Bruises Stage: Messenger Reborn
When friends are close, their bonds run deeper than past pains we have suffered. They bind us and guide us to those important things we must know and find for ourselves. Even if those are things we don't want to face.

What is Innocence? Stage: Messenger Reborn
Facing our fears is the only way to conquer them; running solves nothing but to lead us in circles. Are the ties that bind strong enough to endure a betrayal far worse than abandonment?

Herald 11.28.07
Already, your Herald has gone through many experiences. His/Her time with you has begun to shape and mold the child. Yet, there are many experiences to be had.
Your Herald has been asked to do something not yet asked of it before. S/He isn't sure how to go about the task.
What is the task? How does your Herald go about to accomplish it? Does s/he come to you for help or does s/he try to do it alone? How does your Herald react to such a difficult task?
It had been almost a full year since he had returned to the sanctum after telling his former Guardian what his Message had been. As he had suspected she did not take it very well; throwing him out with only a few articles of clothing and a smack to the cheek to remember her by. For such a young child it was beyond difficult to fathom what life had in store for Nikolai next but there was something he had come to feel despite all the hardships beset on him by his numerous adversities.
Relief.
Though the sting in his heart was always likely to be a presence felt when looking back on what he'd left behind, Nikolai had made his choice and did not regret it. He was no longer a burden to anyone; to the one who had taken him in, to his friends still lingering in the world of humans, or to whatever Creator had sent him to deliver a message to begin with. He was his own being for sure now, Nikolai had assured himself.
Laying in his usual place in the sun with nothing more than his khaki shorts on the boy was none the wiser of the cold of the human world. He stared at the twinkling stars over his head circling 'round and 'round ever so serenely. One in particular caught his eye of a faint purple hue that pinched his brow together between his eyes. The color was familiar to him; bringing back memories of a friend that hadn't spoken to him in a very long time. Since then his hair had grown longer and his wings more whispy; color that had clung to his hair had all but drained out the ends it seemed.
It had been a long time since he was struck with loneliness.
The almost forgotten pang of hurt struck a bitter note on his heart strings. Nikolai wasn't even sure he could go back, or if he even remembered how to do so. Sure there was an enclave of stones set in a ring that was the portal back but Nikolai wasn't certain it would work. Dare he even show his face back in that world?
With a deep sigh the boy rolled onto his side and curled up into a ball childishly in the heather of the hill. He wanted so very much to see his friends at that moment, to hug them, to let them know he was still alive. Guinevere no longer came to see him, Rand hadn't come ever... And there was no way to see them without going back. He whined quietly, closing his eyes tight and imagining them sitting there with him with all his might. Nikolai couldn't, wouldn't, go back to the Human world. There was simply no place there for him any longer....

Solitude had taught Nikolai many things, but no matter how he tried to deny it his loneliness pained him greater than it had before. There was absolute peace at the Sanctum, but while he could enjoy the Eden there was no one to share it with; not even the ghostly apparitions of animals offered any solice of companionship.
He had stubbornly tried to overcome his need of company, the burning thirst for someone to speak to, but in the end it was all in vain. Resolving to set out into the world once again for the sake of sewturing in some small way the ripped seams over a wounded heart in the world of humans.
He wouldn't be gone long at first, no no-- he wasn't kidding himself. Nikolai knew how the people there could be from how his former Guardian had treated him when she learned of his message. The most he could hope for was a familiar face and that they might recognize him...
Now was the time to put aside his fears.
Nikolai stood before the portal between the Sanctum and the Human World. Backpack slung over his shoulder, the Herald was bundled up for the cold winter weather awaiting him just on the other side. With a deep breath Nikolai let it out slowly and spread his wings, offering an experimental flap before stepping onto the slab of stone.
There was no turning back now...
