User ImageAnnie smile grew even wider as Sang greeted her and a fun sparkle mixed into her gaze at the offer of the sweets. "Of course I'll help you eat it haha I havent been able to get there myself with little mr show off tugging me around to find you." She laughed at the cross look that Inaki gave her as they headed towards a newly empty table. "Come on we'll sit here, they left it so they can find a new one later." Annabelle smiled as she indicated the young men and women who were leaving the table to dance. hey if they wanted to keep their table they would have stayed, whose to say they were even going to come back! Annabelle pulled back a chair and sat down with a huff, being tugged around by Inaki was hard work.

Inaki sat next to her as puffed up as he could possibly be. SEEEE Sang thinks I look wonderfull, even her deamon says so I'm BEAUTIFUL! Inkai flashed a toothy smile with his cheetah face that looked quite funny. Annabelle choked back a laugh and Inaki ddecided to ignore her. HE was still interested in Sange daemon who was still smokey and cool looking, he had to admit he kind of wanted to touch his nose to it but was resisting for politeness sake...even though he REALLY wanted to do it.

Annabelle noticed Sangs inexperience and smiled even wider, she remembered when she had first started going to balls and all that jazz when her mother had first taken her and how overwhelming it was. "hey Sang lets eat and relax, haha I'm sure someone will make a fool of themselves sooner or later and then we'll have a show!" She laughed. They would prabably go and dance later on Annabelle wanted to see what kind of studs this college would provide for her amusement.

Inaki looked up as he senses Annie thinking about boys, UGH BOYS!! he would rip any boy after his Annie apart....he did NOT want her getting all ooey and gooey over the first charming someone to come by, no he was on a mission to keep her FOCUSED when it came to school and staying single.

User Image Sawyer entered the hall with a flourish, ever the actress outside of class she was a sight to behold! of course since it would be the first time she was meeting her prospective students she had toned her outfit down to only one color and the only semi decent dress she owned. That is the only dress without a plunging neckline, no this was proper and she looked more like a lady if she stood still. Of course the way she walked and talked betrayed her rather partyesque personality and her vibrant smile. She looked around and made a beeline to the dance floor.

Ty flapped along beside her, he had originally been on her shoulder but when she decided to flourish and flounce he usually perched somewhere else secretly feeling embarassed about her overly crazy mannerisms. Do you always have to be noticed?! he sighed exasperatedly as he caught up with her and landed on her shoulder.

"Oh dont give me that Ty you know you LOVE to be around me! I am a teacher here, come on the students are bound to notice me anyway why not now when I'm all prettied up?" Sawyer gave Ty a winning smile and continued.

The small bird sighed and covered his face with a wing which was his equivalent of a facepalm. Yes yes I KNOW you like to be noticed but at least in class they will have some respect for you

Sawyer stopped and looked at her daemon "My students can think what they want of me ty all they really need to respect is the MATH the subject and its BEAUTY and dependability!"

Ty sensed a rant on the beauty of math coming on and not wanting his embarassement to get worse changed the subject rapidly. Why not eat first, some of those pastries look really good and you havent had a cherry tart since last season! Cherry tarts were indeed Sawyer and Ty's favorite treat and the thought of one was powerfull enough to bring sawyer away from thoughts of math and change her direction to walking to the buffet. "You know you could be right ty, glad I have you." She gave him a pat and he sighed.

Feeling a tug at his leg, Colt blinked and looked to his Daemling. "Something wrong?"

~Look, over there, talking to the blonde woman.~ The soft voice murmered in his mind as he scanned the area, blinking a little at who he saw there. "No... He couldn't be here..."

Turning to Priscilla, he smiled. "Kindly excuse me, for just a moment." He set his plate back at the table before approaching Saren. Was it really him? Well, it certainly looked like him.

"Saren?" Colt asked softly, hoping not to interupt the conversation, but he truly wanted to know if this was his old friend or not.

