"You should be thanking him for not letting your head crack open," Mia commented to the boy.
She was getting sick of his demanding attitude, how tiresome she thought to herself the way he was.
"Not unless you promise to not wave it around at people, point it at other people or use it to threaten them," Lore replied as he set the boy on the ground and picked up the sword, "I don't know what sort of life you've lived but you really need to change a bit."
He wondered how the boy got a sword so small as he studied it, it was certainly good quality.

Vergil scrambled to his feet and glared up at Lore, ignoring Mia for now. "If people would just answer my questions," he seethed, "I wouldn't have to use it in the first place!"
He stamped his foot like an impatient child throwing a temper tantrum. "Give it back! That's mine!"

"Mia has already told you, that she doesn't know anything about the demon population. They live like every day people here and while I doubt the population is large," Lore told the little boy, "It is not like they are gathering anywhere in the city."
He then paused for a moment and looked at him.
"And it would help if you didn't always demand your answers, and please would be very nice too."
Heavens he thought, he must be raising children for too long, he normally didn't interact with children like this.

Vergil glared up at Lore. "Easy for you to say, you don't have to say please for anything!" he growled. "All you have to do it grab someone by the leg and hold them upside down!"
Clearly he was still sore about that, even if it had saved him a headache.
"If I were as bag as you, I wouldn't have to say please either!" he went on. "What do you think of that?"

"Now how do you know I wouldn't say please?" Lore pointed out to the boy kindly, "It's good manners to say please and thank you."
Honestly, he was starting to sound like the boy's father.
"Demanding things from people puts them on edge, it makes them upset, and uncooperative because they come to think of the person as rude or pushy. It wouldn't matter the size people wouldn't be happy if I demanded things of them."

"Well that's just what you did," Vergil challenged the tall man. "You took Yamato from me and you hung me upside down and you keep telling me to do all these things, and the only please you said was to tell me to say please, you didn't even say it yourself!"
He held out his hand, scowling. "Now give me Yamato back!" he growled. "It belongs to me, not you! Or are you a thief, too?"

"You should have let him crack his head open," Mia told Lore bluntly.
She really didn't like this boy, at first she was sorry no one taught him better but now she just didn't like him at all, but he was too little for her to do anything about it. It would not be nice of her to do something to a little boy.
Lore sighed, "I took your sword because you were pointing it threateningly at me, but..."
He bent down and handed Vergil back his sword.
"I will give it back to you, but be warned. If you start pointing it at people like that again I will escort you out of this library. I will not have someone like you threatening the people in here."

Vergil grabbed the sword away from Lore, but rather than sheathing it, he cradled it in his arms and hugged it as if it were his best friend.
"Have nowhere to go," he murmured, much calmer now that his sword was back in his possession. "If you take me out I won't go anywhere." He sat down and rocked back and forth slowly, still hugging his sword.

Lore sighed he wasn't sure what to do but was feeling certain he couldn't keep up with this boy's rollercoaster emotions. One moment he was acting like a stubborn mule who insisted on getting his way and then the next he was like a little boy.
"Where did you come from?"

Without a word, Vergil pointed at Lore's bag. Where he had come from before that ... another bag, and another bag before that, even. How many bags he had traveled in, and how far he had traveled from his initial home, he had no idea, and he had no clue that he was no longer in the world he had been born in.

Lore blinked at his bag a few times, "If you don't mind me asking... where did you come from before you got into my bag."
Since he was obviously not one of the Winters children, no one would be like that, perhaps a bit violent like Mia but not quite like Virgil.

Vergil had to think about it for a moment. "Another bag," he replied with a shrug. "And before that was another bag ... and another bag ... and another ... I don't know how many bags. I don't know how to get back where I came from though."
He hugged his sword more tightly. "And there's nothing there for me either," he added sadly.

"You must have been very lonely," Mia murmured.
She looked sad, because she thought that was a sad thing. People should have family after all, but the Second World had become a desert zone as far as the other family members were concerned.
"Must have been one of the children," Lore murmured since they were the only ones who could have brought him here, "So... you were looking for demons to live with?"

Vergil looked up at Mia and Lore, glancing from one to the other and back again.
"I used to have a brother," he offered hesitantly, "but ... we parted ways ... and ... I ..."
He shrugged. "I am of the demon family. Where else could I go? Who else could I turn to? The humans deserted me, the humans who I should have been able to count on, and the demons ... the demons that we hunted ... they showed me that I was one of them ... I could fit in with them ..."
His grip tightened on his sword. "I will find them!" he swore. "I Will find my new brethren, and I will begin a new life with them!"

"So.... then you know which demon family will take you in?" Lore guessed.
It was becoming really obvious that Vergil hadn't quite thought this through. You couldn't simply go up to a demon and demand to live with them, looking after a child was a great responsibility.
Mia gave Lore a look, it was obvious the boy needed to learn how to think on top of being less demanding.
