Raven tilted her head as she listened to Riddick. "oh..." she said softly. Her mind wandered to why someone would want to live like this. Then again, she wasn't one to judge, she herself lived with it for so long. And she didn't really plan to stop it, she just ran and ran until Riddick found her. And she didn't plan to be found, or to train. She just wanted to run, and hope for the best.
"knowing would be nice. But there is a certain security in not knowing..." she replied as she kept up with him. Her muscles screamed at her, but she ignored them, and pushed on.something she no doubt would have to get used to.

"Where you're going, what's going to happen... Can't always control it. It's good to be able to read and respond as things come at you." Perhaps it was advice, perhaps it was an idle comment, but either way it was there. It was just about the only thing that Riddick said on the way aside from an occasional indication of direction change.
The way was rough at first but slowly became less of an obstacle coarse as it went on. Raven would be very, very sore the next day, but he didn't want her to injure herself trying to keep up with him. Though there was one more difficulty she was going to have to overcome before she would be allowed to rest for more than a moment.
Finally they broke out of the trees and went down a steeply sloping hill into a ravine. The river was fairly wide and very fast, bits of frothing white showing around the edges of rocks in its path. One side of the ravine was mostly just a hill, some parts steep and others a sheer drop, but the side opposite them was a high cliff for a good distance in either direction. Without breaking stride he hopped on a log bridge across the rapids and headed toward a gnarled, toughened tree growing on a wedge of earth at the other side. "There's a cave hidden behind some branches up in this tree. Soon as you get up there you can rest, eat, whatever. You can fly if you want." That said he clawed his way up the tree and disappeared somewhere in the shadows within the branches.

Raven tilted her head, and then nodded slowly "you can't control life...you have to live in the moment, learn to adapt and respond...." she said softly, nas she thought it over. That was her problem, well one of them anyways, she yearned for control over life, after the attack. And she had to realize you cannot control life. At best you can just prepare, and adapt as it comes, try and stay one step ahead of it. "you can't control it...." she murmured softly. She shook her head, and darted to catch up with Riddick, her mind wandered for a few more moments, but then she focused on where they were, and where they were going.
She gasped as she looked into the ravine. It was unlike anything she had ever seen before. It was....beautiful. Her heart raced, and her mind...her cursed mind was at rest. A genuine smile found her maw, as she took in the sight. "it's beautiful" she said softly, before looking to see where Riddick had indicated.
Raven tilted her head, and eyed up the tree in question. She could fly, but she didn't want to. Flight wouldnt always be an option, she had to learn to do thing without her wings. She had long ago slung her jacket over her shoulder, and after checking to make sure it was secure, she leapt and followed the same path that Riddick had taken.
Her muscles screamed at her, and even her bones ached. Everything ached. But she pushed on. Raven was most afraid of disappointing Riddick. She wanted to prove to him she could do whatever he asked. She also had to prove to herself.
Naturally it took her longer to find her way up the tree, and to find the cave he spoke of, but she didn't give up, not until she collapsed on the cave floor in an exhausted thump.

Riddick watched parts of Raven's ascent up the tree from above, but when she neared the top he disappeared into the cave. Once she'd actually made her way inside and then collapsed he padded over and quietly lifted her, moving her over to a spot near the wall where he'd already placed a bowl of water and some fruit. "Not bad, birdy. Try not to overdo it too much, though." He moved back and turned back toward the entrance. "Effort is good. Hurting yourself on the first day, not so much."
He padded back to the entry way, and it could be made out in the dim light that he'd removed his goggles from his eyes again. The mirrored surfaces almost glowed in the dim light, though they almost disappeared as he squinted when he reached the brighter light at the front. Then he shifted to the shadows at the side and shouldered a small boulder that he proceeded to push in front of the exit. It did not block the light utterly, but very nearly; enough so that it could be seen that there was light coming from around a jutting of rock that formed a natural wall across the "room". Still it was very dark, and once again Riddick's mirrored eyes seem to catch what little light there was and almost glow.
"Call me paranoid, but I don't like to leave my door open when I'm trying to sleep." He walked back over and then past Raven, around another "wall" where a slight scrape and the sound of a light splash of water could be heard before he reappeared with another bowl of water. He set it down on the other side of the small pile of fruit before flopping next to it with the boneless grace of a cat. "Fresh fruit is tasty, hm?" he queeried, obviously not really expecting an answer, and then picked out a piece of fruit for himself and began a rather slow and lazy consumption of the item.

Raven squeaked as he picked her up, but made no protest. She greatfuly lapped up the water, and rolled a piece of fruit closer to her and nibbled on it as she watched him close the 'door'. Raven was fascinated by him, his movements, his insight, everything was intriguing to her.
At his comment, her ears sagged softly. "I guess...sometimes when my mind wanders, the only way I can silence it....is to push myself. When my body screams at me, my mind quiets, and I feel...free. The pain of my muscles...its almost like a release...makes me feel alive, not afraid of anything...even if it's just for a moment.." a blush came to her face, as she realized she had been rambling on, when she didn't intend to.
Nibbling at the fruit, Raven nodded "the fruit is very tasty..." she instantly kicked herself. What a stupid thing to say.
Her eyes darted around, as they adjusted to the darkness. She could not see near as well as he, but she could make out where everything was. The dark scared her, but not as much when she knew he was there. She couldn't remember a time when she wasn't afraid of the dark. But now, it wasn't so bad.

Riddick watched her out of the corner of his eye as he gnawed at his fruit, a single twitch of his ear the only real indication that he was paying attention when she spoke. After a moment he said, "If that works for you. Just make sure you can keep up when it's time." Time for training? One would assume, but it was possible and perhaps even likely that Riddick would throw Raven for a few loops before all was said and done. More so than he already had, even.
He didn't say anything, or even really respond, when she replied about the fruit. Just continued watching her from the corner of his eye until he finally finished his fruit. Then he stretched and sat up a bit straighter. "There's another opening to the cave over there." He jerked his head toward the corner wall where the faint light was shining from. "It's underneath an overhang, with no real way to climb up or down to it. You'd have to have some serious climbing gear to make any use of it. Or wings." Jerking his head back the other way he added, "There's a sort of a chimney in the rock over there, and a little pool of water under it. The stream is fairly constant, but small. Drains out somewhere underneath the water. There's also another smaller sort of room behind it... If you want it you're welcome to it, I don't use it." If Raven had previously had any doubts about whether he was intending for her to stay, at least until he decided he was done with her training, that was pretty much his idea of an invitation.

Raven looked around as best she could. And nodded as he listed off what was where. She pushed herself up, somewhat shakily, her muscles were angry with her, but she pushed past it. Something she guessed she would have to get used to, if she were to train with Riddick.
"I..I want to..thank you. For everything. I know this probably wasnt what you had in mind when you went through the woods...but...you've changed my life..and I just want you to know, I am and always will be grateful." Raven said softly, she didn't want to get all mushy, she just wanted him to know how grateful she was, and that he really had changed her life.
With that being said, she softly padded towards the back room that Riddick had mentioned. It was slow going, she just had normal night vision.

He simply watched her with his mirror eyes as she spoke, saying nothing as she finished her small speech and began to walk away. It wasn't until just before she rounded the corner and would have gone out of sight that Riddick made a reply. "I just gave you an option, birdy. You're the one making the change."
He stayed where he was after that as she slowly made her way to the back room. He waited until the sounds of motion had subsided for several moments before he settled his head atop his paws. If she wasn't asleep already she probably would be soon... might as well try to get some rest himself. He had an early day and plans to make her keep tomorrow, after all.
