The woman quirked a smile as Ebony posed the question to her, keen eyes turning over the two Raevans carefully. Cordelia did seem tired but at Zul's mention of feeding, the lethargy and reason for her closeness to her charge was more clear. Alex chuckled softly, shifting the bag between hands and nodding once to Ebony. "I'm fine with it. We still have a bit of shopping to do ourselves, but I don't want to hold you two up." The Italian smiled gratefully to the violet-haired femme for her company at all; it was a hell of a treat for her to be able to go out with a woman and not get tied into knots trying...well, not to be herself. Being a tomboy did have its downsides at times.
To the demon, she asked, "Where to? I'm not sure if there's anywhere she can feed and no, you can't burn anything." Alex could have smirked at the slightly crestfallen expression Zul wore, patting herself on the back for calling that smoking gun - no pun intended. "Not in here, anyway. Let's get your wares first, if that's okay, and we'll see what these lovely ladies would like to do thereafter. Okay?"
"Okay," Zul reluctantly agreed, turning his eyes towards Cordelia again at her seemingly shy motion against his arm. His chest suddenly felt swollen with laughter at the way she was acting, lifting his free hand to smooth some of her hair back and touch his cheek to her crown. "Dear Stormy," he chuckled in his light, smoky way, "lets get your ring."
He wanted to get her food first, but he also needed to talk to Ebony, and there was a chance he wouldn't be able to see them again if they left to feed Cordelia now. Zul didn't know if it was selfish to deny her sustenance in favor of telling her abilities to her Guardian, but if he could prevent harm in the future by speaking of it now, then he'd do what he had to. He had claimed her as his own, after all. The demon floated between the two women, situating himself next to Ebony and the femme on his arm next to his own woman. It was a start. "It's the shop just up the way," he pointed to the multicolored front that he could see even from their standpoint. "The clerk has our stuff."

The British woman snorted and waved a hand. "Don't be silly Alex. You are not holding us up at all. It's not your fault that I've let such an important thing slip my mind." She was thoughtful for a moment as she nodded towards Zul to lead the way. Cupping her chin with her hand, "Then again, it's hard to remember something needs fed when they don't have a stomach in which to feed with. And she's never shown any signs of being hungry from what I've seen. Though she doesn't speak, she's found very effective ways of letting me know just exactly what she wants, and when." Ebony smiled at this last part as Cordelia wasn't always patient when it came to the things she wanted, normally wanting it immediately rather than having to wait.
She watched as Zul's wings and face sank a bit at Alex's light scolding and couldn't help but laugh a little. It stopped when an idea hit her suddenly. "Oh! Maybe that's why she likes being by the fireplace so much. I thought it was because of the warmth, but perhaps Cordelia's been feeding off the smoke coming from it as well?" It made sense after all. If she remembered it right, a Raevan's essence is what determined what it was suppose to feed upon. So if Delia was smoke, she'd most likely need to that for nourishment.
Cordelia couldn't help snuggling closer to the demon before looking up and flashing him a huge, grateful smile. Zul was probably the best Raevan she'd ever met, though that number was still low and tainted due to the virus's influence. But that was fine, as long as Zul was by her side, she'd be content for now. She nodded cheerfully at the promise of going back for her ring. And maybe...maybe Zul's Rivener would then be her friend too.

Alex exhaled and smiled a bit at the mention of not knowing when they were hungry. Zul hadn't been his normal jaunty self since he recovered from the virus; she couldn't help but wonder if it had something to do with his eating habits. "That's true," she conceded, "but they know, and like you said, they're pretty good at conveying what they need." The woman's laughter was wholly welcome, making the Italian quirk a grin in return, almost inclined to join the mirth though it stopped before she could do anything.
The epiphany did make her laugh, nodding enthusiastically. "Maybe! That would make sense, wouldn't it? Huh." She gave Cordelia an appraising look, her smile small but fond. "It's win-win for her. Smart gal." Alex lowered her free hand to hook into her jeans pocket, the other loose at her side with her fingers curled around the handles of the large bag. "Let's go see what they found, huh? I don't think I've seen Zul take an interest in material things before." The last comment was more to herself than anything, though she looked over the Basilisk's head to give her charge a curious look as they moved onwards towards the shop.
Zul rested one of his wings around the femme's upper back above his arm, the other curled against his shoulder as they began to lead back to the shop. The demon turned his blue eyes to the side, observing Ebony as she seemed to have an idea of why Cordelia enjoyed the fireplace so much. "I can burn something...a receipt or flyer outside..." He tried not to sound too sullen at being reprimanded without even offering his idea, a guilty admittance that his woman knew him better than he would have liked to have admitted.
It also gave him a small opening he needed. Lowering his voice - mostly to keep the conversation between the gathered and not passerby's - he tilted his head and asked, "Has she shown any power to you, Ebony? Not the virus." Unlike any of the others, Zul didn't have a problem recalling the virus. It was part of his game to 'not remember,' but in truth, it hadn't disturbed him much to begin with, feeding off a natural instinct. If anything, it made him more endeared to those he'd encountered, save for Eirdirsceol.

