It was amazing, really, what Mikhail was capable of when he wasn't in a bad mood and maybe actually liked someone. Or didn't dislike someone, which was close enough. When Dustin revealed his reason (err, her reason? confuuuusing!) for stuffing his face, however, the angel grimaced. "In that case, you can keep it."

He didn't like seafood any more than he liked where it came from!

(( *tries to catch up whilst ignoring whatever has happened to Gaia o_O ))

'I am? Sorry,' she said, pulling away but laughing as she did so. Sati looked at Nyoka from arms length, as though she couldn't quite believe in her eyes, that her old friend was in front of her again.

'Thanks.'
She smiled, acknowledging the compliment, and let Nyoka go properly, waving her two hands.
'You have no idea how weird it has having just the two of these..' she giggled.

'And you have no idea how good it is to see you again after all this time! I've really missed you being around.'

Sati looked around, sure her name had been called, and turned from Nyoka for a moment, breaking into a broad smile at the sight of Quinn with Addie in tow.

'Of course!' she said, agreeing straight away, stretching her arms out to her daughter. Not only did she get to see her friend again, but her daughter was here, and she would get to introduce her to Nyoka. It was turning into a wonderful party, and it had barely even started.

"Suit y'self," Dustin replied in a pleased voice, clearly not disappointed to have one less person to compete with for the food. Not the he expected he'd be eating even a significant portion of the offerings, really. Judging by the amount of food at the banquet, Caoi must've planned for everyone to come with her appetite, and even at his hungriest, Dusty couldn't hope to match the Selkie Fa'e bite for bite!

Nibbling at a bit of crab meat (crab, real crab, not even the fake stuff with a k!), Dusty meandered over to join Mik and Sei. It occurred to him, briefly, that there weren't any Fa'e his own age around, but that hardly bothered him. He spent most of his time hanging around older Fa'e these days anyway, after all! "So what's up with you guys? Got anythin' interesting going on?"

Caoimhe was a lot of things -- stubborn, gluttonous, short -- but she was most certainly not patient. The girl had fully intended to wait a solid thirty minutes before making an entrance at her party, but she just... couldn't! Not with all the delicious smells and the humming beach-y music and the awesome, awesome promise of presents. Sure, there were plenty of people who weren't there yet, but whatever, they could just miss the grand entrance. And it would be GRAND.

Carmichael surfaced from a back room holding a cordless microphone in one hand. "Hello, party people!" Upstairs, Caoimhe groaned. She had given him a list of phrases NOT to say -- and that was one of them. "If you could all just head out to the patio and take a seat around the pool, our special sweet sixteen-er will be joining us soon-soon-soon. And then we'll get this par-tay star-tayed!" He smiled -- all teeth -- and clapped his hands twice, shooing everyone outside.

On the patio, large speakers thrummed a steel drum song; Caoimhe had run out of money before she could hire a live band. Oh well. The food and venue had been the most important. As everyone filed outside, Caoi paced in the room that led to the second-floor balcony, bare feet padding an even rhythm. Gristla appeared at the door, a pale pink lei hanging around her neck. "Are you sure this is a good idea, cub?" she asked, holding the door open with one paw. "Did you even practice?"

Caoi folded her arms over her chest. "I went cliff diving all the time on Aranorn -- and I've practiced it like seven times." Or one. But one was almost seven. Gristla made a nervous sound, but the teenage Fa'e held a hand up, silencing her. "Come on, it's my biiiiirthdaaaaay..." Her guardian gave her a stern look, but relented, heading back to the room with the other guardians.

Waiting for the door to close, Caoi slipped out of her sarong, adjusting her brown and gold tankini. Clothes in water. Sheesh. Some things on Gaia just didn't make a lot of sense. She could hear Carmichael ushering everyone outside, his voice fluttering in excitement. Peeking over the edge of the balcony, Caoimhe waited until she saw the majority of the guest poised at the ready -- then... then she would make her debut!

"Hey, Dusty." Sei said with a grin. He didn't look that bad-of, in spite of what Mik had told him... That was a relief. Too bad there weren't any carnival rides around these parts to mess with... Ah, fond memories. The deerkitten's appetite did not seem to bother him, and he did no move to go toward the buffet just yet. Maybe later.

Hearing the announcement, however, Sei tilted his head toward the source of the sound, and waited to see if his companions would go outside to follow them.

"Nope," Mik replied, and it was mostly true. Nothing that was the sort of interesting you really discussed at a party, when there were a bunch of other people around. "You?"

And then came the announcement - a really stupid-sounding announcement. He moved outside reluctantly. If he ever had a birthday party (hah!), it wouldn't be anything like this. Of course, he probably woukdn't invite every Fa'e in existence, either...just the ones he liked, which would make it a very small party.

Addie looked up at Quinn, waiting for the silent OK, before dropping her caregiver's hand and charging full out towards Sati. "SATI-MOMMA!" the kangaroo-lizard shouted, wrapping herself around Sati's leg.

Quinn followed behind, grinning at the toddler's enthusiasm. She hefted the diaper bag and held it out to Sati. "Everything you should need is in here. She has on a pull-up and she's pretty good about letting you know when she has to go, but it might not hurt to ask her every once in awhile. She forgets when she get's distracted. Extra pull-ups are in the bag. So is her suit, in case she wants to swim. And there are toys and books and some snacks, if she won't eat from the buffet...." Quinn realized that she was just stalling at this point and she shot Sati a look ripe with chagrin. "Now I know a bit how you felt, giving her to me. It's hard to leave her, isn't it?"