User Image Cilla finished filling her plate as Colton spoke. "Friends would be nice and a doctor is a very respectful occupation." But before she could start rambling she saw Colton look down and for the first time she noticed his daemling which he apparently was talking to, she was insanely curious as to who 'he' was but kept her mouth shut and politely nodded as Colton turned to walk towards another male.

"Well it seems he knows someone here after all." She muttered to herself before grabbing a drink and heading back to the table. Her tray shook slightly as she set it down on the table. She picked at the food absentmindedly, hoping she could meld into the wall.

He hadn't really wanted to come. Not only did he not know how to dance, or really 'mingle', his leg was sore tonight, and his hand wouldn't stop shaking. But the tiny voice in the back of his mind kept urging him to get on a tux, and try and be sociable. Unfortunately enough, he tended to listen to the voice.

He hadn't been here very long, at this place. From his parent's estate, he had moved to what amounted to a 'cottage' far away from human contact. As the month wore on, he was taken to this place by some mysterious benefactor he had yet to meet. Whoever the man or woman was... this was definitely a step up and out from his usual fare. Lonliness called to him sometimes, but he was learning to ignore it. More and more often, he found himself in social situations, without a real idea why he was there. But there he was.

The tux didn't fit him completely. Of course, the brace was outside of the clothing to offer support to an otherwise useless leg - and the hand on that side was clutching a cane. Not that it could have NOT clutched something... but he figured that it would cut down on the teasing factor if he just had a cane with him. The rest of the suit worked, but made him appear a bit odd. The black of the tuxedo simply enhanced the pale and sickly visage, as well as making it all too easy to see him. And also all too easy to notice the otherwise negligible difference between the color of one eye as compared to the other. He might as well have been wearing an eyepatch.

Giving a bit of a shiver, he made his way into the ballroom, and meandered over toward a shadowy corner. No one would see him there, and nothing would be revealed.

-I told you to be sociable.- that little voice whispered to him, giving him a mental nudge out toward the middle of the room.

He found himself crossing there, once again without knowing why. By now, not just his deformed hand, but his entire body, was shaking terribly in nervousness and fear. Were all those eyes... WATCHING him?... Was that woman's head concealing a snicker? Did that man have a sneer? The shaking increased. No matter how much he wanted to go back to that dark corner, something inside wouldn't let him - and he stood a bit away from the center of the room, inwardly cringing at every sound, and VERY sure that any conversations would be about that deformed boy in the center of the room. They always were, after all.

User Image Cilla finished her plate in complete silence. She glanced around and noticed that the night was passing nicely for everyone. The party reminded her slightly of the party her parents would be throwing. there had been nothing sweeter then watching her mother glide across the floor in the new dress her dad had given as an early present. A smile crossed her face as the memory faded. Her eyes wondered the room once again pausing over a couple here and a group there. Unusual movement in the middle caught her eye, it was a boy and he seemed upset. She didn't hesitate but got up from her seat and headed towards the boy, if he stood there awkwardly for much longer more people would notice him. She smiled sweetly as she made eye contact with the boy. She hoped he understood that she was trying to help and not run away. As she approached she noticed the brace and cane, she took note and decided to keep an eye out on the easiest escape route would be for them, even if it was to a table away from prying eyes. She stopped in front of him and gave him a courtly curtsy. "Evening,Sir. My name's Priscilla." She held out her hand hoping she didn't just turn a slightly awkward moment into a bigger one.

Seth jumped at the voice. Well, mentally and not physically. He wasn't CAPABLE of jumping physically. And he noticed said voice belonged to a woman. His face blanched of all available color, leaving him ghostly pale. A woman... Why a woman?

-Be sociable.- that little voice nagged.

Swallowing, he extended his good hand to meet hers.

"E-e-evening... Pr-Priscilla... M-m-my n-name is S-S-S-Seth..."