"Yes, very smart indeed." Ebony murmured while taking a moment to eye her Frei as well. It made her wonder, if Cordelia was smart enough to understand most of what was being said to her and figure out how to survive as far as her essence and soul were concerned, then why was it so hard for her to speak with them?
She didn't get anymore time to ponder upon this burning question when Zul suggested his plan for helping the snake to feed. "Uhh..." Though it was a good idea to get Delia feed soon and very kind of him to offer his services, Ebony wasn't too keen on starting any kind of fires in such a public place, even if it was outside. What if caused a panic? What if someone reported them to the guards? No, the Brit couldn't have Zul getting in trouble just for them. With a touched smile, "That's very generous of you Zul, but...I think Cordelia can hold on until we get home. Then she'll have all the smoke she can handle."
Her smile faded some at the demon's question. Powers? It felt like such an odd thing for him to ask right then. What did that have to do with Cordelia's feeding? Nevertheless, the violet haired woman took a moment to think back. Shaking her head, "None that I can think of. None except those from the virus." Speaking of the dreaded illness once again caused an involuntary shiver to travel up her spine. It was still hard to think back to the events that followed her bringing her Raevan home. "Why do you ask?" Had something happened while the two had ventured off on their own?
His temperature seemed to be warming her up well and with it some of the serpentine femme's energy was finally coming back, though not completely restored just yet. But it would be enough to satiate her for the time being or at least until she could get back to her beloved fireplace at home.
When they'd arrived at the store, Cordelia let go of Zul's arm to float excitedly through the doors. Finally! She would have her ring! Or rather...she would have Rivener's ring. Whatever, the details did not matter for she would be getting her way as it should be. Smiling as sweetly as possible, the smoky girl slithered back up to the counter and held out her hand (the one still clothed in Zul's glove) to the clerk, an expectant shine glinting within those soulful grey orbs.

Green eyes turned over her charge and violet-haired companion, considering. It was unusual for Zul to position himself next to a human that wasn't someone he was immediately fond of - the list was limited to herself, her brother, Zeke and Anita. Sensing she was missing something, she gave them both a smile and followed after Cordelia so as not to leave the Basilisk on her own and give the male Frei some time.
The Italian leaned against the counter next to the female Frei, turning her eyes over the shop; if Zul was a human, she thought he might shop at a place like this. The thought tickled her, making her grin as the clerk came up to them, putting two rings into the gloved palm that Cordelia had extended. Alex lofted a dark brow, commenting in an amused and somewhat impressed voice, "My my, you two are quite friendly to be exchanging clothes and rings, aren't you." She was teasing, of course - she didn't actually expect Cordelia to understand or know about human marriage - but it made her laugh all the same.
She leaned closer to Cordelia, peering at the rings, and only then did she note that one of them was shaped like-- "A scorpion?" she exclaimed with surprise. Now that she could see the other, the pieces fell into place in her mind - but was Cordelia getting one for Rivener?
The demon only briefly glanced towards the two females as they dashed off to the store, his floating pace coming to a momentary halt. Turning to face Ebony, Zul crossed his arms over his half-formed chest, regarding her with a slightly serious expression. "Her arm was made into smoke," he explained as well as he could with his limited details on hand. "She went to get a ring and when she came back to me, she was tired and her arm was smoke." He uncrossed his arms to touch the tip of his spiked glove. "Here," he drew a line to approximately his elbow, "to here."
Zul turned his eyes towards the window where the ring had been, now empty. He was smart enough to figure out how to put two and two together, but not so much to say it out loud. "That's why she's tired. At least we were all here." The demon wasn't used to expressing worry, so it struck him as odd to say those words out loud as he floated into the shop again. He couldn't help but wonder - what would have happened if no one had been there for her to lean on, to warm her up?

