A head cover? Of all the things she was expecting to come out of Yulu's mouth, that was not it. She knew she was probably blinking at the other girl like a wherry for a moment before she jerked herself back. "A scarf or something?" she pursed her lips thoughtfully. She had a few things in her trunk for her hair, but were any a proper cap?
She moved quickly to the end of her bed, bending over and popping open the lid. A head cap? A bonnet? Scarves would do nicely if Yulu was fine with it. Clothing started flying with that. Some tops, a few skirts, another jacket or two. Scarves in abundance, along with a little white bonnet and a tight-fitting cap that Jada used when she wanted to crinkle her hair to make extra waves.
"Take your pick." there was a selection there. "I encourage you to go for the scarves."

"I don't need a scarf. I'm not trying to accessorize myself, I'm trying to limit the amount of my face that people can see. I don't exactly like going around dressing as the opposite gender, if you can understand what I'm telling you."
The feeling of dressing opposite of her gender was slowly creeping up on Yulu again despite actual wearing proper clothing, and she crossed her arms over her chest as she surveyed what was set before her. She finally settled for something that simply covered most of her hair and a little bit of her face, giving some form of anonymity to the girl.
She felt silly wearing everything and wondered how much longer it would be before she could actually wear something decent, but until then she'd have to put up with playing dress up.
"Okay, there."

"Scarves," Jada said, almost sounding indignant, "Are not just accessories." As if to prove it, she lifted up one of the scarves, tying it expertly into her hair. When she was done, most of the mass was hidden. Only a few hints of her long hair peeked out. "They can be very colorful hats."
Dressing as the opposite gender? "So you are dressed as the wrong gender if you are a woman in a skirt, compared to being a woman in pants?" she sounded confused. Had she not quite understood something? "Either way, you don't look silly, Yulu." she could at least assure the other girl of that. Or boy of that?

"I may not look silly to you but I feel outright ridiculous. If any of the guys back home saw me in this they'd not let me live it down for days, and I'd probably have to cut more of my hair off in order for them to stop."
Yulu placed the cap over her head and gave an inward sigh of relief as it did cover all of her hair and much of her face, mostly only showing her dark eyes and a few curves of her jaw. No one would really be able to play her now, even better if she didn't speak in her damaged voice. She could always try to talk high pitched and see how that worked out.
"Alright, are we going to go? If we wait much longer there will hardly be anywhere good to sit and we may miss out on the warmer portions."

"If you say so." Jada's tone was flat as she looked the other figure over. "Let's get out of here then." She grabbed a leather band for her hair and pulled it out of the knot it was in. As the two of them walked she brushed her fingers through the hair, pulling it back up expertly into a tight ponytail. "So, where do you like to sit? I tend to try and get as close to the weyrsinger as I can." her cheeks flared. She liked the greenrider, he was a good man. And, if he performed, she was able to be close enough to clearly hear the performance.

"Anywhere is fine with me. I usually take my food and go sit outside somewhere, or trek back to the infirmary. I don't socialize much with others."
Yulu was doing her best to ignore any stares that may have been coming her way, and for the most part it seemed like she was doing okay. She was used to people gawking at her for various reasons, but never did she think it would be because of her feminine assets or the fact that she'd shoved herself into a dress. That was always the odd ringer in all of this.
"I'll just sit where you sit and when I'm done eating I'm going back to my room. There's no reason for me to stay in this outfit all day when there are things I have to be doing."

The young woman gave a small shrug, ignoring the eyes on her companion. "As you please." Jada said simply. It was the best way she had to deal, at the moment, with this stranger in a feminine skin. Nature had apparently made them a cross-dresser, or they had been raised very strangely. That was none of her business, however curious she might be to dig more.
None.
She moved into the dining hall, glancing around from table to table. Ah! "Come on!" she reached out for Yulu's hand, and whether she grabbed it or not picked up her pace. Wove through the mass of Weyrfolk, Candidates and Riders to snag seats for the two of them.
Oddly, she looked triumphant, like she'd done something that pleased her. Though they were good seats... if you liked being so close to the end of a table.

Yulu didn't say much as she was lead around, her food already in hand and her stomach ready to eat, so when the pair sat down at the end of the table and quite close to where the Weyrsinger was, she merely sighed and shrugged her shoulders over how victorious this Jada person seemed. Was sitting next to some guy who liked to sing really that important? Yulu couldn't see how it was.
She started to eat without waiting for anything else to happen, the needs of her stomach outweighing anything else, and it was clear by her eating manners the exact way she had been raised. Yulu ate like a man, down to how she held everything in her hands.
"I've always though the food here was pretty good."

