Rhys started the take off sequence quickly speaking off the various checks in his head as he did. He hadn't even considered the in ability to speak as being a problem for the Fiend, after all when he heard Dio he registered it as speech even if it was audible. Picking up on the end of Dio's thoughts Rhys glanced over toward the monitor.

"Ah...sorry about that," frowning Rhys hurried over toward the fiend, Tektite moved along at his heels pausing to slip between the cracks of the metal grates that make up the floor. "I'm not actually sure it'll be able to understand you...but we can try something. Savants have similar abilities and the newer starships...or at least the starships with newer additions have additions to them to allow the Savants to control by thought without a neural jack." Hitting a few spots on the screen the images upon it changed quickly and then a panel on the wall next to the console opened. "You'll need to put your hand on it...and well think at it. It might not work for you but no harm in trying." Rhys smiled shifting his gaze to Dio, taking a step back he gave the fiend what he hoped was a nod of encouragement.

The fiend listened to Rhys and felt a little surge of guilt that he couldn't be a better accomplice. He lifted his right hand and moved it toward the new panel that appeared. Dio hesitated, glancing over toward the other boy, before he finally placed his hand where it indicated. 'I would like the local star charts and maps for this area of space please.' He hoped he sounded confident enough, and that the machines heard him.

Curiosity however was always something that lurked in the background, and he let his eye move over to Rhys again. 'What's a Savant? You mean the definition of a Savant? Someone who is extremely intelligent and good at something with no formal education? It sounded like you meant something completely different though.' His voice paused and then his brows furrowed, making wrinkles appear on his forehead, 'And what is a... Neural Jack?'

It wasn't more then a moment that Dio directed his thoughts that local start charts started to pop up on the screen. The charts covered the nearby stars that were apparent and charted stars barely visible in the night sky as well.

Rhys paused a moment considering the question before speaking, "We use the term Savant as a title for a group of people. They learn deep meditations and focus on learning the ways of the universe. Those that continue down their paths long enough usually bond with hyperspace entities. Once they bond with their entities they can effect our space in fantastic ways..." pausing Rhys considered how to explain, "some can create fire, have telepathy, or make objects move without touching them. They do it by manipulating hyperspace which is right next to our own space." Rhys paused to concentrate a moment as he punched in a few commands in the computer, "Neural Jacks are what most pilots have added so they can directly interact with their ship. Cinder is part machine..." Rhys frowned slightly before shrugging, "They basically allow you to directly plug your ship into your brain - Savants' can't use Neutral Jacks because it disrupts their bond to their entity." Quickly Rhys finished the sequence and the ship slowly pulled itself up from the ground, "my father was a Savant..." pausing Rhys smiled and gestured outside, "and off we go...ready to go find your star?"

Dio was amazed by the accuracy and responsiveness. He didn't actually think it would work for him, after all he wasn't sure what he and those like him really were. Whatever these Savants where, they could communicate like him, and it made him feel warm inside for some reason. He leaned forward and studied the scattering of dots and the names that corresponded with each one. He was sure they were names given to the stars, and not their actual names, because none of them sounded quite right.

He cocked his head to the side and then glanced toward Rhys. 'I don't really know where I'm going, you know? I hear the songs in my head but they don't make sense half the time. It's like I'm in a room with many individuals in it, and they are all talking to me at the same time. Except they aren't saying the same thing, and they are all trying to talk over each other. It's very frustrating.'

The fiend hoped that maybe if he was closer to one, somehow, he would be able to hear that one more clearly. Or maybe the others wouldn't be able to overpower the one he was near. Dio was pretty sure this wouldn't work the way he wanted it to, but it was worth a try.

After all, this was the season right?

Rhys was taking a big risk for him, and he would have to find a way to repay him somehow. 'Isn't the Cinder lady your mother? Cinder doesn't have wings like you right, so do Savants have wings like you do? I don't know who my parents are. I guess the closest thing I have to a father is the Athan man. Merci told me he found my stone, and gave it to her to raise me. Merci would be my mother I suppose, because she cares for me and buys me all the books I could want.'

