"Ssussun..." Mikaril tried the name out to ensure he pronounced it properly; after pulling Kyil into her wagon, which to his dismay was smaller than he had first anticipated, and putting him in her bed, the least he could do was correctly pronounce her name. He cleared his throat and nodded as he saw her turn away from the pair to rummage around in a chest. "I am honored to meet you, Mistress Ssussun." As he saw her returning to place the heavier blanket over Kyil, he gave her a look of pure gratitude before turning back to Kyil and fussily arranging the blanket so that his friend was secure. He was secretly hoping for the same thing Ssussun was; the female had been so tolerant with letting him keep a sick drow in here; she hadn't seemed to recognize what was wrong with Kyil, so for all she knew, he could have a contagious illness, one that would infect her whole house and bring the circus to it's knees. Still, he would gladly pay for anything his friend would soil if it came to that.

He gave Ssussun another grateful look as he sat down on the stool, edging it closer to the head of the bed before doing so. He fully intended to keep an eye on Kyil for as long as it took before the healer woke up. Smiling, he patted Kyil's covered shoulder.
"We'll just wait for the healer to decide what it was, though you have to admit, this whole thing is peculiar. After all, I had the same food and the same wine and nothing of this sort happened to me. You're way too tough for something like a little bit of strong wine to affect you like this. I bet anything it's just a bug you caught from being around too many drow in the tent or something. But in any case, you ought to be looked at. Now get some rest, and no more about you being a burden, because you aren't." As though anticipating a retort from Ssussun, Mikaril turned on the stool and smiled a small smile at her. "I'm prepared to take full responsibility, Mistress. If anything will need replacing after tonight, I will replace it, or compensate you in a way that you see fit." He took a deep breath before continuing. "And....I want to thank you again, for helping us. I know we're no different to you than any other drow that come to see your performance, but it means a lot to me that you would even consider helping us out."

Kyil settled a bit more into the bed as the second blanket was tucked over him. A faint smile curled his lips at the added warmth. Still, that smile faded away as Mikaril would mention the peculiarness of his illness. "I suppose you are right. Perhaps I really have just picked up a illness of some sort. It came on so quickly though...doesn't it normally take time for these things to happen?" Kyil both asked and mused aloud. Still, Mikaril urged him to rest, and so Kyil attempted to sleep again, which turned out far easier then he expected. Almost instantly Kyil's breathing deepened as his surpriseingly exhausted body accepted the comfort of the bed and he drifted back off to sleep

Ssu leaned back against the side of the wagon and half closed her eyes while she listened to the exchange between Mikaril and Kyil. The pair seemed..weird. As far as she could tell. Well. maybe not so weird. All she had to do was think about how close the members of the circus were at times. But no. There was definatly something more to them then just that. When Mikaril turned back to her to speak again, Ssu opened her eyes a bit more and paid him a bit more mind. "Just...Call me Ssussun." She spoke after a moment. "Mistress is the title of a priestes...or a House Noble. I'm neither of those things." He said he was no different from the others..and Ssu could only look at him with a slight tilt of his head. Oh he was different all right. She supposed she should not be surprised that he was unaware of just how different really. If he was aware of it then that might have meant that he was conning her. So his honesty came from his plausibility in this situation. Strange, and here she had thought she'd seen just about all sorts of men in the world at least once by now.

Ssu pulled her robe a little tighter over her shoulders and nodded her head towards Kyil. "So then...what are you going to do if he is really ill? Do you have a means to take care of him properly? I'm assumeing you do not have a drow in the city you trust enough to seek further healing aid from if you brought him to a relative stranger on the slim hope I would not take advantage of your situation."

Mikaril smiled wearily as he saw Kyil's eyes close and his breathing become slower and more rhythmic. Now if he could just make good on his promise to himself and stay awake until the healer came to see his friend. He found Ssussun a welcome distraction from being drowsy, and he found himself mentally reeling over how she had given him permission to call her something other than her title. It wasn't every day that you met a female who would allow you to call her by her first name, especially after bringing her a sick drow who might ruin her bedding.

