Well, at least she gave him half the answers he wanted. What, no stories? But this was the perfect time for them! Huddled, trying to keep warm, needing to pass the time . . . But then, maybe not-queens didn't have to tell other commoners anything? So in a way, she was probably gracing him with her name when she wasn't obligated! Well, that was nice of her! 'Hey, hey! My name starts with an A too! It's Adam,' he stated with a big smile. 'Nice to meet you, Arina the not-queen. I got so caught up following you, I forgot to introduce myself and ask your name. So, um . . . yeah. If you don't have stories, we need something to pass the time besides looking at each other.'

Adam though on it for a moment, making a face as the cogs whirred. 'Hmm . . . I don't have good stories yet either 'cuz I don't get into too many adventures like you do.' Well, not counting the encounter with the tree-dweller, but he never told that one. 'And we can't do a lot of games here 'cause there's so little room. Mmm . . . Oh!' His dark eyes lit up. 'I can mimic voices if you want! I'm really good at that. I can even sound like a girl,' he stated proudly. Adam was curious to know more about Arin's family, but it didn't look like she was in the mood for that; so maybe entertaining her would be better!

"Adam...." For a moment, the female tested the name on her tongue. Her tail flicked indecisively behind her. It was a good name, she thought to herself. Though it was shorter than hers, and a good deal stranger to her. But living in the middle of nowhere with only her immediate family, a lot more things should have been this alien.

"Mimicking voices?" She parroted herself, blinking wide eyes at him. It would be a blatant lie to say that she'd never tried it, but when she did it was in a mean way, usually to get back at Shagufta for talking so much. That was why people did it though, right? Her face scrunched up in a curious manner. "Why would you need to do that, though?" Unless he planned to make fun of her, which she certainly hoped he wouldn't. She was a girl. She'd kick his butt out of this hole faster than the rain would come down.

Why? 'Er . . . Because it'd be fun and it could pass the time?' Adam explained with several blinks. Why would anyone need to ask why in this situation? He got vague impressions that Arina was still reading too much into his actions, and the male gave an inward sigh; what could've happened to her that would cause any wolf to be so critical and suspicious? Or maybe girls were always this sensitive . . .

'See, watch.' Adam paused, remembering a certain dark pup's voice qualities, the way she sounded self-assured and carried through with an inner confidence and attitude. When he spoke, it was with a very different wolf's voice.
'Hello, my name is Macha. I live in Draug Faroth.'

"Alright..." She replied, shuffling about on her cold stomach to get comfortable. With the rain slamming to the ground in such sheets, the snapping wind that would from time to time blow into this dark, cramped hole and the tingling sensation of snow melting on her mud-caked paws, it was the least of her worries. But it would make things a little easier.

"Watch?" Turning her head back to face Adam, head cocked in curiousity and nose wrinkled a little at the inconsistency of it. "That hardly makes any sense!" Why would someone need to watch if they were doing voices? It wasn't as though their ears couldn't hear from the side or the back of anything as foolish as-

Arina swore that if she had not been prepared for some change the male's voice she would have jumped and demanded to know where he could have hidden another wolf in such a small space. Hello, my name is Macha. I live in Draug Faroth. For a blank moment the teen just kept glancing between Adam as a whole being and his mouth. But then of course with the unexpected exhuberance that teenagers were prone to she leaped -as well as she could at least- to her feet and squeezed closer to him, putting her face as close to his as possible.

"How did you do that! I mean geez, I expected you to be good....well, decent but I'd never heard you before but WOW! I almost thought there was someone else here! I mean, I've done that before loads of times to my sister but it never sounded like that. Who was that anyway and how did you do that?"