He realized he was babbling again and not really giving Rhys time to answer him. Dio mentally chided himself. He wasn't a child anymore, he would have to try and control himself a little better.

As they continued their conversation Rhys brought the Warhammer to full readiness for flight. "Here we go," glancing over at Dio he smiled slightly a touch of thrill in his voice. Out of the things he had tried and done before flying was one of his favorites. Taking advantage of Rhys distraction Tek scuttled between the plates on the floor working his way into the wiring his little shadowy tendrils snaking out curiously.

Rhys concentrated on flying for a moment letting the need of the ship give him time to consider his answer and feelings after Dio's question about his wings and parents.

He didn't realize it but Rhys pulled his wings more closely to himself before speaking. "Yeah - Cinder doesn't have wings...she's a normal human. At least she started out that way - my father was normal too." Frowning he shifted his gaze to the sky, "I wasn't born ... normally which is why Cinder didn't know about me until recently, I was created in a lab and they mixed my parents DNA with draconian DNA...so that's why I have wings ... it's not normal." Rhys cleared his throat attempting to push away some of the jumbled feelings associated with the whole thing before gesturing skyward, "we are getting higher just tell me if there is anyplace specific you want me to go." Taking a break from it's searching Tek pulled itself out from the paneling and shifted against Rhys leg, pausing the fiend rested comfortably as it experienced and attempted to process it's guardian's quiet distress.

Dio couldn't help the excitement. They were going to be flying up in the sky. He would be in space, where they lived, and sang. The fiend stepped away from the controls he was standing next to. The forward panels of the Warhammer slid open, turning part of the room into an observation deck. Dio gasped at the sight, and moved his hand up to where his mouth would be.

They were out there, all of them.

Dio tore his eyes away from the scene just long enough to glance back at Rhys 'It's so beautiful. Isn't it beautiful? Can you hear them?' The song was there, just like it was at night. The crazy melody that all of them talking at once seemed to make up. Dio didn't know he was doing it but he started to hum along, giving voice to the music only he could hear

Rhys' wings twitched slightly as he turned to look out toward the night sky, Tek noting all the excitement found his way up higher to get a look outside as well.

Smiling Rhys moved over to the fiend waiting a moment he gave Dio time to get comfortable. When the humming started Rhys smile widened a moment, "I can hear it now..." For a moment Rhys just rests his hand on Dio's shoulder. Tek drifted back and forth in time with Dio's humming his little shadowy tendrils flickering in excitement.

After a bit of waiting Rhys speaks again, "alright...so is there any specific direction you want to go in more?"

============================

Cinder stood in the foyer of the house a frown on her face, "Merci..." glancing back she looked to the door. "Things seem emptier then they should be."

Dio moved his eyes from the night sky and he looked at Rhys. He turned and gave the other boy a hug, he was so overwhelmingly happy at the moment that it just seemed natural. 'Thank you, thank you so much. You have no idea how much this means to me.'

Just as suddenly as he hugged him, Dio was letting go. His body turned back to the stars in front of him and he shook his head. 'I can hear them all, but... but I think that... Can we go that way?' The fiend didn't use a chart, he just pointed off to the right. 'It seems... more concentrated... over there.' He didn't know how to describe the sensation. Something inside him just told him that he needed to go that way.

Merci put down the shopping bags inside the front door and saw the remnants of Dio's decorations. Her brow furrowed and she cocked her ears to listen intently for a moment. "Cinder I think the boys are gone. I can't hear them in the house."

She was momentarily panicked. Merci, however, dealt with that feeling efficiently. "I'm going to check the house. Do you want to look in the guest house and maybe... I don't know the Warhammer and see if they are there?"

Rhys returned the hug with a slight smile, his wings shifting uneasily he wasn't sure what to do with all the emotion and touching but attempted to hold up as well as he could. Glancing over toward where Dio was pointing Rhys nodded, "I can do that, just let me know if you need me to change directions or something."