Her heart tightened uncomfortably in her chest as Cordelia suddenly took off on her own then. Despite being rude and possibly offending the demonic Frei, Ebony was just about to chase after the girl when Alex waved her off and followed instead. Relief at knowing her charge was being well looked after, the Brit turned her attention back to Zul.
Immediately stopping when the other did, Ebony couldn't help but notice the very serious expression Zul wore now. Somehow the way his brows knitted tightly together and how his smile settled into that unfamiliar thin line as he crossed his arms over his chest just felt...wrong. It eluded to something older, darker. It wasn't at all the way Zul usually came off as. He must have been very worried about Cordelia, which touched the Brit deeply, though it didn't really show on her face.
"Hmm...well I can't say I'm all that surprised. After all, she's turned to smoke before." Her grey eyes went steely at the bitter memory of seeing the snake burst into smoke right before her. Ebony shook her head free of that encroaching sorrow to continue. "If we are correct in her feeding, then it must have a direct connection with that ability. Using it too much and feeding too little, it only stands to reason that Cordelia would tire easily."
Resuming their trek into the store that carried the rings both the Freis wanted, Ebony gave Zul a warm smile and lightly patted him on the shoulder. "Don't worry, she'll be fine. I promise."
When the employee gently placed the rings into her hand, Cordelia's entire face lit up like any of the thousands of tiny, twinkling lights just outside the shop. Proudly, she grinned and showcased them to Alex, not bothering to even think where her guardian and Zul were. Her excitement was just too great to care right then.
Just as the Italian woman had expected, the basilisk hadn't quite got the full meaning of her words, tilting her dark head to one side. She gave a painfully slow blink before following Alex's gaze to her still gloved hand. Oh! Perhaps she wanted her to return her ward's accessory? Well she supposed she'd had her fill with it then. Carefully, Delia juggled the rings (not once thinking to put them down) while removing the glove. With a girlish giggle she presented the glove to Alex, "Zul." She'd make sure he got it back okay.
A thoughtful look crossed her scaled face and she handed over the less elaborate looking ring to the woman as well. Chiming Zul's name once more before cradling the other. Cordelia just smiled and shook her head. "Rivener."

"For Rivener?" Alex repeated with pleasant surprise, an impressed smile warming her features at the simple, gentle way the femme had found her voice - and how she spoke names exclusively, it seemed. Her fingers curled around the still-warm glove offered to her, chuckling softly under her breath at the miscommunication that was still rather cute in its own right. Some Raevans were so sweet and pure in their innocent natures; she supposed she was lucky with Zul and his own brand of naivety.
Her free hand moved to accept the plain ring with the dark gem, murmuring a 'Thank you' before really looking at it. The Italian uttered a low whistle, dark brows lifting. It seemed her demon had good taste! Rubbing her thumb over the red stone to clean it of fingerprints, she turned her green eyes towards the scorpion-shaped ring in Cordelia's hand, grinning wide. "I think he'll like that a lot," she offered kindly, nodding to the ring the Frei held. "It'll look good on him."
The demon glanced up to Ebony at the hand on his shoulder, dipping his head in a nod. He had no doubt that she'd be okay - his brief meetings with Ebony before had reassured him that the Basilisk was in good hands - but he still wanted to help. He still wanted to take care of his Stormy. Zul's sky-cut eyes turned towards the femme in question, and with a wide smile, he floated over to her, resting his hand on her shoulder much as her Guardian had done with him just a moment ago. "He will like it," he confirmed, catching the tail end of his woman's words, "because it's from Stormy." How could he not?
He took the ring Alex offered him, letting her hold his glove for the time being, putting the titanium band on the glass counter. Now that the women were here, Cordelia could get her ring and he could pay for his and they could be on their way; after all, he still had shopping to do! He just wanted to get his most important gift first and foremost to make sure he had enough money for it. Zul mulled over the concept of human currency as he again accepted something from Alex's hands - a small pouch of his gold. He didn't have anything to carry it on himself with, as it wouldn't quite fit in his armband. Opening the small leather pucker, he began to count out the golden discs.
Alex glanced to Ebony and smiled at the violet-haired woman. Though they'd had a brief moment of panic over the two's whereabouts and Cordelia's lethargy, she had to say that it was the most productive outing she'd ever had with Zul. It was nice for him to choose to be responsible rather than to shirk their ideals for his own ends. "Looks like they both found something for Riv," she commented, attention slowly pivoting back to the Frei's. They had both grown significantly from the nightmare a mere handful of months ago, and she could not have been more proud.

