Valentines day was originally Saint Valentines day. A Christian Holiday to remember a Martyr, who was killed for marrying christian couples when it was illegal to do so under the rule of Claudius Gothicus. The holiday was originally celebrated by the church marrying any couple who came to them on the saints day with no questions asked. It later evolved into the act of people announcing to the world the name of the woman they loved and then giving her a flower, and if she accepted it they where to be wed. After hundreds of years and many changes, it has slowly morphed into what we celebrate today.