He pondered Ssussun's questions for a minute, though the answer seemed so clear. He honestly didn't know what he would do if it turned out to be something serious, but he did know that he would do anything to make his friend well again, even if it meant giving himself up to Lolth.
"Well, we don't have much more than a dry, moderately safe cave to stay in, but anything the healer says must be done to make him well, I'll do it. He means more to me than anything and anyone, and I know he would do the same for me.....he HAS done the same for me." He looked over at his friend, so apparently peaceful, and he had to blink away a sudden blurriness in his eyes. It had taken so much from them both just to get away from Hael, and to have him be struck down by an illness, something that seemed so trivial in comparison.....he imagined with the heartbreak he would endure, he wouldn't last much longer than his friend.

Again he found himself pondering about just why he had been so adamant about coming to this female instead of a proper healer. Sure he had used the possibility of a familiar circus-related ailment as an excuse, but wouldn't a healer be able to do the same thing? Or was he so afraid to leave his friend in the hands of a strange drow, even a healer, who had no compassion for the ones they treated and only cared about selling their wares? Had Ssussun really made that much of an impression on him? It must be so; even she seemed convinced that it was a silly idea to come to her of all people, even though she had agreed to help them. He had to be very careful; even if she had agreed to help him, she was still a drow, and a female at that. They all had their hidden agendas, and he was convinced that this one would ask for something astronomical in exchange for her help. Well, he had offered to pay whatever proce she asked, and he would hold himself to that.

"It's true, I don't truly know anyone in this city, and I cannot even explain it fully to myself why I chose to come here. I took a risk, but to me it would have been just as risky going to a healer that I've never seen before or bought anything from. I guess what I'm trying to say is......you seemed the more likely not to take advantage of US."

Strange. That was all she could think as she settled back and watched the pair. Mikaril was the teacher then and Kyil was his apprentice. But he seemed more... important. That was all she could think at a moment. He smiled at the ill drow and seemed determined to watch over him...what was she missing right now? Maybe they were intimate? The pink eyed male was pretty enough she supposed. Perhaps that was the trade off for his apprentiship? Actually that was sort of amuseing, but he really did not seem -that- familar with the ill male.

When Mikaril turned back to speak to her, Ssu found herself leaning forwards a little bit and resting her chin in her palm. "Seems he is really important then. You two are lovers?" It just seemed like they would be. Particularly after hearing that from him! His explanation, or rather lack there of, for coming to her for aid rather then a city healer merely had her eyebrow arching at him. "You don't think I'm likely to take advantage of you? That must have been some prayer you said before you made your choice then." Ssu could not help but grin slightly up at him. Foolish male, to think something like that! "I mean, this is a circus. We make our livelyhood by taking advantage of everyone!" Still..she did not gloat or otherwise insinuate there would be some terrible price to be paid for this. Aside from a amused giggle she merely shook her head at the male.

"Meh. Just so long as your apprentice doesn't get me sick I'll be happy enough for now. It's too early to think of prices and payments. More like warm bubbly drinks and sweet breakfast custard. Now that is something I'd be happier to focus on now."

Mikaril couldn't help but smile and shake his head as Ssussun would guess on their relationship. He was beginning to expect it; a friendship such as theirs would obviously be hard to understand in a place such as this; the closest thing most drow could comprehend was a lover's relationship. Though it could be based on feelings deemed as weak, that sort was still based on mutual gain, whereas their relationship thrived on kindness for the other's sake and expecting nothing in return. Such a concept would be hard for even a less conniving drow to understand. It seemed a pity really; this female with all her charisma had apparently never found a real and true friend.