At Alex's whistling, Cordelia became more curious to what Zul had gotten the Sigel. Sure it was simplistic, but still very beautiful as well. And somehow, it felt just like the exact thing Zul would pick for someone, anyone. Or perhaps it was the exact kind of thing Rivener liked.
Suddenly Delia doubted whether her gift measured up to the demon's and her brow creased in worry as she scrutinized her overly elaborate accessory. But doubt held little power with Alex and Zul around. Soon she was smiling happily again and nodded in agreement to both. Of course he'll like it. Who didn't like gifts? And then he'd like her and they could be friends too, like her and Zul were now.
Ebony hated to see Zul so...so torn in his emotions so to speak. She understood that he was worried, hell so was she, but didn't things like this have to progress naturally for Raevans? As they grew they'd eventually learn how to utilize their powers properly right? Not having any extraordinary or outlandish abilities of her own, Ebony had no previous knowledge on how to help, so wasn't it best if she just kept out of the way and let things happen as they should?
Finally joining the group, the Brit allowed all questions and concerns to lay aside for the time being. "I see..." And did she, a brow quirking at the two pieces of jewelry. The two certainly did have very different tastes, but given how much jewelry the scorpion wore, she was sure a few more in any style were right up his alley.
With her guardian finally rejoining them, the smoke Raevan floated over to her with an air of glee rippling through her ribbon. Not missing a beat, the ring dropped gracefully into the human female's hand and Ebony just as effortlessly paid for it.
It wasn't long before the foursome was back outside the store front, this time with their little trinkets in tow. "I'd better get Cordelia home so she can feed. I'm sorry our outing wasn't as long as we had hoped. Hopefully we can get together again after the holidays."
Hearing the note of farewell in her woman's voice, the basilisk understood it was time to go. This made the girl sad, noted by her pouting lips. Delia wanted to spend more time with Zul, but she was very tired and surely that wouldn't make for good company. So without fuss, the dark Frei simply patted the baphomet's cheek as well as his guardian's with her other hand.

Just like that, the main purchase of his day was done, and Zul was content with it. He tucked the plain box against his palm, refusing to give it up - he'd have to purchase a better nesting place for the ring, the garish gold simply wouldn't do - but he was satisfied. The demon dipped his head in acknowledgement of Ebony's claim of taking Cordelia home, which he could not disagree with, as much as he didn't want to see them leave. "Merry Christmas, Ebony," he smiled to the violet-haired woman with gratitude. She was taking care of his Stormy. He would be a fool not to like her for her dedication to the Basilisk.
Zul lowered his head a bit as the cool hand pat his cheek, lifting his own yet-bare hand to return the favor with a extra flicker of warmth. "Merry Christmas, Stormy. I hope you get all you want out of it." He didn't necessarily mean in a materialistic fashion, but he hoped, sincerely, that she would enjoy the holiday and be happy. She, above all, deserved that peace on earth, as far as he was concerned. "I will see you again." It was his solemn promise, a deal struck with the silent femme. Withdrawing his hand, he floated passively at his woman's side, knowing they were not yet done.
Alex was a little surprised at the farewell, but touched all the same. When Zul finished his goodbye, she too lifted a hand that wasn't quite as warm as his to brush her fingers over the Frei's cheek. "Be well, Cordelia. Merry Christmas sweetie." She turned her smile to Ebony, considering just waltzing over there and giving her a tight hug, but for this one instance, she maintained a cordial respect of personal space. She adored the violet-haired woman, but Ebony had never struck her as the touchy-feely type like she herself was. Instead, she simply offered her hand in farewell, smiling ear to ear. "And thank you for your time, Ebony. It was fun! We'll definitely have to do something in the new year." Quite frankly, she couldn't think of a better way to start it.
Farewells shared, the woman and her charge turned to head back into the throngs of people and deeper into the mall. Zul glanced over his shoulder, lifting his hand in fond farewell to the women before they disappeared in the mass of mall-goers and Christmas music, well wishes in their wake.