He was more than pleased to recieve the compliments, grinning boyishly with pride. Adam attempted of course to wag his tail as he always did when happy, but their confinements restricted him to a few short twitches. 'I've had tons of practice,' he told her, lying without actually lying; so it didn't count, right? He didn't want to start racking them up now and get himself dragged to Hell later . . . He still believed his mother about that. 'I wander a lot, so I listen to a ton of different wolves and memorize their voices and dialects and stuff! I can even hold up a conversation sometimes.' He "cleared his throat". "I am a member of Draug Faroth like I said, which is a pack if you didn't know. I will be an alpha there too when I grow up.'

Well, that part she didn't know, but still. It didn't sound out of the ordinary. Adam went back to his grinning self, the seriousness melting away in his glee. 'Didja really like it? I wanna be good at something in life, so I guess maybe it's mimicking and stuff. What're you good at, Arina? And, um . . . where's your family again? I dun wanna make them search for you.'

Moving back once more as he cleared his throat to rest anxiously on her haunches, head dipped just slightly to keep the tops of her ears from brushing against the 'ceiling' of the den. She was hardly more than a step away from him, but it was enough to let him breath for his next personal 'performance'.

Needless to say by her reaction, he hadn't disappointed. To think, there were actual wolves out in the world that sounded like that! Now he wasn't just somebody was a cool trick, he was worldly. And he had a neat trick. "Yes. Of course I did." Arina piped, excitement still evident in her tone as it bounced along every word. The teen was a second away from demanding him to show her all his voice when he spoke up again. And that made her think.

Did she have any talents? Certainly not mimicking voices like Adam could, whatever she thought she was when teasing her sister was nothing now. Her brow twisted together lightly as she thought, and a quick breath escaped her. "Nothing...I guess. I mean, I'm sure there's something. Yeah, I'm great at loads of stuff. Just not that I can tell you right now." Apathetically sniffing, she looked out of the dim hole into the light, pretending to check the weather. Her family? Well, Amaury and Light Brite might be worried, but only because they couldn't yell at her for doing something wrong again. The teen was dirtier now than she was when she left, it'd take a while to get all the dirt, ice and debris from her coat. Ick.

"Probably just back at the den, waiting this nasty weather out. I doesn't matter. They don't care. I'm in-de-pendant. I don't need them." Arina pulled herself a little higher with that statement, certain it would earn his points. Not only in vocabulary but the thought of someone living on their own! "What about you? You gotta have family. You were talking about your mom, right? Where's she?"

"They didn't care"? Adam couldn't believe that any parent would just "not care", and he had had a missing father his whole life; mind, he was one of the siblings that believed he wasn't around for a very good reason, even if it did affect all six of them and their mother deeply. In-de-pendant or not. 'I think having parents is nice,' Adam told her, 'especially if there's two of them. It's like having twice the care of just one parent, right? I bet they probably just show it a little differently, that's all.' He spoke with confidence on this even without knowing the adults. 'But I also think it's cool that you're in-de-pendant, 'cause that's what a queen - a not!queen? - either one needs to be. I bet that makes your parents proud.'

It had made his own mom consider him something more than a deabilitated runt when he became a bit more self-sufficient, at least. Adam smiled up at her as Arina raised her head, showing off that inner confidence she spoke with. He'd like to have as much of that as he kinda did now, but that sort of "bravado" was probably more due to trying to show off. Thing was, it worked!

'Me? Well, um . . . Mom's kinda gone, and my brothers and sisters too,' Adam added with a slight shrug, skirting explaining. 'That just happens sometimes, y'know? But I think I've been doing pretty good on my own. I'm alive, right? But I still want to find them someday . . . Anyway, I have a feeling the rain's gonna be lightening up in a minute. Are your parents far? I wanna make sure you get there safely and with no more monsters.'

More like twice the attitude The teenager thought to herself, though in light of what he'd said was respectful enough not to tell it herself. Maybe then she could understand her preoccupation with Shagufta. But a full set? That was just unfair. No matter how loud she was it was just a tiny buzz compared to her sister's din, it seemed. No, she was much better with her new-found independence. "Yeah....All not-queens need to be that, because if they aren't then they just cut their parents heads off. The enemies, you know. And I'm just too good to let that happen." But even more than that, she was cool now. A feat self-imposed meant nothing unless someone was there to witness it, and now he was there, telling her she was cool.

