quote:
That reminds me of a Robin Williams joke where he's talking about those people "that knock on your door at 6AM on Sunday that say, 'Have you found Jesus?' And you just want to answer the door nude and say, 'No, help me look for 'im! Come on!'" xDDDD

okay sweatdrop not that i am proud of this but i answered the door for a jahova witnesses (elderly couple- my first time dealing with this ) all i had on was a really long white t shirt that came just above my knees and my hair was in a towel ( they turned and left abruptly before i could wip my bible out and share my faith with them then i realized what i was wereing and well they never came back)

Actually the should not be preaching from door to door, its rude and annoying, if they want to preach they should do it among other people who share the same faith

Well... going door-to-door is part of their faith. They're not called Witnesses for nothing, y'know. smile A huge part of Christianity is to go to your unsaved neighbors and tell them the Word of the Lord and tell them Jesus' story. If they didn't do this, they couldn't really call themselves Witnesses.

Anyway... I have had Witnesses come to my door before, and I usually just tell them thanks for stopping by, but I already have a good thing going with the Powers that Be. I assure them that if I ever have questions I'll come and ask them, but I let them know that I'm definetely not interested. Once, a whole van-load of them came to my house on Halloween just as I was getting in my car. I'm wearing cat ears and a t-shirt with a cartoon Samantha Stevens riding a broom over the words "feelin' witchy", and my car is covered in pagan bumperstickers. I was open and friendly, and they looked at me like a feral cat that might bite their fingers off. XD

I used to have a friend who was a Witness, and I always found it so strange that she never recognized any holidays or would take part in class parties or school festivities. Later, I learned that while many Christians take part in holidays that have pagan origins, Witnesses abstain for that reason.

And can I just say that when Christians come in to my store looking for plastic eggs and fabric covered in bunnies and chicks to decorate their churches, I'm mentally laughing like a lunatic? "So, to celebrate the ressurection of the Son of God, you're going to decorate with symbols of fertility? AWESOME." XD And for the record, I used to be Christian, so no flamin', yo. smile

I've always wanted to answer the door with a holly crown and an athame. "Hmm... Christ, you say? Well, c'mon in! We just happen to be celebrating the rebirth of the Sun God, and well, you mentionin' the Son of God and all, it just sounds mighty similar, so c'mon in, have a seat! We'll bring you some wassail and scones and have a mighty fine time!" *lulz*

The whole missionary thing is actually a good way for churches to grow. It works pretty well.

I just hate it when they come door to door trying to tell me what to believe, they are so pushy (at least the ones we have around here). But my dog tried to kill them, so they avoided this house ever since.

Actually in all honesty, I believe "God" is rightly placed in the pledge of allegiance. This country was founded on the basis of Christianity. The people who founded the country intentionally wrote God in on all the documents they did. It rightly belongs there.

I just don't say the pledge. I got yelled at back in high school for not standing and saying the pledge.

OK LISTEN, IMA TELL YOU A SECRET!!

Hehe, ok, maybe not a secret exactly, but I can tell you EXACTLY how to get Jehovah Witnesses to leave you alone for good, with a few simple words.

My mom's side of the family are Jehovah Witnesses, so I know a bit more about it then most people that aren't of that religion. Fortunately for me, my mom herself broke away and I never had to grow up dealing with it (beyond only th slightest bit of influence from my Grandma and aunts).

Anyway, here's what you do- they come to your door preaching, and all you have to tell them is you were expelled from the religion. They will SHUN you! Never bother you again xD
In fact, it will likely become known to the whole Jehovah Witness community in that area, that you were expelled, and none of them will ever talk to you again ever.

Then again... telling them you had no time to listen because your gay lover was waiting for you in the bedroom might work too.... >>

Well... it probably would work... They would like, think if you were gay you would automatically have AIDS and spread it like the flu -_-

At least, that's basically how my aunts acted when they learned my mom had had a gay friend over like, earlier in the week and wouldn't even sit on the couch that he might have sat on....

Actually "In God We Trust" wasn't added until the 1950s because of the Red Scare, aka Communism. They associated being Atheist with being Communist.

Before that, Bellamy's original Pledge read, "I Pledge Allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all."

And almost all of America's Founding Fathers were Deists, not Christian.
