And the seasons, they go round and round

User Image
Abby had seen figures outside. She wanted to see who could be outside now, in the dark and out past curfew. Unfortunately, she herself had been caught. rather than turn in the lucky souls, she simply blended herself with a tiger she had been forced to absorb.

Abby now sported a large cut that seeped blood all the way from her shoulder to the same hip. "Are you ready to tell me what you were doing out of bed?" Mr. Rigger had asked her.

She spit at his face in defiance and waited for whatever was coming her way. She had been in here before, several times, and had never given the satisfaction of an easy answer.

Conrad restrained himself from cocking an eyebrow. Partnered? He hadn't thought of that. The general reputation that the boys heard of Eliza - Weeping Willow - wasn't what he considered a good one. But, then again, several of the boys claimed they had met up with girls behind the staircases.
And never got put in the cells? Yeah, right.
So maybe the rumors were just because of the way she dressed.
Conrad decided it would be easier to just not think about it.
Anxiously, he looked up, and almost gasped with relief. He found a place where he wouldn't be easily seen by anyone - except for vampires, of course - and gazed intently at the stars. When he could see them, it was as if a part of him were opened, a part of him that was free and knowledgeable.
Conrad had a fear he would never admit to anyone. He was afraid of not knowing. His enemies, his allies - anything. He had to know. But when he looked at the stars, he knew. And he was in peace.
Conrad gazed adoringly at the bright lights, loving their very existence. He knew which stars were just born trillions of years ago, and which ones had actually died quadrillions of years ago. That's how long it takes for the stars' light to reach Earth - long enough for the star to have died before the light was missing from the night sky. It never ceased to amaze him.
They never changed position, and yet they told him so much. Their cycles were unchanging, their rotations the same season after season, year after year. Yet he could tell, just by looking at them. He could tell everything.
Finally the message the sky wanted to tell him came to him, and with a sigh of resignation he looked back on Earth. He stepped forward so the girls could see him. "There's a small girl in the cells. Being tortured with a whip. She can absorb things." Then he shrugged. "But the stars also say that something bigger happens tomorrow."

In truth that she learned,
or the times that he cried

"I know who that is. She looks about nine right?" Evangeline asked. Receiving a nod, she continued. "That's Abby. Freaky kid. She's really strange because of her powers. Most things she absorbs, end up dead," Evangeline explained with a shiver, oblivious to Eliza next to her who was considered freaky for her powers.

Abby? Double crap... what did she kill this time? This is the third time this month. Eliza thought, staring off in the direction of the poor girl's current living quarters. She only caught a part of what Eva had said. "...strange because of her powers..." She knew how Abby felt. People had to stay away from both of them; out of safety. The grip on the glove hem grew tighter with every passing moment; the fabric sliding down her arm without her focus. We've got to do something to help the kid out or she's gonna get herself killed.

Conrad wasn't easily creeped out, so he was a bit surprised that someone like Eve was. Well, maybe being creeped by a girl who could absorb things wasn't actually easy, but still. They were all being trained to be deadly here. Why should a little girl be any different?
"Even with the three of us, there's not much we could do," Conrad reasoned. "If we did something rash and tried to rescue that girl, the teacher would just call in more faculty. We'd be outnumbered, and then we'd all be in the cells."
He waited to see what they would do. He wanted to know their resourcefulness.

"What we can do depends on how much your willing to play along," Evangeline told them. "If we create a big enough scene out here, the other person can go into the cell and get here. It needs to be big enough to get all the teachers out here though, say like breaking into Mr. Rigger's office and stealing weapons, coming out here and staging a large fight?" Evangeline offered up her plan. It would take a few minutes to set up, but when they pulled it off, the teachers would swarm, particularly Mr. Rigger who would want his weapons.

Instantly Conrad was wary. A large-scale fight? With just the three of them? That would bring out all the teachers? He didn't think they could pull it off, and he said so.
"First of all, they're bound to leave at least one teacher at the cells. Second of all, we'd be surrounded and forced into submission within seconds. Third of all, we're hopelessly outnumbered, and fourth of all, are you crazy?"
His mind was racing. "We might be better off with another type of diversion. Say we caused Mr. Rigger to think he was being called up - just for a few minutes - to help another teacher. We'd break the girl out within that time. But another question - what do we do with the girl afterwards? Mr. Rigger won't rest 'till he finds her, and he set an alarm. They'd overwhelm us if we tried to run."

"That's why if all the teacher are out here, nobody will notice he alarm. Second of all, teachers are humans, even in magic classes. If you think that my harpie form won't be big trouble for them, think again. Third of all, refer back to second of all. Besides, I thought you were decent with a sword. Your saying you can't take on a few groggy teachers? Fourth of all, yes," She finished with a smile.

Evangeline had needed to be subdued several time in she school career, later into that career needing drugs to do it. If more teachers were preoccupied with someone else, they might have a chance.

"I repeat - what do we do with the girl after we let her escape? If she stays in the school, they'll find her, and she'll just be put back into the cells - and tortured worse than she already is."

Eliza smiled, listening to the debate about what to do. She knew that Conrad didn't know what she could do, but Eva had some idea. "Give me a few moments with them. They won't remember what was even going on." She said quietly, still listening to every sound coming out of the cell. The cruelty Rigger expressed on the students cut Eliza deeper than normal. She was done putting up with his crap on all of them. She's been in Abby's place more than once and knows his game. She even has the scars to prove it.

"Work you magic on the girl too. She is not one of us, been with the school a little too long for blind trust," she added. She noticed she failed to say whether she was talking about Abby or herself...

"So we are agreed on what to do then?" She asked as she turned to each of them. Evangeline was ready for the realest looking fake fight she could produce, even if it meant shedding a little blood on her part.

[[I'm really confused.]]

Conrad rubbed his eyes, trying to keep himself awake. "Let me get this straight: we storm Mr. Rigger's room and steal the weapons. Two of us run out here, expecting all the teachers to follow us and get into a fight. One of us runs to the cells and rescues the little girl. Then we brain-wash the teachers - and the girl - and go to bed?"
He looked up at the stars again. But there was only one message.
Tomorrow... be blessed enough to survive tomorrow...

"That sounds about right. Am I mistaken?" Eliza asked absently. "Only one thing we have yet to cover. Who gets Abby out?" She pointed out, hoping one of them would volunteer. Though her and the kid were in the same position quite often, Abby seemed to have quite an issue with her more than anyone else. Fricken Rumors...

"Yup, that's right!" Evangeline answered after Eliza. "As to who gets her, I'm much better in a fight than snooping around. If I'm fighting, they'll roll their eyes and break up the fight. But, as I'm sure you two know, there's rarely a glitch in the school without my fingerprints," She blushed slightly.

Evangeline had the reputation of one of the most troublesome kids in the entire school. Most only took her dim-wit impression so far though. They knew she had a semblance of a brain somewhere.

"So is anyone offering?" she asked them.