Today wasn't turning out to be so bad now. Ears pricked forwards once more as he spoke, blinking at him. He was out on his own? For a moment she felt a tinge of sadness, but only to be replaced by a sense of awe and slight envy. As in-de-pendent as she was, it was nowhere near the real thing. She still had a den to go back to, parents to chew her out, a hunk of hide to bite into as she was nowhere near being a skilled hunter just yet.

"Wait, but..." Arina started, going through her version of a family in her mind. A mother, brothers, sisters....She'd had brothers once, her father had told her. But they were dead. He said that she'd never met them, that was why she didn't remember them. Arina had asked why it mattered, if she'd never met them. He said it was just a thing about life she needed to know. Her father. Adam hadn't mentioned one. She pulled her head back awkwardly, taking too long of a moment to reflect on her thought to keep it going before he spoke again. She shook her head. "Not too far. Though, if there were any more, I could totally take them. Maybe even show you a thing or two about being a monster scarer-er."

"Monster scarer-er . . . ?" Him? But he was a pretty peacable kid, and definitely didn't look ferocious; unless monsters had phobias of small, half-blind, mute wolves? In which case he'd be the perfect candidate! "Does being a monster scarer-er mean having to fight them?" Adam asked, then added hopefully, "Or do they just scare them away with awesome roars? 'Cause I can mimic one of those too! I scare the rain off for a bit before I found you after all."

He didn't like the idea of cutting off others' heads for sure, and there was a clear wince in the dark if Arina happened to be watching him. 'I'm not really big on violence,' he admitted with no embarassment, 'but I'm good at distracting, if that helps. Y'know, like how beasts like to eat the goofballs first because we annoy them so much.' He attempted to stand, his limbs starting to fall asleep on him, but there was little rom to stretch and he'd hate to squish her. The sound of rain above was beginning to lessen at least. 'So . . . if you don't mind a goofball peacekeeper tagging along real quick, I'd be happy to be the not-queen's knight!' the male told Arina with a cheesy grin.

Arina gave him a loud 'huff!'. "Don't be such a fool, Adam. I didn't say monster fighter, did I? Scarer-er implies just what it is! A scarer, duh." Turning back to gnaw at her feet once more, she too distracted to see his twitch. If she had it probably have been reasoned off on the weather. Which, by his aptness at predicating it, she was getting ready for. Even if they did meet a monster, it would be better not to be bogged down by all this ice. Of course, it wouldn't end in running away.

Not with her official monster 'non violence' scarer-er/annoyer keeping her company. "That's fine." The teen attempted a shrugging while simultaneously spitting a small clump from her fur. It seemed quite a bit harder than previously expected, now she was getting into the longer-set stuff. "You sound like you're great at being annoying. And I'm not looking for much bloodshed anyway. Cramps my style." Achieving the same goal with less effort? Yes please. Even if it was an imaginary one. "But come on, Mr. Knight." She teased, shifting herself up into at least a sitting position. "You better be ready. It looks like the rain is stopping."

'Oh! Right.' Duh, he should have figure that part out. Maybe the cold was getting to him. Or the closeness in the near-dark. Or both? At least there was no thunder this time; Adam hated to think of the resounding sounds down below frightening him. Or her - but Arina didn't look easily frightened, which was nice when monsters sought her out. Even better was knowing that she didn't like spilling blood which . . . cramped her "style"? Did only girls have styles? He had never heard of the phrase before.

'Cramps my style . . . I like it!' he stated with a grin. 'Do I get my own style too? A knight needs his own style, right? What sort of styles are there?' the questions just seemed to burst forth from him, while outside the rain turned to a light drizzle. 'Can you show me while we walk you home?'
PostPosted: Sun Feb 07, 2010 7:33 pm

Hearing her own voice from him was like some sort of strange echo. It was familiar enough, but still a little surprising if you weren't expecting. Which, since wolves generally didn't mimick their companions like he did, she wasn't. But as 'cool' as she was, Arina was quick to regain her composure.

