"I donnae know tha' I'd hae th' time, but if you need me, I'll try an' be here," Rory said, looking back down at Bel. "Um, there's a rumor gaen abouts tha' one o' them is blind. Is tha' true?"

Ellandra smiled again, this tie more sadly. "Yes, it's true. . . . little Sam - Samhain," she said quietly, and pronouncing his full name properly, ".... He's blind. But Faolan thinks he might be even more gifted than he is with the cards, so perhaps he can make up for that. . ." She didn't dare mention that they knew this for certain because Ziazan had said so - eventually Rory would probably find out more about the Essentics, since he was so involved with Lee, but for now, erring on the side of caution was still for the best.

The boy nodded. "It happens like tha' sometimes. People who are gifted wi' sight are sometimes a lot stronger when they cannae see anything but what they're abilities show them. I'm sorry tha' he cannae see, but he'll prolly be alright. He'll hae th' whole clan lookin' out fae him, same as Beltaine." He looked up at Ellandra. "Why does she hae all this wrappin' around her? Does she got problems, too?"

Ellandra shrugged a little, chewing on her lip. "Nothing permanent, in Bel's case, but," and she paused to sigh a bit. "Sam was the firstborn, you see, and somehow he broke her collarbone in his hurry to get out. She'll be alright, but the bone needs to heal, hence all of the wrappings."

Rory chuckled. "Maybe he just wanted t' see th' world. It must be a beautiful thing t' him wi' his gift." He looked down at Bel. "You know, if she's anythin' like you, I bet she'll make a wonderful dancer one day."

Ellandra blinked. "What? I - I'm not a dancer, Rory, where would you get an idea like that?" She paused for a moment though, and smiled at her baby. "She might be, though. However I think that would come more from Faolan than from me. . ."

Ellandra smiled. "Don't be embarrassed, Rory, I'm really quite flattered. I don't think I'd be able to dance, I'd get too frightened, but thank you all the same." Tilting her head a little, she looked over at the empty bassinets, a small, content smile on her face. "I think I'm perfectly fine being a wife, mother, and writer, honestly."

"Mm, I guess so. I always been good wi' me hands, though," Rory mused. He looked over at Elle. "Wis it hard t' leave th' outside an' join th' clan? I mean, Lee's gettin' it all pretty well, but sometimes I think she really misses her ol' life."

"Well. . . . . in some ways. .. . yes and no. My life wasn't happy beforeI met Faolan and came here, and so much more so afterward, but it did take a little adjusting. In truth there's still some things I'm not quite used to - perhaps I'll never fit in perfectly, I don't know for certain." She paused for a moment, then continued, "But I didn't really have anything to give up by coming here. . . honestly, it might vary from person to person. I'm sorry I'm not more help."

"You knew Lee before she moved here. She says she wis lonely an' all, but did she hae a good life?" Rory asked, looking up. It was clear one of his biggest fears was that Lee would figure it out he wasn't good enough for her and leave.