User Image Cilla's smile didn't leave her face. "It's nice to meet you,Seth." She let her hand drop to her side. "Would you care to come sit with me?" she indicated towards her table near the back.once could slide straight against the wall and reach it. Plus it was seated in a corner where they could see the whole room. "So far it's just me over there, and we could grab some food on our way." She wasn't sure if he could carry a plate and walk but since she'd already eaten she could take care of carrying it for him. She was impressed, it was her first big gathering and she'd already talked to two new people. A tiny bit of smug crept from the back of her mind and instinctively glanced to the mist at her side before turnning her attention back to Seth.

Seth offered a scared, timid little smile, and barely nodded his head toward the woman. Why did it have to be a woman? He was scared of women... But she didn't seem TOO bad... He steeled his nerves, and closed his eyes for a moment, before nodding again, more firmly.

"I'd l-l-love t-t-to..." he said, stuttering as per usual. "You'll have to p-p-pardon my sp-sp-sp-speech..." he explained, still shaking. "I have a t-t-tendency t-to st-st-st-stutter..."

Trying to bow wasn't the best idea in the world. He wound up overbalanced, and tipped forward, right onto his face.

User Image Cilla tried to catch him before he hit the floor but she just wasn't fast enough. "Oh my!" She went to her knees next to Seth. "Are you alright?! Here let me help you up." She gently bent down so he could loop his good arm around her neck so she could help him up. "i don't mind the stutter." A bright smile flashed on her face as she waited to help him up.

Normally she didn't go out of her way to get dirty but something about this boy screamed at her to help him. The mist now shifted to a wolf glaring at anyone rude enough to snicker or laugh.

He accepted the help, tears in his good eye. That had hurt. And it broke his brace. He'd have to order another one, or use the wheelchair. His cane had flown from his hand, and landed somewhere among the crowd. But right now he was in too much pain to care.

"Th-that h-hurt..." he said, wincing as he was pulled up. "P-p-perhaps I sh-shouldn't b-b-bow... anym-more..."

The tears trickled down the one side of his cheek, and dripped onto his suit. That voice in his head was offering wordless comfort, and it helped to calm him.

"I'm s-s-s-sorry for m-m-making s-such a m-m-m-mess of th-things..."

User Image Cilla stumbled slightly as Seth's weight was added to her. "I bet that hurt. I don't think we'll make it to my old table." She quickly glanced by and picked the closest table, unfortunately there were others sitting but right now she was more concerned with Seth's well being. "Yes, let's avoid bowing, perhaps a noble nod instead from here on out" she giggled softly. "Pish, you haven't made a mess out of anything."

She carefully pulled a chair out with her foot. and gently moved so he could slide carefully into it. She pulled a red piece form her dress towards his face and gently dabbed his tears away. Once the tears had subsided she let the cloth drop back. "Now that's better. I better go find your things before they get lost." She stepped away to let him finish gathering himself and set to finding his cane.

User ImageA tiny, squeak-like cough was all that gave one of the silent ballgoers away. She sat at a small table of her own, eyes dancing along with the music, taking in all of the sights. Wonderous decorations and a plethera of different people combined to make an enchanting evening. And, happily enough for her, not a single soul had yet bothered to approach her. A small, empty plate was the only company that she had. Well, other than a mousy frame swirling in silver mist.

"Sam.... Is this really any way to spend a party? Why not get out there and try to dance, hm?" The deep voice that popped into the red-headed girl's mind was ill-suited to his current form. Or, at least, she thought so. Perhaps that was one of the things that she liked about his dormouse form.

"Well, I don't really know anyone here... It's fun to watch, too." A hint of regret panged in her voice. It was true that she liked crowds, but this was a social occasion! Someone was bound to talk to her eventually, and she was dreading it; not to mention that she had no idea how to dance! After a moment, Samantha heard what she took as a squeak of resignation come from her daemling's direction. She returned the sigh, and began to stare dreamily into the crowd once more as she tugged on her scarf.

User Image Well, the ball wasn't so bad, despite all those formal gowns and tuxes flowing all over the place. As Benjamin Burrows walked in -late, as he often was- the first thing that he looked for was the buffet. He zoomed over, a whispy trail following his every step. It was time to get this party started!

