over here before I had a chance to grab a plate. Now that she's distracted for the moment though, I'll be right back."

He darted off quickly, snagging a plate and filling it with food. Right now, he could care less what was on it, he was just hungry. He returned to the table where the two were sitting, and took a seat across from them.

"Your name must have been easy to shorten," he commented. "Or at least, you probably had less options than some of us."

'Mine won't share any of hers.' Vespereth said in an aggrieved tone to her sister 'Maybe when she's not so hungry, she'll share.' the little green said hopefully.

Cass nodded in agreement with the boy as she took a bite of food to ease her empty belly "Yes, the dragonets all turned out quite lovely, and with a minimum of violence. That has to be a good sign." the blond pointed out to the younger boy as he sat down across from her.
Cass took a moment to take a few bites of her late breakfast, and drink some Klah. Just as she was tearing into a piece of bread, she paused and stared at it, then resumed her chewing, but slower than before. When she had swallowed she looked at the piece of bread a moment longer, she looked up at her fellow weyrlings, a smile slowly spreading across her face and said "You know, I just realized...I'll never have to work in the kitchens again."

Vespereth overheard her rider's comment and looked at her, craning her neck around to look over her wing to do so 'Of course not, Mine! A kitchen is no place for you, you will be with me! And together we will ride the skies together!' There was a smile in her tone as she spoke to her rider, eyes a bright, happy blue green as she did so. Turning back to Betteth, she said 'People are sooo silly sometimes. Of course mine won't be working in some silly kitchen!...whatever that is...'

Shiver had rejoined Tofir after the hatching, leaving Song and the strange man gladly. He liked Song, but strangers made him nervous. He'd practically shaken off half his body weight. He was hungry. Was there any cooked meat to be had? He whistled appealingly at Tofir. Could he ask the Yulu friend for some food.

Tofir shrugged and he interpreted that as a yes. Shiv began to fly to Yulu, willing to land on her, even, when he saw the enormous green with her and let out a shrill, terrified whistle and returned to Tofir's shoulder at great speed. Tofir raised his left eyebrow at the blue firelizard and looked back at Yulu.

"Hey. Can I sit?" With a dragon in the way, that wasn't quite a guarantee. "I don't think I caught your dragon's name, by the way."
"You're welcome to do as you please, it's an open feast and you're better company than half the lot in here."

Y'ul swallowed the food in her mouth as she waitied for the man to move, though she was actually a little surprised over Shvier having come and landed on her. It was a token of good faith from him, or so she thought, and she would have been pleased with it all had he not screamed in her ear at the sight of Erath. The Green turned to look at Hers with a disintered huff, her head finally lowering back down to her feet. No one was in danger, so she didn't care.

"Good to see Shiver's doing well, but we gotta do something about how he acts around Erath. Faranth, that makes me wonder how Song will handle her."

I foresee no problems, should she leave me alone and I her. You will find I am easy to deal with.

"Yeah, sure."

That was a good question, to be honest. Sethal, for his part, didn't actually have one in mind - well, okay, he had a lot of question running through his mind, but he didn't know where to start! He'd never been so lost in his life, and it was beyond disconcerting. He wasn't ordinarily the uncertain type...indecisive yes, uncertain no.

Ask him something already, Mine, Pipith prodded when he hesitated a little too long.

"Well, uh..." Oh, shards! "What happens now?" So it was sort of a stupid question, but it was better than nothing. Hopefully the man was as nice as he seemed and wouldn't laugh at him.

J'ev's smile simply widened, seemingly unbothered by Sethal's question. "Well, ye've seen to yer dragon, so ye should best have some breakfast. Then we'll get ye all settled in the Weyrling Barracks. There won't be any lessons today, so ye can get used to havin' a dragon around. Ye'll spend the rest of the day relaxin' and just enjoyin' each other's company." He glanced around at the other riders who were busy socializing amongst themselves. This would definitely be a better clutch than the last. They would have a collection of good, solid riders. He could see it now. But back to Sethal. The boy needed a quick make-up lesson on dragon care.

"Here, let's have a seat. I'll try to catch ye up on all that ye've missed." The old Weyrlingmaster gestured towards the nearest bench, indicating that Sethal should join him at the table. Once seated, he paused only long enough to get himself a cup of klah before he continued.

"Now, this lad here is just a baby, so he's as dependant on ye as any baby animal is, only he's much more intelligent. Yer bonded, which means ye share thoughts, emotions, and just about everythin' in between until ye get used to decidin' which stuff to share and which to keep to yerself. Sometimes ye'll feel an emotion so strongly ye think it's yers, but it's really his just projectin' onto ye. That's okay, ye'll learn to live with it. We'll have lessons every day, so don't worry too much. Ye won't be that far behind the rest of the lads. If ye've got any specific questions, ye can ask them now, otherwise I'll just leave ye to yer breakfast."

At least Shiv had the decency to feel abashed at his outburst. Tofir encouraged the blue to project this semi-apologetic feelings to Yulu, and after some very quick negotiating Shiv whistled softly, an apologetic sound. Meanwhile, Tofir maneuvered around the green dragon and plunked himself down beside Yulu on the bench.

"You make me feel so welcome," he said with a quick grin. Shiver crawled back onto his shoulder and hid there, conveying that he was not pleased at all to learn that the Yulu person had acquired a dragon.

He ducked so that he could look at the green who was so upsetting his firelizard. She didn't seem particularly inclined toward unfriendliness. Introducing himself, since Yulu didn't seem inclined to do so, he said, "I'm Tofir. The blue you're terrifying just by existing is Shiver."

"I don't think you have to worry about Song. She's nowhere near as neurotic as Shiv is. You know that. Are you going to introduce me to your dragon ever, by the way, or tell me if you've taken an honorific?"
PostPosted: Tue Feb 16, 2010 7:11 pm

Sethal did as he was bidden and sat, paying close attention - no, really! - to the Weyrlingmaster's words. Of course, this did mean he barely even noticed that Pipith was having a slight disagreement with one of his green clutchmates, but hey, he'd already shown quite clearly that he could take care of himself. He'd be fine.

J'ev's way of speaking was rather comforting, and his explanations reassuring. It seemed like they'd be taking things more or less one day at a time, and that was fine by Sethal.

As for specific questions, well...he could only think of one in particular at the moment, something he and his dragon were having a bit of a disagreement about. "I know I'm supposed to shorten my name, but um...how short does it have to be?"

"My name's Sethal," he added before explaining with a slight chuckle, "And Pipith says Set'al doesn't really count."

The dragon didn't like the shortening of his name? J'ev laughed and slapped his thigh with a hand. "Well now, that dragon knows what he wants! As far as shortenin', it can be as short or as long as yer dragon can remember. That's where it comes from, the shortenin', 'cause the dragons need something small so they don't ferget. Set'al is good enough, but it looks like yer dragon doesn't like it much! Ye could go shorter to S'et, or keep the last bit of yer name and make it S'al. Ye can ask him what name he likes, or if he has any suggestions. Maybe he wants a particular name. Some dragons are more fussy than others. But it's up to ye in the end."
