"An' if I'd rather stay here wi' you, what then? You'll hae your parents throw me out?" Rory asked, not budging. He wasn't looking at her anymore. He didn't want her to see how he was trying to hold back his own tears. All he could think was he'd done something wrong. Was she this upset with him about the fight or the accidental slip of forgetting protection during their love making? He wrapped his arms around himself, feeling a little chilly suddenly. "It wouldnae be home wi'out you."

Lee's hands folded into tiny fists to keep her fingers from shaking anymore than they already were. "N-n-no. I'd... I dunno." What would she do? Probably kiss him, then feel more than a little guilty and break up with him. "I'm sorry... but I want you to go back." A small tear couldn't help but trail down her cheek, the girl moving quickly to wipe it away. He hadn't seen that, had he? She kept her voice as unemotional as possibly throughout, figuring if this didn't work, she'd have to try a different method.

"Then . . . then you'll hae t' hae me thrown out," Rory said, voice cracking a bit. He wasn't able to hide his tears anymore, not sure what he'd done to make her hate him. "I wonnae leave o' me own accord. I tol' you I'd ne'er leave you."

Lee whimpered louder, looking up at Rory and feeling her heart stop beating for a moment. Leaning forward, about to reach out and kiss him until he couldn't breathe, she held herself back, folding her arms and lowering her head, trying to look like she'd already made up her mind. Well, she had, but for different reasons. "Would you leave if I told you this was about what happened with Lydia?" That was the biggest lie she'd ever told, but if that would get him to leave, then so be it.

Rory made a pathetic whimpering sound, his sobs starting to come a little harder. "I didnae hae control o'er tha'." He seemed to almost collapse in on himself, bringing his knees up to hug against his chest, balling up as he cried. "Why did you make me think you were alreet wi' it an' keep me here longer?"

Lee's whole body began to shake, and finally, she, too, began to sob, shaking her head passionately. She fought with herself as she inched forward, hesitantly moving back before clinging to Rory, wanting anything but this. It wasn't worth it, to see him cry. "I-I w-was lying, I am okay with it. Rory, you didn't do anything wrong. Nothing! You're perfect and wonderful and the best person ever. I just--! I just want you to leave, Rory. I want you to try to meet someone better than me." Don't cry, Rory. Do anything but cry.

The boy reached a hesitant hand out, moving so he could hug her to him, still crying, face buried against her neck. The tears weren't just from what Lee had said, though, some of them were from realizing how much he'd been a victim to what Lydia had done. Finally, he managed to whisper, "Who could possibly be better than you?"

Lee shook her head, holding him against her, her tears starting to fall a bit less heavily now that Rory was close again. "Everyone," she answered, closing her eyes tight at the thought. He made breaking up with him too difficult to do it. "Why won't you let me leave you?" She already knew the answer, she just wanted to make it clear that she still thought it would be for the best.

"I love you," Rory said, voice still a bit shaky from crying. "There ain't anyone better'n you. Nae one at all." He moved a bit so he could look at her. "Is it not enough t' love you an' want you t' be happy? I can do more. I can ask your da fae a job at his company t' give you a fancy life like this. I can sell th' cottage an' buy a home here outside an' learn t' get rid o' me accent. I'll do whatever it takes t' make you happy, just donnae ask me t' leave you. I cannae do it."

Lee pulled the boy close again, kissing him, then pulling him away for a moment to speak. "Don't." She kissed him again, continuing to pull away to speak before resuming. "Don't say that." Kiss. "I love the cottage." Kiss. "I want you to stay at the stables." Kiss. "And I'd kill you if you got rid of your accent." Kiss. "You're perfect as you are. I'm already happy. I just want you to stay happy. I dun want you to end up hating me. And I dun want you to feel pressured to stay with me for any reason." Wait, had she just admitted the real reason for doing all this? Not even she had realized it before just then, but... this had everything to do with the possible pregnancy, didn't it?

Rory chuckled a bit at the kissing, despite himself. "I am happy wi' you. I donnae see any reason not t' be. I ain't pressured t' be wi' you. Just stop tryin' t' throw me outta your life. Nothin' could e'er happen t' make me wanna leave. Obviously, or I'd hae done it by now."

Lee shook her head, pulling away from him. "Because I dun ever do anything to help you. When I try, I just make things worse." Like right now, for instance. "I love you, though. I think that's the only thing I do right." She frowned, wishing she was the girlfriend he very much deserved.

"You donnae make anythin' worse. This ain't a fairytale, Lee. It ain't suppose t' be perfect. W're gonna fight an' w're gonna hae a lot o' good times, too. Tha's just how relationships work," Rory said, stroking her cheek. "You e'er think tha' maybe I'm th' one tha' donnae deserve you? You're beautiful an' rich an' smart. I'm just a poor didikoy tha' works in a stable. How in th' hell wis I so lucky as t' hae you fall in love wi' me?"

Lee searched for the word she was looking for for a moment. "Those are all superficial qualities. Everything that makes me a good catch is useless, if this isn't a fairy tale, like you said. You have some of the superficial qualities, too, but that's not why I love you." He was attractive beyond belief, which, admittedly, is what caught her eye, but that's not why she fell for him.

"Then what is it you love about me?" Rory asked, rather curious now.