"No, we're not lovers; we do love each other, but not in that sense. Think of it as.......like two brothers without having to worry about the one overtaking the other and having the room to actually be fond of each other." He wrinkled his nose as he spoke; that example didn't do it by a longshot, but it was the closest comparison he could think of that she might understand or possibly relate to. At the mention of prayer, he felt a bitter taste welling in his mouth; the last thing he wanted right now was to be reminded of his religious instability, especially in the presence of a female who could very well suspect him for a heretic and turn him in to the local authorities. Covering it up, he merely shrugged. "Well, it doesn't surprise me; I haven't really been thinking clearly of late. My poor decision-making usually causes us both to suffer. But....I try to do the best I can." He felt the blood creeping into his face at Ssussun's giggle. How stupid he must seem to her, like a trusting little child before the ways of the world were beaten into him and the innocence was smothered like an unwanted infant.

"Well, I do hope that whatever he has is not catching, but I was with him through the night and carrying him here, and I feel just fine. Perhaps it's as he said, that something didn't agree with him. Even so, I just couldn't leave him in pain...." Well, at least she seemed to accept Kyil as his apprentice and not his lover; that was close enough to suit him without having to put up with the knowing winks and offhanded remarks. He turned back to Kyil and let his eyes unfocus. Custard.....his mind wandered back to the custard Kyil had brought him that one time when he had been strapped down....meticulously de-sugared so that he could eat it without being sick.....as sick as poor Kyil was now. He closed his eyes and sighed; sometimes he felt as though he could never deserve a friend like Kyil.

Hoping to not only keep the conversation going but perhaps gather a hint as to just when breakfast would be served, and the rest of the circus would start to waken, Mikaril turned his head back toward Ssussun.
"Does breakfast come really early?"

Honestly. This drow and his apprentice were a bit confuseing. Ssussun couldn't quiet place it. They almost seemed alien. If she did not know better, she'd have suspected that they were some other race, shape changed into a dark elf form and atempting to pass for her kind. But...that was highly unlikely. What would they be doing here if they were? There surely was nothing to gain..unless they were spies of some sort? Trying to feel her out and see if there was any truth to the rumors about her?

No...they wouldn't go about it in such a lame way. This was just not right she supposed. They were just...a little different. Perhaps in time she could figure out exactly how, providing the pink eyed Kyil did not die.

Maybe this Kyil was related to Elkaun? Ssu's eyes drifted to look at the sleeping Kyil while Mikaril would try to explain their weird relationship. Both had pink eyes. Elkauns hair was a bit more grey and this Kyils seemed more white. Both had unique tattos with blue hints sworling down one arm that she could have seen. Both were muscular and lean. She'd have to ask Elkaun later if he had an idea about how many siblings he could possibly have. His mother had not been the most chaste of the circus drow as she recalled.

Ssu turned to look back at Mikaril, then leaned forwards a bit so she could study him a bit more. He wasn't so bad looking himself either, kinda easy on the eyes. And with the lack of lewd roving eyes on his part..she found that to be even better. "I suppose he's of little use if he is in pain." She carefully spoke while watching Mikaril's face. "I mean, being distracted and all he'd hardly be focused on the right things. Your not in some sort of trouble are you? The Ringleader won't be happy if I've let a pair of hunted drow into her caravan unknowlingly." Ssu tilted her head a little towards the door. "Pretty early. Normally the circus stirs in the early hours. What with the animals that need to be fed and tended to. Performers like myself have the luxury of sleeping in a bit later though. Our value and contribution comes from the acts we perform, and we need to be fresh and well rested to perform well. I suspect the healer will wake up early was well, so if any of the manual laborers get hurt she can tend to them. So it won't be long before your friend will get looked at. Maybe another candlemark at the most. In the meantime I suppose I could send one of the circus brats to get us something to eat."

Mikaril could feel the female's eyes on him, and it was all he could do to keep from fidgeting right there on the stool. He could think of a million reasons why this carefree female would stare at him so. Had he said something incriminating regarding him and Kyil, something that she could use to exploit them, the way Haellara had done so readily? Was she thinking that they had some other motive for coming here; to fake all of this and rob her blind? Or had she somehow guessed that they were fugitives from a house and was thinking of a way to cash in on them?