She settled herself in to the dinner table, joining in with the others reaching out to grab bits of food for her plate before it was all taken. What was the main course? Wherry soup, it seemed. Again. A common meal for Telgar. She ate politely, eyes on the others. And then she caught a look of Yulu.
And couldn't look away. She kept her gaze on the other girl, full of horrified fascination. Really? She ate like she was starving. Or like she had been raised by Felines. Or like a man.
Jada opened her mouth, then closed it. Repeated the action, brow furrowing. Then decided to shut up and finish her own meal. "Yes," she said finally, "The food here is normally very good."

"That being said, I need to go. I've humored you this far and you've even lent me some clothes, but it's time for me to head back to my own barracks and get into things I'd rather be wearing. I'll have this dress mended for you and return it when it gets done, alright?"
The food was in her stomach and she was warm enough to go out without the need to worry over the cold, so Yulu stood up and dusted her hands off on her knees as she did so. Her bosom jiggled slightly with the motion, catching the eyes of a few at the table, though Yulu passed it off as she started to leave.
"I'll come by your room later to return it, or if you need it sooner you can come to mine and I'll give it back then."

"Of course." Jada gave Yulu a smile and a friendly wave goodbye. "I'll have your clothes for you and done in a day or so, I suppose I shall be seeing you then." She watched Yulu go, head tilted and eyes curious about the strange woman she'd encountered.
So different. She couldn't tell if she liked her or not.
===
Three days later, Jadastopped before stepping into the room she'd been able to identify a Yulu's. People had told her the other person was there, and a few people had snickered at her searching out the other person. The first person she'd asked hadn't known a girl named Yulu; the next person she'd had the brains to ask about the guy, Yulu.
In her arms she held a few things: A basket, woven, with Yulu's breeches on the bottom, neatly folded. In the middle was the chest wrapping Yulu had left behind, washed, whitened, and mended. Atop that was her shirt, neatly folded and pressed. And on top of all of it, nestled inside a single dark brown scarf, were two firelizard eggs. One was a rich purple, the other a small but rich gold color. "Yulu? Yulu, it is Jada, are you in?"

Yulu looked up from where she'd been sitting over a medical skin, her eyes quickly scanning over the pages as if she were merely reviewing instead of actually reading. The young woman was lucky enough not to have a roommate, the person who had previously been with her demanding that they be moved out and away from 'the freak', and so she was able to do mostly as she pleased.
Her room was tidy, unlike how many would guess for a girl thinking as a guy, and Yulu rose to her feet as Jada's voice came over her ears. It was about time she came, the dress having been fixed a while ago.
"Yeah, come in. I'm in here."

"Hi." Jada pushed open the door the rest of the way with her foot, hands full of her surprise and the clothing. She glanced around the room, almost embarrassed that Yulu had seen her mess of a room when she had something so clean herself. "You keep your room so clean. Mine is always a mess, I don't know how you do it."
She moved over towards the bed, looking for a place to set her burden down. "Sorry it took me so long to come by. Something... came up." Namely Allegretto laying a CLUTCH in her clothing chest. Still...

"It's not a problem. I only fixed your dress up a few hours ago anyway, I've been pretty busy trying to keep up with my studies while I was here at the Weyr. I find that I'm falling behind and my Father would die if he ever found out."
Yulu moved over to a chest and picked up Jada's dress, the front of it repaired quite nicely with small stitches. Yulu had been pretty impressed to find that sewing a shirt was a lot like sewing up a wound, only there wasn't a chance of infection or further injury when working with cloth. She was rather pleased with her job, and she turned back to Jada only to stop at the sight of the items in the basket.
"Firelizard eggs? How did you even get those?"
She'd never seen the eggs before, only every the final product. People at the hall had eggs, sure, but Yulu wasn't in enough social circles to be allowed viewing access until the little beasts had burst their shells.

"It's what came up." Jada gave Yulu a shrug as she set the basket down on Yulu's bed in the place the girl had to vacate to go get the dress. "They happen to be for you, actually. The rest of my apology for almost having you catch cold." she reached out, neatly snagging the dress away from Yulu. "My gold clutched on your pants." the last line came out in a rush. Maybe if she slurred the words, Yulu wouldn't think about what it meant when Jada said a firelizard had laid eggs in her pants.
The repair job on the dress was neat, methodical, every stitch precise and clean. "You did a good job." the comment was idle. "Thank you for repairing it."
