The blue creeled and flailed, desperately trying to roll himself over so he could stand. His size seemed to be proving to be quite the challenge, however. Wings, tail, and limbs all got in his way and it took him several tries before he finally got himself up into a sitting position. Even then, his trials were not over. One wing was still caught underneath his hind leg and he turned to give it a dark look.
Momentarily distracted from his earlier pursuits, his eyes became slightly tinged with yellow as he gave his wing several more tugs but to no avail. He just couldn't get it loose! The blue turned his whirling eyes on the crowd of boys, before they landed on his slightly flushed rider. He had embarrassed his? Oh but he hadn't meant to!
FolenMine I am sorry! I did not mean to knock you over! A teal-y blue dominated the dragonet's eyes as he gazed fondly at His. Could you help your Skananth, please? I cannot seem to get up...

Lelia bounced a little on her heels. Oh, oh! Had the blue impressed, by the way he was looking at that boy, it certainly seemed like it. How lovely! Such a handsome, dark boy, and so large! Lelia watched him fondly. Would she impress a dragon as beautiful as he?
That thought brought her eyes back to the eggs. Beautiful blue or not, he was not for her; but there were other eggs left, she still had a chance. She kept an eye on the bronze marching around, hoping he wouldn't cause any more trouble and would find his quickly, as well as the remaining eggs. Which one would hatch next? Which color would it contain? She didn't know, couldn't know, but was very eager to find out.

Yulu knew that look the dragonet was giving one of the small boys, even if she really didn't know what it was. At the very least she knew that the dragon was not her and would never look her way, and almost at once a feeling of relief and sadness washed over her hand in hand. She found she had been holding her breath just ever so slightly while waiting for something to happen, though she exhaled quickly and forced her gaze to look towards the Bronze. There was no point in getting distracted right now, that as dangerous and she needed to stay alert.
Still, what a beautiful blue. Yulu would admit to the pang of envy she felt towards someone taking the first Impression, but if her memory served she could recall touching that egg had lead her to an idea it was one of the more social ones. That wasn't right for her, not just yet, so she would have to watch and wait. The Bronze was still moving and there were seven eggs still on the sands, her chance could come soon.

Not Hers, she could see how it was looking at that boy. She didn't want to begrudge him finding his lifemate, of course she didn't, but she was so desperate to be chosen herself that a pang of pain and a tinge of jealousy ran through her. Where was Hers? Would she be chosen?... Calm. Only two had hatched so far, there were seven still there that might want her... Well, six realistically; the spicy red had to be brown or bronze, and neither of the larger males would be interested in her. Six others. She might be lucky. She might.
Swallowing a lump in her throat, Layla turned her eyes back onto the unhatched eggs. Please. Let Hers be there. Let it find her. Please. She'd do anything. She'd try so much harder not to be afraid of everything, or at least she'd try to face her fears. Maybe she'd be able to stand strong with a lifemate by her side. Maybe. Oh please, let her dragon hatch. Please. let it come to her. Please. She couldn't bear the thought of walking away alone.

Blinking over at the large blue Folen found himself moving to help the dragonet before he even realized he was moving. "You certainly have gotten yourself into a muddle. But don't worry," Bending down Folen carefully shifted the tangled limbs. "none of the candidates were harmed at all. and we'll soon have you righted. There that must feel better."
"It does! Oh thank you folenmine thank you." Freed from his entrapment the blue bounced up nearly knocking his rider over once more.
Foalen was ready this time however and managed to compensate for the sudden chest rubbing he received. "Come on you lets get you fed and clear the sands for your siblings."
"Food! Yes. You are ever so clever. I think I would like food right now." Skananth swung his head around looking for the food tables nearly taking out several candidates as he did so.
"Gently does it Skananth. Now follow me." Folen admonished leading the blue over to where the meat was being offered.

While the blue was busy finding himself a lifetime companion, another egg twitched. It was a slight movement made so quickly that had anyone not been looking, they would not have noticed the Grey Speckled Egg.
It quickly ceased after this, and for a moment, there was nothing but stillness in the clutch. Then, without warning, the egg gave a heavy lurch. It flipped over from one side to the other, now facing the clutch instead of pointing away from it. In a shatter of shells, a hole was punched through and a dark, back foot with white tipped claws poked out of the shell.
The color was yet hard to tell. Another blue? A very small, dark brown? Maybe it was a green.
As if in response to this, the Pink Charcoal Egg began to sway too and fro. It rocked heavily for quite some time, before cracks began to appear and a green head poked itself out of the shell tentatively. She rolled away from the blue-colored egg near her and then pulled herself out quickly, stumbling over herself only once before heading with a trotting gate to the girls.
From the Grey Speckled Egg there was no further response. It simply stayed still, the foot still partially out of the shell.

Beaming a smile at Folen, he clapped the Impressed on the back, murmuring a soft congrats that probably went unheard, by the awe-struck look on Folen's face. The new blue was beautiful, and as obsorbed in his rider as Folen was in his new dragon.
His smile bright, Kylar turned back to the waiting eggs.