She bent down and gestured for Adelaide to come give her a hug. "You listen to Sati-Momma, OK? I'm just going to be upstairs with the other guardians if you need me. Don't go near the pool without adult supervision and try to stay out of trouble, OK Pip?"

She tweaked Addie's nose and kissed the top of her head. This was her first time being separated from her charge and it was proving more difficult that she would have imagined. Quinn stood and wiped and errant tear from her cheek. She ruffled Addie's hair and then turned around and headed up the stairs, looking back to wave every so often.

Adelaide waved back and yelled, "'s'ok, Momma! No be sad. You give me kisses later!" Then she turned to Nyoka, fingers playing with Sati's sarong, and blurted, "Where's you legs?"

Kia jumped as people were ordered to come outside to where SHE was. Oh well. She had to be social! She stuffed the box of cigerettes back into the handbag fast before they were spotted. She was a fa'e, what could they do to her? Other than set her on fire every sunrise?

"Hi Mik!" She tried, enthusiastic. Oh yes, it was a party. She had to be! Kia smiled, relaxing a tiny bit. Mik was a new friend. ...erm, well, a new person that she knew. She had glimpsed someone with a tail and knew Nyoka was in there. But Kia was having trouble being brave enough to talk to her now.

Kia bit her lip. Bad Kia! She was at a party! Now was not the time to have problems with facing old friends!

Sati's enthusiasm causes a twinge of guilt in Nyoka. Damned bills ... but they had to be paid. "I'm sorry," she muttered, automatically. "I haven't been around, that is. Three jobs ..." she let it go at that, and managed to plaster a smile on her face, one that almost reached her tired eyes. "But, yeah, it's great to see you! I've missed you, too, Sati, really."

She reached out a taloned hand to poke at Sati's shoulder, was about to say something to the effect of her having to get used to not having the extra set of arms, but her friend had turned and was talking to a guardian. She remains politely quiet, observing more than she let on when she noted Sati's smile, and the tone in her voice. Hmm.... Sati-momma? Damn, she had missed a lot.

Addie, huh? As she looked the girl over, she noticed some things about her ... like the fact that her ears were vaguely familiar.... Before she could comment, however, Addie was speaking to her. Ah, she hadn't been around children for a while, and forgot how curious, and blunt, they could be. As a result, she blinked her serpentine eyes once, slowly, and mulled over her answer. "I don't think I was supposed to have them," she replied. "I was born like this." Better to be honest rather than make up some strange tale about losing her legs and deciding that she wanted to have a 'snake-butt' ...

Holy crap, that was it! Now she knew why those ears were so familiar! But, they were being ushered outside, and she couldn't comment on it. Rats.... She looked at Sati, quirking a brow at her. She wasn't about to go out there with a bunch of Fa'e she didn't know without some backup.

Silver slowly made his way outside, hopping up and perching on one wall, feet and hands on the wall as he waited to see Caiomie's big Debue. He think he knew who she was, the one that had run from him....This should be interesting.

(( Hope it's okay that Sati picks Addie up to move to the patio =))

Sati laughed as Adelaide clung to her leg, only half listening to the announcement as she concentrated on what Quinn was saying.

'Pull-ups, swimsuit, food and toys. Got it.' she smiled, thinking it was almost as if Quinn was the birth mother handing Addie over to the baby-sitter! She nodded at Quinn, understanding passing between them.

'It is. You should find my Guardian when you go in there..'

Sati bent, untangling her daughter from her leg and her sarong, hoisting her up and resting Addie on her hip, the diaper bag on her opposite shoulder.
'Now I really miss my other set of arms.'

She looked at Nyoka.
'I think we're good, shall we go then?' she looked at Addie and smiled.
'Shall we go see the birthday girl?'

Addie watched Nyoka from her perch on Sati's hip, thinking about what the Gorgon had said. She was really curious as to how the woman was able to move without legs. She stared intently as they made their way out to the patio, studying Nyoka's every slither. She clung to Sati's shoulder, her hips and waist subtly copying Nyoka's back and forth movement.

Dustin drifted outside with the rest of the crowd, nibbling at his food plate the whole way. He was interested (and somewhat relieved) to note that he was not, in fact, the youngest here - though Adelaide was hardly company of his same age, at least it meant he had someone around to make him look mature by comparison.

"Same old, y'know," he answered Mik idly, "stayin' out of trouble." Hah - as if Dusty were ever really so innocent! His tail could attest to that, sadly. He didn't bother to check if the angel caught his joke and/or lie, however. It seemed someone else had spotted the youth and was clamoring for attention, now - the deerkitten was probably safe from scrutiny. But just to be sure.... "That a friend of yours?" Dustin nodded in Kia's direction. The woman was slightly familiar to him, but only slightly - from some Prom or another, he thought.

'Hi Mik!'

It wasn't a voice he reocgnized right away, so he turned his head to see who was calling him. That, however, was the most attention he paid to Kia. He didn't reply or even nod, just looked away again. Th Egyptian Fa'e was very, very low on his list, and he wasn't going to...encourage interaction. He answered Dusty with an honest "No."

She wasn't self-conscious, at least not how she used to be. She wasn't exactly very 'normal' looking, either, so that prepared her for Addie's staring. It didn't even register until she caught a little movement from the child. Out of the corner of her eye, she watched her, and had to hold back a smile. Ok, that was actually really cute....

But, she had nodded at Sati, and followed her friend outside. She settled in with a sigh, lifted a taloned hand up to brush her hair out of her face. "Have you met the birthday girl?" she asked Sati as one of her snakes, as was their custom, extended itself tentatively toward Addie, its tongue flicking out to smell the air around it.