He tried not to flinch as he saw out of the corner of his eye the form of Ssussun leaning in toward him. He felt himself breaking out into a cold sweat as her eyes seemed to rove over him, the way Hael's had before she had cast her blood-boiling spell. He was so ordinary as far as looks; why did she stare so? He felt a sudden cold feeling in his stomach as he considered the possibility that she might sense the magic around his ears and be curious about it. If she discovered that he had unicorn ears, they would both have to bolt really fast; he wouldn't leave Kyil as a bargaining tool, but he also wasn't sure he could get Kyil out in time for an escape. Again he was considering just why he had come here; had he gone to a healer, he would have the cure and they would both be safe and sound....in the cold, hard cave, with their dream bedroom still in the form of ink on a scroll. Well, even if he had to bolt, at least his friend would have gotten a bit of well-earned rest.

His fears seemed realized when Ssussun asked him about trouble. He didn't know what he was going to say to her; definitely not that both he and Kyil might be worth a house's treasure room to a certain house all the way on the other side of the Underdark. Already he was unnerved by the female's callous way of looking at Kyil's illness. The way she spoke, like his best friend was a prize riding lizard, a beast of burden, instead of a thinking, feeling being. He knew it was showing on his face, but he put it aside as the usual psychological jabbing that females loved to engage in with males, and it steeled his resolve to not reveal anything more than he had to with this female.
"I can assure you, we're not in any trouble that would bring misfortune to your group. Just the usual enemies, and we don't intend to intrude upon you nearly long enough for them to even contemplate connecting us."

He nodded and felt a sense of relief; soon the healer would come, and they could leave and let this female get back to her sleep. He hoped that he hadn't disturbed enough of her sleep so that she wouldn't be able to perform quite as good this coming day. He couldn't help but feel a little bad, but nonetheless, Kyil was still his top priority. That same priority caused him to shake his head at the mention of breakfast. "Much as I would like that, I would much rather wait until Kyil has been seen to; if it is food that is disagreeing with him, the smell of it close to him might cause him to feel sick, and I don't think either of us want that. You go ahead and get something; I'll be happy to get something when we are no longer imposing on you."
PostPosted: Thu Dec 03, 2009 9:58 pm

Something was going on here. Ssussun wished she knew exactly what though. She wasn't as skillful at reading people as Elkaun was, the conniving male was very good at reading other drow and taking advantage of them as such. If it were something that Ssu had really a invested interest in, she was sure she could have learned how to read others more deeply. Then she would have been able to tell what was going on with this male. But...

Ssussun really did not want that skill personally. There was something more enchanting about being clueless. Seeing someone and not knowing what was making them tic or feeling...it made them more like a person in her eyes and less of a object. She tried once to explain that to Sszor...all the mime did was look at her, and she found his unreadable expression more comforting then anything else at that moment. She didn't want to know what he was thinking or feeling unless he wanted to tell her. Which the sad faced male often chose not to do.

So, in this instance, Ssu was left looking upon Mikaril without a dang clue how to read him...and she was happy enough with that.

"Usual enemies huh? Well I am sure very drow has a few of those. So that is nothing out of the ordinary." She commented after a moment of thought. The fact Mikaril was more concerned with his apprentices well being still was terribly odd. Surely he could have accepted a meal just for himself while he waited. SHe had not been meaning to offer Kyil any food right yet anyways. Still...she shrugged her shoulders after he turned down the offer.

"I am not hungry. It's too early to actually eat anything. Thinking about it is fine, but the actual eating is another thing." Ssu cast her eyes upwards towards the unpainted roof of the wagon. "So have you figured out what you are going to do if he has something worse then just food poisoning?"

