"Do they look like they're plotting something?" she asked Smerdle jokingly. "One can only wonder what these kids come up with." She turned her head toward the pair as the walked toward the front of the shop.

"Hi Mom!" Rhea said, waving to Elysia as she half-skipped toward the chairs where the pair of women were talking. "We just finished our game of hide-and-seek. It was pretty fun! Sylvester had a great hiding spot. I couldn't find him for the longest time."

Before she got all the way to the women, she focused on the baby with the murderous wings, pushing her thoughts outward. "How about you? Do you like hide-and-seek Brownie?" she asked the baby, her inner voice sounding a bit scary--on purpose of course. She smiled as she finished her sentence, wondering how the kid would react...Rhea was always curious if people would try to talk back to her. She thought that anyone could use telepathy with lots of practice. It was a matter of tuning your mind to a different frequency. And if someone even tried to talk back, Rhea was sure she'd be able to pick up some of their response, even if their psionic abilities were minimal. All people give off brainwaves...it was just a matter of finding them.

Smerdle quickly nodded to Elysia before smiling at the kids. "Hide and seek is a pretty fun game. I'm afraid it's not too fun for me now, being so big and easy to spot, but I used to play..."

Brownie had stopped poking her own leg and her eyes had been barely open for a couple of minutes now. She was far away from dreaming, but suddenly she heard a voice in her head and snapped awake. It was like some sort of demon, some sort of scary, scary demon that she shouldn't be afraid of. She was Brownie, after all, and she wasn't afraid of anything! "No!" she said, out loud and probably in her head too. "No no no no no no no no!"

"What's wrong with you?" Smerdle said, pulling Brownie's arms away from her face and trying to look her in the eye.

"Nooooo!" Brownie ended the shriek by biting down on Smerdle's forearm. Luckily, it was encased in sweatshirt, so she didn't do much of anything. She flopped back against Smerdle's lap, crossing her arms and huffing angrily.

Sylvester gazed on in awe as his cousin flipped out. So that's what an insane baby looked like. "Brownie?" he asked tentatively.

She fixed him with the evil eye and stuck out her bottom lip. The Shattered knew Sylvester had something to do with this.

"Yeah, it gets harder when you get bigger," Rhea agreed. "Sylvester's pretty tall, but he managed to fit between two boxes!"

She giggled as Brownie broke out into a hissy fit, turning to look at Sylvester and see his reaction. "What's wrong with her?" she asked the giraffe Tale, trying not to bust out laughing. Rhea was a dead-giveaway. She was gonna be the kid that got everyone else in trouble.

"Well, she certainly doesn't look happy," Elysia said, focusing her attention on the baby, but seeing Rhea and Sylvester out of the corner of her eye. It was them, wasn't it? "Are you okay Smerdle? Man, she can bite!" she exclaimed, checking out the baby-sized bite marks on Smerdle's sweatshirt. "Looks like it's about nap time."

Oh right. He was supposed to be acting innocent. Sylvester smiled a bit too big and said, "I don't know, Rhea."

"I think so," Smerdle said, glancing at Sylvester. "Nap time. We should go home."

"Mamaaa." It wasn't a very long whine, but it was there. It looked like their plan for some fun at Brownie's expense had backfired.

Rhea snuck a smile to Sylvester. "You really have to go?" she asked, with just a tinge of whininess. "Well, we'll hang out again sometime. You're really fun Sylvester!" She reached up and petted his neck one more time--for good meausre.

"We should get home too. It's getting late, and it's quite a trip back." She turned to the other woman and smiled. "Anytime you want to get out of the house, give me a call. We'll go out and have a night on the town or something," she laughed. "Or if you guys ever want to come swimming, the beach is right out the door." Elysia picked up their coats and ushered Rhea into hers, zipping her up tightly. "It was lovely to meet you both. It's been a really pleasant afternoon." She gave Brownie a light tap on the nose, and Smerdle a pat on the shoulder.

"C'mon Rhea, ready?"

"Yep." she answered, turning back to the pair. "We'll hang out again soon, okay?"

"You're fun too," Sylvester said. He doubted he would ever get another chance to play such a cool game of Hide and Seek. When she pet his neck again, he held still, not knowing how to reciprocate. He supposed just letting her do it was enough and he smiled a bit in response.

"See you soon!" Smerdle said. She waved with her free hand, now that Brownie had resettled, but didn't make the toddler do the same like other parents. Not that she was against puppeting kids around when they were being sulky, she just didn't want to open herself up to injury.

Sylvester waved like his mother and nodded at Rhea. He was sure they would have a chance to hang out in the future. It had to get warm again someday, right? "Bye!"