"Whaddya think they got?" he asked his daemling rather loudly. At that moment she happened to be an otter, and so the look over his shoulder missed her completely. She was a gull a minute ago!

"I dunno. Whatever it is, just get booze with it!" In an instant, the otter shifted to a generally goat-like shape, a pair of horns peeking out of the swirling mist beside the loud lad.

"'O course!" the blonde boy laughed, the snowy lace at his chin rising and falling rapidly in a rather annoying manner. If Mrs. Burrows hadn't bought this frilly thing especially for him, he would've burned it already. The sleeves were chunky, there were too many buttons… The only thing he liked about it was the shade of blue. Oh well. At least it was tailored to him, so that he could move freely enough to dance... That would come after he ate, though! Rubbing his hands together greedily, he found himself a place in line from which he could begin to pick out his dinner.

User Image “Well, everything looks clear so far,” Gira grumbled, her long, brown feathers brushing against Errol’s hair as she sat perched upon his shoulder. She was more than a bit too big for that now; she had been for quite a while. But through her many avian transformations in the years long past, she had grown accustomed to this spot. And besides, her Errol didn’t seem to mind. Far from it, in fact, despite the size that came with her vulture form. However, when he held out his arm in a very familiar pose, she got down without the slightest complaining squawk.

“True,” the fifty-two year old teacher replied, bracing himself slightly to take her talons onto his arm. He hadn’t seen any real misconduct yet… Some boy had managed to fall over, but another student was taking care of that. Something had been lost, though, it seemed, for the girl seemed to be looking around. Certainly, she would find it on her own… Looking further, he noticed a few of his coworkers and a few more interesting students socializing. Nothing new, really. With a grumpy grimace on his lined face, he continued scanning the crowd.

“Maybe we should get some food.” The vulture daemon craned her long neck up and look at Errol, her hunched over posture temporarily interrupted as she leaned lightly towards the buffet for emphasis. “This might go by quicker that way…”

“Perhaps in a while, Gira,” he said quietly, patting her bill with his rough hands. For now, it was time to get a different view on the festivities. He decided to walk around to another side of the dance floor, taking the long way around so as to stave off the temptation to smack any horrid dancers should they step on his toes.

Taking a deep breath, Kitty stood just outside the door. Her hands shook slightly as they hovered over the door handle. Her bright blue eyes were shut, her teeth nervously nudging her lip.

Come now, that's not like you. Since when are you afraid of meeting new people? The quiet voice inside her mind spoke.

Opening her eyes, they wandered over to the hazy shadow floating just behind her left shoulder. I'm not... afraid. She protested silently, It's just... I don't want the memories to come back. What if I start crying in the middle of the ball?

Catharine Farrel-Porter. You have no reason to be afraid. I'm here, I'll protect you. He gently came closer, brushing an unidentified animal's fur over her cheek. Go in and just be yourself. Forget it's a Christmas ball, it's just a big party. It's your first formal ball, isn't it? Go have fun, don't let the past drag you down. Live in the present!

His soothing words comforted Kitty, and as a soft touch gently pressed against her cheek, she couldn't help but smile.

That's my girl.

She could feel the excited quiver coming from her daemling, he wanted to go in and see what was there. Was her past really so bad that she was afraid to go out and live? She'd never been that bad before. A spark of determination filled her eyes as she opened the door and walked in, hoping she wasn't too late.

Zarek jumped a little at the sound of Caitlin next to him, but relaxed considerably. He looked to the side, ashamed that the man had only gleaned his name from Caitlin's appearance. He felt so stupid, but the fear that made his heart pound had made his head fuzzy, and he wasn't feeling great, nauseous even! He held dainty fingers to his mouth and struggled to regain his composure. From the floor, Malhyanth looked up in his tiger form, a little worried. He shifted into the smallest form he had, a Brittanic blue tit, and moved himself into Zarek's lap. He eyed the jackle and the shifting Daemon of the other with apprehension, but acknowledged Caitlin's Daemon quietly.