Happy that Ssussun didn't seen perturbed at him and Kyil having a usual lineup of drow seeking to do them harm, Mikaril found himself beginning to smile. "No, not out of the ordinary at all. And we're not even outlawed in any of the cities. Pretty much to all but a select few, Kyil and I are just a pair of nobodies." He couldn't help but smile inwardly at the thought of himself being a nobody, a houseless drow with no ties to a matron. It definitely seemed more appealing in terms of hiding them, so long as their host didn't think in turn that their anonymity would make them a lot harder to find if they DID decide to pull something while they were here.

"I'll still wait until I see how Kyil feels." He looked at Ssussun out of the corner of his eye, smile still in place. "It must seem kind of strange, huh; seeing someone put the needs of someone else first. It took me a while to get used to Kyil doing that to me, but it's a rather nice feeling, and I'm happy to return it." His smile faltered as he considered the female's question; what WOULD he do if this turned out to be serious? "Well.....I would do all I can of course. I'd make our place more comfortable for him, see to his needs and protect him until he feels well again. We had plans to make a life for ourselves here, but it's nothing that can't wait. I have ways of gaining funds to sustain us both, and anything medicine-wise he needs, I'll get it."

His gaze had turned back to Kyil as he had spoken, and he found himself clutching at the leg plates of his armor the way an ordinary-dressed drow would clutch at their trouser fabric when they were agitated. How long had it been? An hour? Two? When was the healer going to wake up? Part of him wanted Kyil seen to right away, to stay his growing fear that there was something seriously wrong with his friend, yet he was still glad of the sleep Kyil was getting and wanted him to get as much of it as possible. The waiting was so unbearable; even in pain, Kyil was at least passing the time with some much-needed rest instead of staying awake and fretting. He didn't even try to venture down the road that led to the possibility of Kyil having something that would eventually end his life; the merest thought was like a fresh jab in his stomach with Hael's pointed stick.

Hoping to make the time pass even faster, Mikaril scrambled inside of his head for a conversation starter. He couldn't remember the last time he had simply chatted with a female; he wanted to say it was with a female who had been traveling about much like he had. She was surprisingly agreeable, and seemingly unbothered that he, a male, should be out doing his own thing instead of serving a designated female. They had taken to traveling together, and the pair of them had encountered a juvenile hook horror and had managed to escape together, scathed but whole. In the end, they had gone their separate ways, and Mikaril still caught himself wondering whether his traveling companion had even been a drow at all.
"So.....how long have you been performing here at the circus? Has fire always been your act?"
PostPosted: Sat Dec 05, 2009 10:12 pm

The fact he was even addressing the fact he was acting oddly was...well...odd! Ssu blinked her eyes at Mikaril for a moment, then shrugged her shoulders in a transparent attempt to disguise her confusion. "Well...your apprentice seems...I don't know. I've hardly seen enough of you two to really guess.. But if he taught you this then he must be a very..difrerent sort of drow. I wouldn't go around bragging bout that either. A more ambitious female could start getting ideas you know?" Once more she remarked in such a off hand manner without actually following through enough to make it sound like a threat.

Instead she listened to the rather..un-thought-through plans of the male. Her head shook a little, but she could not rebuff him. This had come upon him unexpectantly. She couldn't expect some houseless drow to have back up plans for things like sudden violent illness. A silence followed in the next few minutes then, and Ssu half closed her eyes. Perhaps Mikaril would drift off to sleep now and allow her to sleep as well. However, he surprised her by rouseing up some more conversation. Ssu lifted her amber red eyes to peer at Mikaril.

"How long? Mmmm... My whole life. I was born into the circus. I've spent my whole life traveling. In fact, this wagon has been mine since I was twenty years old. Just a little kid I know, but it gave me a place to crash and stay out from under foot." She paused for a few moments and lifted her hand before her face. Gently she rubbed her fingers together, and a small flicker of pale yellow flame danced over the tips for a brief second.

