Thanks. You should see the rest of the story. ^_^

Another fun little tidbit. This started as a "Story Behind the Avi" thing and then turned way too creepy to post. Still, I think I can get away with posting this part. It's my favorite. ^_^

He roughly grabbed her chin and forced her to look at him. He saw it then, the fire in her eyes, the stubborn set of her jaw. He slapped her face. The force of the blow nearly knocked her to one side and she blinked away the stars swimming behind her eyes.
“See how those ugly words hurt?” he asked her, his tone reasonable. “Better not to speak them—not to even think them.”
“Boy howdy, did you pick the wrong woman to shack up with,” Scarlet muttered and spat out blood. The force of his blow had cut her cheek on her teeth. “I might not be the masochist you're looking for, but pain is no threat to me.”
“There are many kinds of pain,” he cautioned.
“Bring it,” she snarled, glaring up at him.

It's really a lot of fun! There are so many challenges and the feeling you get when you look back over 50K of writing that YOU did--even if most of it is junk--is just TOO COOL!

That's just your inner editor trying to get you down. If you never try, you'll always wonder if you could have. If you try and fail, you'll do better the next year, because you will have learned about yourself and your style in ways that slowly building up a novel over months and years could never achieve. 4laugh

Wow, it's been a while. Anyway, I was just jotting ideas down for an RP concept that turned into my personal comic project, and here's something that came out and almost made me cry.

----------------------------------------------------------

But rest did not come. In her mind, Nixie was reliving one of the darkest days of her life. Austin had driven her home early from a cocktail party because she was nauseous. Sovenn had arrived by taxi hours later, so drunk he could hardly stand, and found them talking in the kitchen over a cup of tea. They both looked too happy to be innocent. Sovenn accused her of sleeping with the help, which she vehemently denied. He stormed up the stairs and she followed, still protesting her innocence. He spun around and hit her. She fell down nearly two flights of marble stairs. Austin caught her at the bottom. Austin dialed 911. Austin rode with her to the hospital. In the hospital, the doctor informed him that she had lost the baby in the fall.

that last sentence hit home the hardest, I think. overall, the images evoked are captivating and heartbreaking. such violence, such drama, such tragedy....

The only thing is that the small snippet only tells half of the story. Austin is the chauffeur and very professional. Even so, he's the closest thing Nixie has to a best friend she has. Nixie is a mythological creature that due to the terms of her marriage and the binding nature of her species could never be unfaithful. Sovenn has no such compulsion. He's just an abusive a** and a control freak.

aye, I gathered that about Sovenn... in context like that, it's even more chilling. sad I can see now why you cried -- not just because you wrote it so you feel deeper for it than I, but because it is not something one can contemplate or realy feel without being brought to tears.