'Hello. I remember smelling you in our room. Zarek hasn't let me say hello yet. I am Malhyanth. I hope you can help this situation. Perhaps get your human to describe these men to him? He isn't talking to me at the moment.' Malhyanth hopped over Zarek's lap, peering through his mist at the mist of the other. He seemed to be some kind of wolf, and Malhyanth felt the need to shift into one of his more impressive forms to show off to the other.

"Hello..." Was all that was heard from the suddenly stoic boy. He felt heat in his cheeks and up his neck. Caitlin had answered his prayers, and now he felt ashamed for subconsciously requesting her presence. He raised his head with a cough to clear the lump in his throat, and placed his hands tightly around his cane, food left on the plate, forgotten. Malhyanth tried to remind him of the food he could eat, but Zarek waved him off his lap, and the little blue tit flew up, circled his head a few times, then dropped down into the form of some kind of badger or weasle, large and thickly built, grumpy looking and aggressive.

"Pleasure as well, Mister Doric," Caitlin replied, eyes flicking to his before she lost her nerve and dropped them to the table. Oh, this was so annoying. She was in a dress, with people she barely knew, at a ball. She'd much rather be at the stables on a horse than here...even cleaning a stall than here.

"Tsk, Cait, enjoy yourself. It could be fun, you know." But she couldn't agree with him. Cayne, once he'd administered his two cents, looked up at Doric's daemon with a similar expression to his, then turned to Zarek's, misty tail wagging slightly at the friendlier greeting, though his change to a larger form slowed the movement. "Well, Malhyanth, it's a pleasure. I am Aarocayne, and I'll see what I can do." Then he emerged in his human's mind again, relaying the request. She analyzed it, considered it, and finally agreed to it. No harm, hmm?

"Hey, Zarek, do you want me to describe these two to you? It might help, you know." Without a confirmation, and supposing that since his daemon had suggested it, it would be all right, she started in, speaking in a low, quick voice. "Well, there's Doric, first; he's the one that just talked. He's got lighter brown hair, dark blue eyes, and he's mostly in black, but with golden yellow embroidery on his coat. White gloves, too. Tall and lanky, as well. His daemon's some sort of bird, a peacock, I think. Then there's another boy, with really light blond hair and medium blue eyes. He's tall, too. Brown trousers and shoes, with a blue vest and white shirt. He also has a bit of red ribbon and greenery pinned to his chest." She smiled slightly at this, but still felt a little out of place. She was a girl, considered of average or shorter height, and here she was at a table of three boys. It felt...well, a little awkward. "I hope that helps," she added, as an afterthought.

Aylana, of course, was not feeling at all embarrassed; rather, she was having a grand time. Though he was sometimes a little...odd, Colonel Callahan was certainly a fine date, and quite the gentleman. One white-gloved hand was on his arm, and her Harris hawk daemon, Kardamian, was on the other shoulder, glancing around with a similar expression to the lioness. His was not only searching for wrongdoers, though that was part of it. He was also just grouching about the occasion. Kar didn't much like having to sit on his human's shoulder all night, without the chance to stretch his wings or do something entertaining. He made this very clear by way of a short grumble.

"Oh, Kar, really? Do you have to act like that tonight? It's Christmas, for goodness sakes." If she had had an arm free, Aylana would have tapped him on the beak; as it was, though, he got off unscathed, though she did raise her shoulder abruptly. Then the Colonel was speaking to her, and she turned her green eyes to him with a smile. "Of course, thank you. I would take--" her mind wandered a bit, causing a short, warning "Lana!" from Kar-- "a glass of champagne, please." Satisfied with her choice to not get too drunk during the festivities, Kardamian ruffled his wings a little, turning his head to watch a group of girls pass, then looking forward again. He was lucky to not have gotten the same treatment as Bala, though Aylana had considered it a great deal.
