Song was getting quite upset along with being really happy the more and more affection Shiver was showering on her, and as soon as the Blue decided to lay on her Song decided that she'd had enough. It wasn't very nice that he was using her to get back at his person, Song had feelings of her own too, and she quickly moved out from under him with a hiss and a little snap of her jaws. There was only so far she was willing to be played with, and Shiver had just pushed the line. The golden flitt scampered up Yulu's arms and onto her shoulder where she planted her face against Yulu's cheek, clearly upset with how she was being treated!

Yulu had to chuckle at the antics of the pair, her attention having rested there, and she gave a soft rub over Song's head to reassure her that things were okay, her person wasn't going to be teasing her or using her. Shiver was probably only playing too, so Song would have to forgive him. It didn't have to be right this minute, but eventually.

"So basically she'd be the trophy wife and I'd be the brother-in-law who gets things done instead? Oh yes, that works out really well then. I just better get paid more for all the work I put in, not just the pat on the back and a generic good job phrase."

When Tofir changed to talk about aging out, Yulu actually stopped joking and listened as well. This was something that was important to both of them, thoughts of going back to the hall, so seriousness was almost expected. She'd forgotten her was older than her, several times actually.

"I keep forgetting you're older than me by two turns. Sometimes you just don't act like it."

Shiv whistled unhappily. What had he done? He looked at Tofir appealingly, seeking reassurance or direction. Song's reaction left him deeply confused, and so he just sat there, staring at his human and shivering. He had only been playing with his human. His human understood that, clearly. Why didn't Song? He was relieved when Tofir gestured for him to come back to his bed. It gave him something to do other than sit there and feel confused. And his human was thinking good, reassuring thoughts at him. Slowly his distressed eyes turned green again, but he didn't return to try his luck with Song.

"I'm sure I don't want to know the details," Tofir said, referring to the drama the firelizards were enacting. He got Shiv's part, and he could guess at Song's, but by and large he was just as glad not to know any specifics. Firelizard politics were probably very complex and beyond his understanding anyway.

"But, yeah, I suppose you could look at it like that. But I'm not marrying my assistant. That's trouble waiting to happen, and on a scale that dwarfs firelizard dramatics." He'd seen it happen a few times at the Hall. Sometimes it ended all right, but if the master in the relationship had a roving eye, no one was happy in the end.

"By the way, I would never dream of rewarding you with a pat on the back and a generic good job phrase. I'd come up with good job phrases that were absolutely unique for you. And you could be paid...twenty percent of whatever fees I earn. At my current rate, that means you'll be earning approximately no marks per hour." He smirked. "Much better than dragonriding, really."

Tofir rolled his eyes. "Sorry, young'un. Would you rather I went around all cerebral and mature? I can do that, you know. Maybe I should. It would lend me a certain amount of credibility with perspective patients. Like they're dealing with a real professional, instead of some guy who just happens to be perceptive and right most of the time."

"I'm not sure I want to know either, but she's huffed to the point where -"

Yulu's sentence was cut off the moment a firelizard blinked from between over her head, the Green she had sent off that morning having all but been forgotten from her mind. Hinalle gave a loud hiss at the other two flitts in the room as she glared them down, her little body shaking off the cold from her little flight.

"Hinalle! I'd forgotten I sent you off, rather glad you found me. I see you have a response, come 'ere."

Yulu motioned for Song to call the Green over, and the gold didn't have any problems using her sway to coax the other flitt within reach of Yulu, so the woman could get the message off her. It was tied roughly, as though whoever had attached it could care less if it got lost somehow, and Yulu bit her lower lip as she managed to get it off. The moment the letter was off Hinalle was gone, blinking back between as she most likely decided to head back towards her person L'pin. There was no love lost with her gone, and Yulu opened the note in her hands to read it.

. . . .leaving her face to promptly darken and her hands to ball the item she'd been waiting for all day into a little crumple. Her shoulders tensed up and her lips drew thin, her whole posture suggesting a sudden change of mood.

" . . . . "

Tofir could only watch and send consoling thoughts to his firelizard as a green 'lizard came in and terrorized him thoroughly with a hiss that clearly conveyed her attitude. He didn't recognize the flit, but since he was only aware of one other person Yulu spoke to regularly enough to be allowed to borrow a firelizard he guessed that she - Hinalle - must belong to L'pin. He'd never met that rider. There were a lot of riders he'd never met though. Telgar wasn't a small Weyr, and his research wasn't as helpful after the first three days following Impression because at that point he only had the humans' memories to rely on.

He was perishingly curious about what message the green had brought Yulu, though. Something about the plague, maybe? He thought he remembered her mentioning that she'd written to someone for more information about it. If that was the case, he was prepared to be worried. That sort of reaction didn't usually herald good news. But maybe it was something personal, in which case he probably shouldn't pry. Except that there were limits to how much curiosity could be denied.

"How bad is it?" he asked. No point asking what it was. It was bad, and that was sufficient. Besides, Yulu might actually be more forthcoming because he hadn't actually asked what was the matter.

"There's nothing written here about the plague, if that's what you're imply. Nothing on this paper that could be of any use to you at all."

Yulu opened it back up, as if she wanted to read it again, though instead she fiercely ripped it in half before repeating the process several more times, leaving the paper in several fine shreds. Any that dropped on the floor during her little rampage were quickly gathered and stuffed into the pocket of her pants, no evidence to be left behind for anyone to even see a single word of the scant few lines that had been scribbled in response to her request of help.

"But I need to go, now. Song's in a tissy mood as it is anyway and I've got things I need to do, places I need to be. I wouldn't be good company if I stayed around any longer than this, so you'll have to forgive me for stomping off and leaving mid-conversation."

'Forgive' wasn't a word Yulu used a lot in her conversations, but she wasn't going to change now what she had already said, instead quickly getting to her feet and heading towards the door. She wasn't going to go back to her own barrack, the feeling of trashing things too strong, instead she'd let herself outside to cool her temper. There was nothing she could hurt out there, only the air, and it was what she needed.

"I'll see you around."
