I cant pick just one XP and I dont watch a ton of anime, but Toboe from Wolf's Rain, and since Tales of Symphonia was made into an anime I get to say Lloyd Irving heart Renji Abarai, Bleach (mainly played the video games, I only watched a couple episodes, but I figure hes from an anime so I will post this one too)

I don't know it's tough to pick a favorite. I'd have to say Naota from FLCL since he's the only anime character I've seen actually emotionally change throughout a series. When I say change I don't mean like the usual I'm gonna go do this cause this guy killed that guy, I mean his personality changes through life changing events, like a normal person. I've yet to see another anime actually have a main character develop so well and pull it off.