"Only the coolest of the cool get to have style. Not-queens, especially. It's kind of a necessity." She replied, trailing off teasingly as she looked at him. "But I mean, since you are my knight, I could let you have some. There's a lot, so you've gotta get yourself education proper. I can do that, 'cos I know."

Grinning from his infectious enthusiasm, the female beat her tail against the walls of the small cave. Suddenly her frozen feet itched to move and set off from the tiny prison and into the world. "Just tell me when the weather's ready for us, Mr. Style." Arina giggled, looking to him.

'See? It's nice to laugh~' So she could if she wanted! Now Adam could say this was a mission accomplished, making the femme go from sullen to this and, pleased with the results, he wagged his tail more enthusiastically, thumping her gently as he stood on his backlegs to peer outside. Mist tickled his face, but otherwise it seemed the wind had died down. 'We'll get a lil' wet while we walk, but it's not raining really anymore,' he stated happily. 'Oooooone sec.' With a few effortful pushes, the male scrambled out of the hole into the cold once more, blinking against the water droplets that formed on his eyelids as he searched about. Hmm . . .

Adam poked his head down the hole again. 'Coast's clear, Not-Queen Arina!' he reported smartly, and pulled back to allow her room to get out. And while she did, he sat a bit away and to the side, standing alert and with the most serious face he could muster - that is, a parody of one - to greet her as she emerged out. 'Ready to go, sir! I mean, ma'am!'
PostPosted: Wed Feb 10, 2010 9:54 pm

"Why thank you, good Sir Knight~" She called in her most regal tone. Trying almost vainly to compose herself despite his overdramatic antics, Arina clamped her maw down shut and shuffled her way out of the darkness and into the world. Immediately the wind ruffled her dark pelt, and she gave a surprised fur-shake at the sensation of tiny raindrops on her, splashing down on her wet nose and shorter face fur.

Pulling herself up into what she assumed was a regal and outstanding position, head up and shoulders pushed back, tail held parallel, she pranced out of the den and into the cold snow, forcing what seemed previous to be near frozen paws back into sharp feeling. "Alright, trooper! About face! Hoist the anchor! Ready, march!" Even though the female had no idea what she was saying, she was sure it was said with enough confidence to count as real words. The teen dropped her haughty position as a not-queen long enough to give an encouraging tail wag before bounding off into the snow towards home.

In truth she didn't want to leave, but she still in her mind couldn't fathom his departure. It hadn't happened yet, so it wouldn't.

'Hoisting anchor!' Adam echoed with an equal understanding of the term as she had, flagging his tail like . . . a proper guard would? Well, knights probably stayed close to their charges, so he followed at Arina's footsteps, trying to mimic her regal posture as best as any ol' dork could while acting without experience; Adam had this penchant for overdoing it, though, so he looked just downright silly instead - even if in his mind he looked very, very handsome and professional.

'Aaaaaand we're march, march, march, march, maaaaarching!' the male called as they walked with synced steps, shivering at random intervals as more and more water clung to his pelt. They almost slid down a hill at one point, the ground too soft to hold their weight after such a fierce rain, but otherwise they didn't seem to be harrowed by many other obstacles. In a way, they were getting to play the game he had been meaning to do before the rain had even started, so Adam was quite content with this journey.

. . . Hold up! If he was cold, then Arina definitely was, and wasn't a knight supposed to be doing what he could to keep his charge as comfortable as possible? It was more than just defending her from would-be attackers! Duh again. He siddled up closer to her side, asking, 'Warmer? If you get too wet, we can stop every once in a while to let you dry off.' The mist was going to pervade until evening anyway, so they'd have to adjust accordingly.