While the others seemed to be distracted Tek, drifted along the floorboards until the found a panel with enough of an opening he could get inside. Once inside Tek started feeling about the circuitry. The little fiend would have likely gotten away with it for quite a while if Dos hadn't started to object.

"Intruder detected within the system...Intruder detected within the system..."

Rhys had moved back to the controls but paused frowning hearing the AI, quickly the boy switched the ship to manual overrides and spoke quickly with a bit of worry in his voice, "Dos please pinpoint the intruder."

Hearing the computer and Rhys voice Tek slunk out from the panel and moved back across the floor attempt to appear as nonchalant as a wisp could.

"We should be on the right course, if we get to where you were wanting or start to get too far let me know. I need to figure out what's wrong...Cinder won't take it very well if her ship is broken when we get back."
Rhys looked over the readout given by the ship and headed over to the panel in the wall and started to open it up.

=====================

With a slight frown Cinder nodded, "maybe they went to give Saki a snake or something..." turning she headed out onto the property and toward where the Warhammer was parked. Moving quickly it didn't take the long legged pilot long to get to the spot, pausing her frown turned to a scowl once she realized the ship was gone. "Hells..." cursing softly she turned and started back toward the house at a brisk stride just short of a run.

Dio finally looked away from the expanse in front of him and tilted his head back to see what Rhys was doing. 'Is everything okay?' He walked back over to the panel that he was supposed to be manning and he placed his hand back on it. The teenager trusted the Rhys had things under control for the moment, if he needed help he would ask for it. Dio was about ready to talk to the panel again when it seemed to shift in response to his thoughts.

That was super handy!

Dio scanned the image and he canted his head to the side, like he was actively listening to something. The song was different up here, like they knew he was trying to find them. He stared at the screen and moved it, though what he was looking for was something that only he knew.

Merci started in the downstairs, looking in rooms quickly for any sign of the kids. She could see what Dio had actually managed to finish, and the decorations were actually quite nice. However at the moment she was completely distracted by the lack of life.

For such a full house it was incredibly empty.

She was halfway up the stairs before Cinder made it back to the house. Merci stopped and looked toward the door, her forehead creased with worry, "Did you find them?"

Rhys peered inside the panel sliding a circuit board out and flipping it over, "yeah just a short...strange though Cinder just changed these," shrugging slightly he tossed the worn circuit to the side before pulling another from a nearby supply kit built into the wall.

Tek watched the discarded bit of electronic hit the floor and spend over to collect it. The little wisp wasn't able to really carry it very well but started to slowly drag it along the floor of the ship. Rhys catching sight of the fiend smiled a little and leaned down to pick it up, "not sure what you want it for but I'll carry it for you." Pocketing the circuit Rhys moved back to the controls, nodding slightly he looked over the charts before switching Dos back online to auto pilot to his coordinates.

"See anything yet?" Rhys turned slightly catching sight of Dio scrolling through the charts.

============================

Cinder paused and rested against the door, "no I didn't find them...but I also didn't find something else - the ship's gone." She'd thought over various scenarios at first she had considered that someone had taken the kids in the ship, but she couldn't figure out how they'd been able to hold onto Dio; that and there hadn't been any signs of a struggle at the house.

"I'm pretty sure they took it," gesturing to the stairs Cinder moved over and started up them, "lets get Mycroft, he'll be able to give us more information."

Dio stared at the display intently, and he shook his head. He didn't want to say anything to Rhys but a little bit of a headache was starting to form behind his eyes. He'd probably been away from Merci longer then he should be, the women had been out shopping for a couple hours before he'd bumped into Rhys. It was distracting, but he wouldn't let it get in the way right now. He was so close, the layers of noise were different somehow.

He let out an extremely frustrated noise. 'I don't know, I was trying to see what was that direction. I wish I could find a way to explain what I can hear, it would make things easier.'

