Pembroke smirked at Kala's expression. She was rather comical. But he had to agree, it was her fault he'd lost his lunch. He crouched down and waggled his behind in the air, flicking is tail from side to side.
"Your own food, eh? First you gotta catch something for me! Come on, I'll help you. But only because I'm nice...."
He leapt passed her and started running and sniffing at the ground trying to catch a scent. He stopped and looked back at Kala.
"....and because we're friends." He added with a wink.
He quickly smirked and flipped back around again searching for a scent.

Kala flipped her ears back and forth. "So... I haf'ta catch two things?" She asked as she padded after the male, smiling again when he reconfirmed their friendship status. Despite his offer to help, Kala didn't know how she would catch one meal, much less two whole ones!

Pembroke finally caught the scent of a juicy rabbit. His mouth watered and he took off at a sprint. He finally caught sight of the rabbit as he peered through the branches of a bush. He crouched down low, a kept both eyes locked on his target. Another little rabbit hopped up to the first one. They sniffed around. Pem froze, trying to also freeze his scent. But the two rabbits did not seem to notice his presence and they resumed nibbling the grass. Perfect....
He motioned to Kala.
"On my count, we both pounce. You go for the one on the left. Pin it down with your paws and bite into with your teeth as quickly as you can."
He spoke in barely a whisper and made motions as he did so. He hope she understood what to do.

Kala followed nervously, but determined to at least make up for the rabbit from before. If she could get at least one... Just one... Her ears pricked forward at the sight of the furry prey. Wasn't that what had attacked her earlier?! She tucked low to the ground, watching Pembroke carefully. Nodding, she crept a step closer to the rabbits, eyes caught on the indicated rabbit, her heart pounding partially in fear and partially in excitement. Did her mother actually do this??? Flicking her tail, she took a deep breath and leaped forward, catching the rabbit off guard and biting into its neck. She hardly dared breath as the rabbit hung in her grasp, green eyes shut tight as she waited for Pembroke to tell her how she'd done.

Pembroke gauged that Kala understood. He was about to start his countdown when she sprung at the rabbit. He stepped back quickly, stunned. She sprang gracefully through the air and managed to catch the rabbit. It was pretty awesome. He smiled, then realised his rabbit was getting away. He composed himself and sprung after it. It was pretty quick, but he chased it down. About a hundred metres from where Kala was Pem caught up with the pesky rabbit. He pounced at it, just able to knock it off its balance. It tumbled over, and Pem tumbled after it. Claws and teeth flurried everywhere, as Pem tried to get a hold of the rabbit. Eventually they came to a stop, thanks to a large tree trunk. Pem looked around frantically, sure he had lost the stupid thing. Finally he noticed something moving under his stomach. He looked down and a little white head popped out. He grabbed it with his paw and sunk in his teeth. Thank goodness....

Kala sat listening to Pembroke's paws thudding into the distance. When she couldn't hear them through the brush anymore, her eyes popped open. Pemmy? She spun in a circle, searching for the male. She wanted to go after him, but her stomach was growling from the taste of the rabbit. Why did he go so far away? She flipped her ears back. He would return! He had to!

Pem polished off his rabbit quite quickly. He pretty much gobbled down the whole thing, except the head. He kept that as a trophy of his exciting hunt.
With blood still laced across his jaw, Pem sauntered back over to where Kala was. He smiled at her. She looked kind of scared. He guessed it was because he had left her. She was a bit of a skitish one. But he liked that. They were friends and he was there to protect her, to make her feel safe. His smile grew.
He placed the rabbit head down in front of her and looked up with his big eyes, still smiling.
"I'm back. And thanks to my prowess at hunting I managed to catch that slippery rabbit. Even though you scared him off."

Kala stood up eagerly when Pembroke returned, but her ears flipped back when he returned with only a head. She had thought they would eat their prey together... Her rabbit still laid untouched at her paws. Her eyes slid down and to the side at his accusation. "It's not my fault you didn't react as fast as I did." She grumbled, though a hint of a smirk lifted the corner of her mouth.

Pem quickly turned defensive. "You were supposed to wait for my count! But it doesn't matter... I still got him. See?"
He poked the dead rabbit head nudging it towards her. He stared at her uneaten rabbit, but luckily he had eaten already so his stomach stayed in tact. He looked up and smiled at Kala.
"Well look at that, you caught a rabbit, almost all by yourself."
He was actually kind of proud of her, which was strange feeling for Pem. He hadn't ever really had anyone be proud of him before, but he was definitely proud of his friend.

Kala stuck her tongue out. "You didn't say anything about counting!" She looked down at the rabbit head, her ears flicking slightly, then comparing it to her rabbit. She looked up again at Pembroke. She thought she had caught it all by herself. Maybe he had helped her find it... "Thanks for helping." She said softly, laying down with the prey between her paws, digging into her food for her hungry tummy.
