The sound of angry spirits caught Antony's ear and he raced forward, peeking around the corner of a building to see what was going on. It looked like a cloud of spirits around the large starmaker. They were screaming and trying to hit him with everything they had, but Chris didn't seem to notice. He was staring into the sky.
Carmel was being held by a teenage spirit, and screaming her head off. "NO! NO! NOOOO!!" she bellowed. "PUT ME DOWN! PUT ME DOWN! PUT ME DOOOOWWWN! I'M NOT GOING IN THERE!"

Great. Just great. Touda thought to himself with a sigh. Although the situation was desperate and he wasn't sure how to go about getting Carmel, that thrill at the danger and excitement was still there. It seemed there was only one kind of approach in this situation. The direct one.
The boy shifted effortlessly into his mononoke form and got a running start, leaping onto Antony's back and then off his shoulders, aiming his furry body at Carmel and the spirit. As he took off, he gave Antony a wicked grin. "See ya on the flipside!"

Antony plunged his sword into the chest of the nearest ghost, then twisted, killing another one. "Don't let her drop!" he yelled after the mononoke.
"Give me my sister back!" Chris bellowed, his tail lashing around wildly. Unbeknown to him it sent a good deal of the ghosts flying.
"Chris?" Carmel said, finally noticing her brother. "Let go of me!" she said, squirming. When it didn't work, she got angry again, focusing on the idiot ghost that was holding her. "I. Said. Let. GO!" she bellowed, shoving at his chest.
Red light came from her tiny hands, shooting through the ghost and making him disappear. Without him holding her Carmel dropped, her eyes widening and a scream starting.

Leaping through the air, Touda caught the neck of Carmel's shirt with his teeth as they both fell towards the ground. With a low growl, he shifted mid-air into human form, grasping the angry toddler in his hands. He landed on his feet, hitting the ground with a stumble. Sparks flew from under his shoes, fires trying to start but dying before they got anywhere.
"It's okay. I've got you." He muttered to the girl, his voice low as he looked around them. They'd landed safely, but not unnoticed and a number of ghosts were now beginning to circle the two of them, cutting them off from Chris and Antony.

Chris, unseeing, barged through them as if they weren't there and grabbed his little sister from the demon. Promptly seeing his big familiar chest, Carmel burst into tears.
"We're leaving," he said, walking on one hand as he held the toddler to his chest, effectively protecting her from anyone that dared to get close. "You two can deal with whatever's still here."
"Thanks for the vote of confidence," Antony muttered. "But I think we should--" He grabbed for Touda. "Run!"

"Good idea!" Touda took off after Antony and Chris, running hard. He looked back over his shoulder once, the ghosts were milling around buzzing in angry confusion. At least they weren't being chased. Yet.
After a few blocks, Touda felt safe enough to slow down, breathing heavily. "That was an adventure." He said wryly to anyone who was bothering to listen.

"That," Antony replied, "is what the old lady was talking about." Then he did something he very rarely did. He cursed. "And it's going to get bigger."