Dio removed his hand from the panel and lifted it up to his forehead, rubbing it in an unconscious attempt to stop the headache before it started. 'It's like a choir, but a really big one with hundreds of people in it. Every one of them is singing a different song, with a different rhythm and tempo, different pitch, different volume. Drowning each other out. If I don't try and concentrate it makes a sort of song all in itself, but when I try and single one out it becomes overpowered by the others. I'm starting to think it's impossible to hear just one.' He paused to see if that made any sense outside of his brain before he continued, 'It's changing though. It's always sounded the same from the house, but here it sounds different. I don't know if it's because they know what I'm trying to do.'

Dio heaved something similar to a sigh before he sheepishly added, 'I don't know how much longer I can be away from Merci. So can we go that way now?'

*****

Merci frowned and followed Cinder, "I thought that Mycroft was sorta needed in order to fly that thing. Am I wrong? How would they have managed without him?" The woman would never admit it out loud, but she had a horrible soft spot for the prim AI.

She assumed Rhys would be the one flying the ship, and she had no idea how experienced a pilot he was. "Cinder I'm worried. Dio's a teenager now true, but he still relies on me. If he's gone for too long I have no idea what kinds of things will happen to him." She couldn't keep the note of worry out of her tone as she spoke. Merci knew that they were linked, and was pretty sure bad for him meant bad for her.

Rhys turned some listening to Dio, he wish he knew what to do to help the fiend but he didn't hear the stars as Dio did. Rhys dutifully looked over the charts attempting to tell if there were any abnormalities in the stars.

"Right, well I don't see anything on the scanner that might pinpoint the music." Frowning Rhys turned as Dio added the last bit, he hasn't really thought over how long they had been away and now he was starting to get worried.

"We'll head back now, if you want to come back out maybe another time with Merci`" their day of freedom Rhys realized wasn't going to be all that free and he didn't want to put Dio at risk.

Rhys started to run through the protocol to take the ship back toward home.

Tek slunk over toward Dio, the little wisp curled up against Dio's leg attempting to be comforting. The experience had gone from exciting to tense in not too long of a time.

========================

"Well Mycroft is usually on the ship when I fly it, but there is a back up AI on board in case of emergency...simply called dos. Dos isn't nearly as independent and doesn't have a personality like Mycroft does but he can fly the ship."

Cinder gave Merci a bit of a hug and headed into their room, "while once we get Mycroft up hopefully we'll be able to make contact with the ship."
PostPosted: Mon Sep 27, 2010 3:33 pm

Dio looked up and he shook his head quickly, 'No no we're too close. Please I don't wanna go back I want see whats out here. We haven't had any time, I haven't had any time.' He leaned down and scooped up Tek in his right hand, cuddling him close to his chest. 'I'm just not sure how long I can be away from her. I'm not in pain or anything.'

Okay so he had a headache, but it wasn't that bad... Yet...

Dio took the steps over to put a hand on Rhys' shoulder. 'Please I've been trying my whole life to understand. This is the closest I've ever been.' It was worth the discomfort, the weakness that might come if he could just... understand.

*****

Merci followed Cinder and leaned in the doorway. The pilot know what she was doing, all she could do was hope they weren't too far away. Part of her was honestly amused that this kind of thing could happen. Stealing a car was one thing, but a spaceship? She would have thought that they were a little more complicated, and harder to hijack.

Oh well.

Merci folded her arms, "You should probably do the talking. Because I'm not feeling very nice right now."

Rhys looked over at Dio frowning slightly the boy sighed and looked back to the computer, he didn't want to upset him but from his bond with Tek he knew that things may start to go badly.

Before Rhys was able to really answer Cinder's voice came over speakers of the ship, "Rhys, Tek, Dio - are you there?" Her voice was firm and authoritative, the worry had been pushed away for the moment.

Glancing over at the controls and winced he knew he had to respond, clearing his throat he looked over to Dio, "we better take this."