Kaatan watched as the boy Impressed the blue, grinning wildly at the events unfolding on the sands below. It was reassuring, to see a successful Hatching this time. And I'm sure everyone's heart just sank very, very slightly. They're happy for him, but that's one less dragon that could be theirs.
There was more movement from the eggs, too, and Kaatan grew nervous when the Grey Speckled Egg stopped moving. Please hatch safely!!

As Folen stepped from the crowd of boys, his eyes on the blue hatchling, Jadamirei positively beamed with happiness for her dearest friend. She watched the two move until they were at the meat tables, envious and hopeful all at once. Ah, would she be so lucky?
As for Verianne, she grinned. She didn't know Folen all that well beyond the fact that the boy had approached her to help with some tailoring class or another he ran; he certainly wouldn't have time to continue those classes now!

Okay, good. Yulu had been right about the look the two were sharing, her suspicions confirmed when a Candidate started talking to the Blue using a name, even moving to help him get up and go towards the tables of food. She was daring herself to keep a watch on them when the sounds of shells cracking pulled her eyes away from the Bronze and the Blue and towards the eggs, her gaze darting quickly to find the source.
There - the Grey egg had a crack now and a foot as well, and that chatty pink egg from before had produced its dragon, a green. It started towards the girls with a happy gate, leaving Yulu to hope the best for Layla, and she bit her lip as she watched the motionless dragonet stay inside his shell. Thing was probably sleeping, what a slacker. She hoped it wasn't going to want her, she lacked the skills to properly motivate someone into doing something.

Feeling the touch to his shoulder F'len glanced back at Kylar giving the other candidate a wave before turning his attention back to the meandering blue afraid the ungainly fellow might trip over himself again.

The sudden lurch of the grey speckled egg caught Layla quite by surprise. When a little foot kicked out, she peered intently at it. What was it? She couldn't really see from here, it was dark but beyond that she had no idea at all... and it wasn't in a rush to show the rest of itself.
The pink charcoal was a different matter; when she turned her head back to the rest of the clutch she saw a little green head poke out, and grinned broadly at the sight. Before long, the dragon had managed to shake herself free... she was heading for the girls! Layla's heart beat picked up even further; could this be it? Could this be her lifemate?

Well, that was the first Impression over, one more hatched, and one part hatched. Was it a lazy dragon, or a weak one? Either way, not much good to whoever got it. Mind you, whoever got it probably wasn't much good either, he doubted that many of the people out there were. Still, any use or not he was fascinated by this whole process. It looked so different from up here, secure with your lifemate. He remembered the fear and insecurity of the sands when you were a candidate. Would you be hurt? Walk away alone? He never had to worry about that again, and that made him smile slightly. It was good to be a rider.

Now that it was official time, Iloraz was nervous. He bounced in place for a moment, watching as first the bronze hatched, though it was yet to find his partner, and then as the blue impressed Folen.
He was pleased about that, Folen deserved a dragon if anyone did, though he had thought that the other boy might have gotten something more than just a blue, but the dragons knew who was best for them. That was just how it was.
He briefly glanced at the green, but when she moved over towards the girls, his eyes flickered to the Grey Speckled Egg, with the foot poking out. It wasn't moving, not really. That certainly didn't look good. Hopefully it wasn't dead, but he knew that it was a possibility. "Please be okay," he whispered.

That was a rather painless Impression, the Blue and his rider now moving off without too much trouble, and L'pin watched amused as more eggs cracked. He was pleased to see such a cute green head towards the girls, he wanted a few of them to join the ranks anyway, though he had to frown at the lack of moment from the Grey egg other then kicking a foot free and relaxing. A dragonet like that would be bound for trouble if it stayed lazy, though he doubted such a thing would be allowed in Telgar. They'd make sure to work him until he broke.
Shamth, what do you think so far? Anyone catching your eyes?
No.
I thought so.
There was a teasing air about them as they waited for more to progress, eyes still on that first Bronze and on the happy Green.

Tofir was standing with the other healers, ready to assist as needed, and sincerely hoping it would prove unnecessary. He sought Yulu and some of his other friends among the candidates out from those on the sands. Finding Yulu was a bit of a challenge at first because she had been grouped with the boys, but one he found her he gave a cheeky wave and grinned, earning himself a glare from one of the journeyman healers on hand. Hatchings were serious business.
Tofir knew that. He was dying to take notes on the goings-on, but making do with simply trying to observe everything at once. Shiv was hiding under a pillow in the candidate dormitories, which suited him fine, but now he was sorely tempted to see if the blue could fetch him some note-taking materials. Particularly when the dark blue Impressed to a younger man. Oh! He wanted to record this! He'd have to see if the weyrling would agree to an interview later. _____
Jasrai had thought about it, and in light of the fact that her arm was killing her and she was tired and grouchy and in no mood to play nice with new weyrlings she had decided to stay in her weyr with Roseth and her firelizards.
