"Him killing you again." Her voice was chill. "Me finding you dead again, bleeding out on the concrete like -- like common roadkill. No. As your captain, I'm giving the Guard free reign. If they find him, I'll have them use fatal force." The honeymoon was brutally over. "I will use fatal force. I don't care if you feel as though you and he have a special relationship -- "
She cut herself off, slashing her hand down. "I don't care any more. It's cold. You need to go -- wherever it is that you go. I'm not having this argument with you." Well, obviously she was having this argument with him. "Go home, soldier."
God, it was awkward and tense between them, pulled tight. There was so much unsaid: so much that they had said, so much that they perhaps had regretted saying. All that was standing between them.
"Go home, Sagittarius."
Intractable.

"He got lucky," Jude declared, part of him knowing the attempts to defend himself against the loss were futile. The same part that agreed with Hero, in some ways. He'd gotten careless and basically died because he was clumsy and fell over.
Not again.
Never again.
"This so-called Guard of yours, "Captain", will get killed if they even look at him for too long. You have with you a bunch of little girls, a drunk, Topher--" As if saying Topher's name a certain way could mean something different. "--and..."
And he couldn't say anything about Leo for the time being, so he cut himself off there with his list.
Somehow he'd gone from Defend Zodiac Honor Mode to 10 Things I Hate About Zodiac reruns.
"I'm not going home. I'm going to keep looking, like I've been doing, until I find him. This isn't your fight, it's my fight. He killed me, not you. If you touch him, Hero, I will never forgive you."

"I can live with your hate," said his Captain, coolly. "I won't live with your death."
And she had turned around, was already striding off into the cold, pulling her scarlet cloak around her. She looked like a cardinal, there in the grey and in the bleakness of the Destiny City winter. But then she stopped, and her voice carried out back to him despite her not turning around --
"Sleep tonight. I won't be looking either. You have one night's grace, Lawson."
And then she strode off, as though they hadn't just spent the better part of -- how long had it been, he couldn't even identify -- tucked into each other's embrace. Into each other. Embarrassingly into each other, revealingly into each other. Maybe that had always been something that was going to happen. But whatever it was, it hadn't sweetened the Captain's ability to let him take care of his own s**t.