"I've always had a..special relationship with fire. It doesn't hurt my eyes as badly as it does others. Mostly because I use it so often. I can't ever recall being hurt by it either. Not really hurt. It has always taxed me though. Pushed me to my limits, tested me. Demanded of me. But it has always never been more then I could handle. It always seems to stop just shy of..well...it doesn't matter. I began useing it to perform as a child. Just little flares and fire tricks. I have always loved it. So..I got better..until I finally was good enough to work in the Ring. That was when i got my nic name. Course. I picked it out myself." She glanced across the way to Mikaril and cracked a wide grin. "If I had let the others in the circus name me I probably woulda been named Fire Bug or something silly like that."

Ugh. Mikaril reached up and rubbed his temples with one hand. Of course he shouldn't be telling of Kyil and his relationship with each other; what was he thinking now? Just because she was humoring their barging in and using her wagon as a makeshift infirmary didn't guarantee that she wouldn't do anything to them once their guard was down. Though it was nice of her to point it out instead of acting upon it. In the end he merely nodded and let the matter drop.

He was interested as she told of how she had first started out with her fire act. When she rubbed her fingers together and produced the small flame, he brought a hand up and shielded his eyes from the sudden glare. But when he lowered his hand and saw the tiny flicker and felt the tiny bit of warmth emanating from it, he found himself imagining it growing into a gigantic fireball, careening toward him with a roaring sound, heat washing over him and causing the hairs on his head to singe and his skin to start crackling and flaking off..... His eyes were wide and showed the reflection of the little flame quite easily. Then just as quickly as it had come, the panicked feeling was gone, and he turned back to the sleeping Kyil.
"That must have been fun, though I would be wary of it taking over one night. I suppose you have to have a lot of practice to keep it from doing that."

He smiled a weary smile. "Well I think it's a wonderful nickname. And I'm sure you need the rest of your sleep back for your performance later today. Is there a place here where you can rest? I would be more than happy to make it up for you while you wait a little bit. I intend to stay up until Kyil can be seen by the healer." He admitted that it would be harder to keep awake without someone to talk to, but he also figured that perhaps she would refuse to let herself drift off too much with two strange drow in her wagon, even though one of them was sick and the other at the moment too wary of her powers to even contemplate trying anything.
PostPosted: Mon Dec 07, 2009 10:50 pm

Hmm. She knew that many drow disliked the brightness of fire...but Mikaril seemed to react oddly to it. Just how she was not certain yet...Ah well. The flame was gone, and she doubted that Mikaril would be hanging around long enough for it to really become a issue. "Oh..it was fun. It always is fun." She replied while glanceing over her fingers "I don't think it'll take me over unexpectantly...it can only do what I ask of it. If it does overwhelm me, it would be because I tried to reach too deeply into it. That is the price to pay for recklessness you know."

When Mikaril told her it was a wonderful nick name, she wondered for a moment if he meant Fire Bug. But judgeing by his smile he must have meant her own choice, and for that reason she smiled back to him. "Meh...I doubt I could get back to sleep really. I'll just call in a day of rest and sleep later on." Ssu's eyes swept towards the door, and after a moment she shrugged off the blanket she had draped over her shoulders and stood. "I suppose I could go and see if the healer is awake now. It is a bit later and truthfully..I am sure you want him seen to as quickly as I do. It makes more sense to make certain he isn't contagious. I'll leave you here while I fetch her. Just..don't go through my things." She cautioed Mikaril as she lightly picked her way around Mikaril and to the door of the wagon.

Mikaril found himself torn between concern that Ssu hadn't gotten enough sleep and relief that it seemed that Kyil would be seen by the healer at last. He nodded sincerely at her warning and sat as straight as a rod on the stool as he watched her leave. Once she was gone, he found himself breathing easier, but at the same time he was acutely aware of her presence no longer being there. He supposed due to her profession, she had a certain amount of charisma, and while he had enjoyed talking to her, he had felt constantly frustrated with himself as he had slipped up again and again and told her more than he ought to have. He was reminded uncomfortably of Kyil's words about his profession when they had first met, how he had just listened to any who cared to use his open ears, only he was certain that this female wouldn't be quite as obligated to keep what she had heard a secret.

