I work in customer service, so I do it all day, essentially.

Except that I hate it when I do something nice for someone and it comes back to bite me in the butt. stressed

A mitzvah is one of the 613 rules laid out by the Torah.

Here's a full list: http://www.jewfaq.org/613.htm

That site has a lot more useful information available, too.

Depends on the day

I know this will sound kinda selfish...but if Im not in a good mood there is absolutely no way I can do anything good...so I just stay away from people so I dont do any anti-mitsvahs o.O

the most mitsvahs ive ever done in a day where like...3 maybe 4?

I figured she'd want the simplest definition possible to start with. JewFAQ.org is one of the first websites I started learning about Judaism from before expanding on various topics. smile

I'm glad my brothers don't go on gaia as much as they used to xd 3nodding
Jewish people are all brothers and sisters though 3nodding

Seriously though, I don't count how many I do a day. I try to do as many as I can but I just don't see the point in counting... sweatdrop

Though now that I look at the list I can see that I do a lot each day without even trying... Thou shalt believe in g-d? ninja

a mitvah is a commandment. it doesn't get any simpler than that.

and yes, judaism is very complicated. and it's beauty lies in it's complexity, much the same as with nature.

Complex yes, but not unexplainable. A mitzva is basically something you do, and you can get either reward or punishment for a mitzva. Mitzvot were commanded by g-d. There are positive mitzvot (mitzvot we should DO), and negative mitzvot (mitzvot that if we DO them, we get punished). This means that if you murder, you don't get reward, because murder is a negative mitzva. If you're not a murderer, t just means that you aren't doing a bad thing. If you were to murder, you would get a punishment. The absence of bad is not nessecarily good. G-d would give you reward if you saved someone from bring killed though, or if you didn't kill someone when you were even paid to do it.

The things that are mitzvot are listen in the torah. The tricky thing is, not all of them have the "prize" or the "punishment" clearly listed. The reward you get depends on the effort you put into it, not how many mitzvot you do. A good example for a mitzva is blessing hashem everytime you eat. You can reap alot of mitzvot that way 3nodding .

Is it even possible to keep count? wink
The Torah states that being good to the creations is a mitzvah, and treating your fellow man as you would yourself is also a mitzvah.
Holding back your temper is also one, as is being happy. and not worrying.
You can go through the day doing all these mitzvahs countless times, and many many more!
Its so easy, and each one means so much.
When I manage to hold my temper I feel like ive been rewarded with a pot of gold. smile
When I manage to make a friend happy their smile is the biggest reward ever
Even just not killing my little sisters when they turn my room unsidown is a virtue wink
Its very easy to do mitsvahs when you are in a normal state of mind. ^^
Why go searching for the mitsvahs that can change the world and strive and strive for them when you can do them in your own backyard, so to speak. Im not sayign big important mitsvahs arent worht it- they truly are! But one should never forget the importance of the small things too. 3nodding

you know, there is karma in judaism - it's called "gmul" (G-Moo-le). Good miztvot and their reward, bad mitzvot and their punishment are all linked with gmul biggrin . So if you like karma, you like gmul too! The great part is, gmul is both reward AND good treatment in return for your actions 3nodding

I don't keep count, but I try my best to be considerate to others.

I'm sure you do a lot more. Anything as small as holding the door for someone is a mitsvah. I mean, it doesn't say outright that holding doors for people is a mitsvah, but because you get reward for it, it technically is.

Controlling yourself from doing something bad is a mitsvah. Every time you decide not to yell at your sibling, you get reward.

Even if you do a bad deed, there's a difference between doing it automatically and thinking about not doing it, and then doing it. Let's say you're deciding whether or not you're going to eat at McDonald's for lunch. You don't want to because it's not kosher, but you want to because they have good burgers. Even if you eat there, you get a mitsvah for every second that you were considering not eating there.

So basically, I'm sure you do a lot more than 3 or 4 mitsvos per day.
