Abdiel smiled to her as she caught up, both of them now at the same easy pace. And he couldn't help but laugh again. Walking on lava? He found that he laughed a lot around this girl. He realized that he was genuinely happy to have her as a traveling companion.

"I don't think anyone can walk on that stuff. I probably shouldn't try it. I'm not heat resistant." He chuckled. "It will be fun to see though." 'If we even find a volcano,' he thought to himself. He didn't want to spoil her fun with his doubts. Then he thought, why spoil the fun at all? With a smirk he said, "But who knows, maybe I can walk on it. I've never tried, what do I know, right?" It was exciting to think this way. It was like an adventure. He let his excitement cause him to pick up the pace into a fun trot. The extra speed would help to warm them up as well.

As they went, he said, a little more seriously, "So tell me about where you're from. What kinds of things does your kind like? Obviously not cold," he finished with a chuckle.

'You've never tried? Well, it's always good to try new things!' Rahnya exclaimed as she picked up a trot to keep pace with Abdiel. 'Although I've never tried it either. For some reason I feel as I shouldn't, I'm not a very hardy horse.'

'My home..' slowing down a little she tries to force back the memories. 'I'm not sure where it is now. Once I started walking I kind of lost track.' Pausing to look around her, she realizes how lost and far away from home she must be. But for some reason, it didn't seem as bad, now that she had the found the company of a strong stallion. He would protect her if she needed, or at least, she hoped.

Catching up again, she wallows in the beauty of her old lands. 'Well, yes, it was always very hot. But oh! It was marvelous. Tons of creatures running around, beautiful wild flowers, and a rich air full of so many different scents!.' Smirking she remembered the time her herd-mate showed her something called a 'monkey'. It was so small and friendly, and oh so very curious! How she wish she could have brought one of her little friends along for company.

'My herd, we always kept on the go. Moving from one place to another. I loved it, I seen so many different things! We came in contact with other herds a lot, and my sire was always so pleasant to them.' Sighing, she forces back the memory of his cold gaze when she was banished from the herd. 'They needed us. We collected many things on our travels, and other herds wanted to trade with us. It was a very peaceful existence.'

Catching up with him again, she feels weird, talking about her past. Almost like she experienced it, but in another life. 'And now, I'm here. Like I told you, I'm bad luck so I had to leave. Since then I've just been wandering around, wondering what other storytellers do with their existence. I've never met one before, perhaps I'm the only one..'

Abdiel felt her slow down, and turned, watching her as she thought about her past. He slowed down too, waiting for her, but letting her stay back to revel in her memories.

He sighed under his breath. She did seem the type to get lost. He wondered how long she had been walking around, not having the faintest clue to where she was or where she was headed. He figured it didn't matter to her, as long as she was headed somewhere.

"It gets hot here too, in the summer. And in the spring, tons of flowers, if you know where to look." He smiled, thinking about the meadow.

She seemed so happy talking about her old herd, but there was a hint of sadness in her eyes. That's what memories looked like. Bittersweet.

He looked around as she talked, watching the plains pass beneath their hooves. He liked traveling, and it seemed as if she liked it too, though she must be getting tired he thought. He wondered how long they would go, how far they would come. He didn't care how far they went, for he really had no place to call home.

"That's how I am," he commented when she mentioned the nature of her herd. "On the go a lot. I like to see new things, know the land...go on adventures." He grinned.

She had caught up now, and was back to the present. Back to the plains and the snow covered earth beneath their hooves.

"I doubt you're the only one," he said as she finished. After all, there were other unicorns out there. Lots of them. And he was the first one she'd met. There had to be other storytellers. With a chest...and cloth...

"Will you know when it's time to tell me my story?" He asked, thinking back to the mysterious cloth he had removed from the chest. It intrigued him, and he hoped that soon he'd get to hear the story.

Setting down the chest, she breaths in the rich smell of the cherrywood. It was a comforting smell, one she has known and loved her whole life. Her chest has never let her down, always bringing her with new and exciting surprises.

Stopping to settle down, she opens the chest and gazes inside. Staring up at Abdiel she breathes 'Well, you know what to do.'