In spite of his worry for Kyil, the sudden quiet in the wagon and the steady rhythm of Kyil's breathing was causing his eyelids to droop. He had had a morning full of panic, and it was beginning to catch up with him. He eased himself up off of the stool and stood on his knees by the bed, watching Kyil as he lay there. He wanted to reach out and take hold of Kyil's hand, but at the same time he didn't want him to wake up just yet. He was still trying to figure out how he could reach out to Kyil and let him know that he was still there, ever vigilant, when he decided to just rest his head beside Kyil's for just one moment. Breathing in the smell of feathers and taking in the sheer softness of the section wher ehe had laid his head, let his eyes close and drifted off, destined to stay that way until the females returned.

Fetching the healer wasn't near as quick or easy as it should have been. When Ssu had first showed up in the healer was quick to get to her feet and scramble to let Ssu in. When she learned that her services were requesed for the sake of some outsider males..well..that was when her movements lost their speed and rush. Ssu sighed a few times while waiting for the healer to clean herself up and fully redress. Then of course she had to wait for her to collect all her gear, as Ssu could not tell her exactly what was wrong with the male in question. When they finally returned to the wagon, Ssu was certain a hour had passed at the least. She opened the door to her wagon, and drew up short.

She took a moment to peer curiously at Mikaril as he rested beside her bed. Strange male. Such a strange male. Perhaps this had all been an act. Perhaps Kyil was truely the master and Mikaril was the loyally trained servant? Yes, that would make some sense. Perhaps better sense then the whole Lovers thing. With a small shake of her head, Ssu crossed over to where Mikaril knelt and reached out to shake both him and Kyil. "Wake up you two. The healer is here." She spoke in a voice just a little louder then a whisper.

Kyil slept with a profound deepness. It was a dark and dreamless sleep, though had Mikaril not been close at hand he surely would not have slept half so well. His fingers twitched only once as he inhaled and exhalsed deeply. It was the females voice, and a light touch upon his shoulder that pulled him from the refreshing darkness. He felt so warm and comfortable. He did not want to open his eyes. Kyil blinked his pink eyes open and peered up with a groggy awareness. "Ah...already?"

The instant he had felt Ssu's hand upon his shoulder, Mikaril started up and half-rose from his chair as though he had been stung. He was shocked beyond belief that he had slept through the pair of females coming in through the door. Surely he was more alert than that, even if he was tired! It bothered him more than it should; if he would sleep through two strangers coming into the same room, how alert would he be if anyone Hael sent, or even Hael herself, came looking for them, as he was still convinced she was bound to do?

Pulling himself together and steadying his breathing to a more normal pace, Mikaril stood up in a more dignified fashion, looking down at Kyil with some concern.
"How are you feeling? Did the sleep help?" Unwilling to move too far away from his friend, he stepped out of the way of the side of the bed, but closer to the head of the bed, where he could watch all that was going to happen and ensure that the healer wouldn't do anything that looked even remotely suspicious or hurtful. He hoped that she would at least be able to tell just what was ailing his friend.

Figuring that she had best know the facts, Mikaril spoke up as he hovered near Kyil's head.
"He was alright when we went to sleep last night. We had fish with yellow sauce, and then some wine before we went to bed. I suspected food poisoning at first, but only Kyil is affected by it, and neither of us had anything different from the other. Early this morning, he had stomach pains, sufficient enough to give back what was eaten. I can't see if it was a reaction to the food why it wouldn't effect myself as well; that's what confuses me. I....really hope you can tell us what is the matter, and I will gladly pay you what price you demand of us for your trouble." Trailing off, he resumed glancing between Kyil and the pair of females, his alertness still running high.