The thought of reading Abdiel's story excites and yet frightens her. She has no control over what comes out in the cloth, and sometimes it's not pleasant. Often the stories act as a warning for the future, however hard it may be to decipher. 'Please chest, let Abdiel's story be a happy one.' Gazing back to the chest, she readies herself for whatever the cloth has to say.

Abdiel slowed his steps until he was stopped, standing there with Rahnya, staring at the chest.

He walked over to it, the anticipation warming his insides; or perhaps that was just from the running.

He nudged the chest open gently with his nose and waited for the cloth to form there. He knew what would happen, yet it was still just as mystifying as before. Soon, the white cloth with his blue tribal markings had appeared. There was something different about it this time, but Abdiel couldn't think of what it was.

He picked it up and set it in front of Rahnya. He liked it; it was soft and very pretty. He just hoped it told something good about him.

He looked at Rahnya but stayed silent, waiting for her to speak. Perhaps she could tell him his story, or perhaps he would have to wait. He would be as patient as he could until he found out.

Rahnya takes the cloth and suddenly stops in her tracks. 'What is this? Surely it can't be... For the cloth Rahnya took from Abdiel was not the same one she gave him before. 'What does this mean...?' Never in her life has anyone's story changed. Her mother never mentioned it, and she hadn't thought it possible.

'I... I'm sorry. I don't understand. I think perhaps this should wait.' Confused, Rahnya feels a little shaken. It has always been known that everyone has a story, and that they should learn something important from it. But that's one story. One story to outline their most important lesson in their life. How could anyone have more then that?

"What's wrong?" was the first thing Abdiel could think of to say. He squinted his eyes at the cloth in confusion. He had been waiting patiently to hear his story, and now he would have to wait some more.

He couldn't help but think that maybe there was something wrong with his story. Maybe the stories only worked for those from Rahnya's home-land. He was an outsider as far as that magical chest was concerned and maybe it didn't want to work for him.

Whatever it was, it had apparently shaken Rahnya. He didn't like seeing her worried like that.

"Hey," he put on a nonchalant voice and tilted his head to the side, smiling at her, "It's probably nothing to worry about. Probably just something wrong with me." He laughed at his joke.

"You want to keep going?" He asked. "We've still got a few more hours before we should have to stop for the night. We should start looking for a warm place to sleep."

Staring at Abdiel, she realizes that the day has gotten pretty late. 'Oh, yeah, I guess we should.' Trotting beside Abdiel she wonders what her chest is trying to tell her. Surely this handsome man wasn't the fault?

Looking back on the day, she tries to take it all in. Here is this new man who comes by and it looks like he wants to be friends. Even after all the warnings she gave him, he still sticks around. Maybe he IS crazy she wonders. But she liked him, and it really was lonely wandering around this strange place by herself.

Looking at him, she realizes she doesn't know what to expect from these lands. 'Where should we stop for the night? Is there anywhere close that I won't freeze to death in?'

Midnight Mare
As they trotted along, Rahnya seemed to be deep in thought, and Abdiel himself was wondering about things as well. He wasn't sure what the significance of the cloth was, but for some reason it gave him a strange feeling. He wasn't sure, but he thought, or hoped, that maybe this storyteller could tell him something about himself, maybe even about his past. He didn't want to dwell on that though, in case it wasn't possible.

"We should find a place that's free of snow...maybe an overhang, or somewhere in the forest where the trees are thick and the snow doesn't cover the ground. We are headed towards the forest now, we can stop there." Abdiel looked around, in case he saw a better place even closer. He thought of the cloth once more. "Hey, we can use this for warmth too." He set the cloth on her back, a quick thought crossing his mind that hopefully this was an okay thing to do, and stepped back to look at it. "Looks good on you."

((ooc: I hope sometime when the trinket shops open to get a blanket for Abdiel. I've made it part of his story that he carries that cloth with him everywhere he goes. :] Also...if we keep this rp going (I know, I'm like a year behind), I've thought of some stuff from Abdiel's past we could use for the story.))
