It would have been fun to learn more about the Sleer, but I for me the whole point of the creature was that it was so old it couldn't even remember itself who it's master had been.
Personally I assumed it to be some tribal leader from aeons ago.

I didn't really pay attention to Bod's way of speaking, but I think it's fair to assume that the way in which does around him speak never changes. So his wouldn't change that much either, as it seems to me that most kids pick up new words and so when they go to school. Perhaps he'd have picked up some words there, but he wasn't there very long.

I started the book and got about half way through when my in-laws got here. They drive me absolutely crazy... and have given me no time to get back to reading the book.

I like what I have read so far though.

Have you managed to finish it yet Orchidsdance? I'm curious what you thought of the rest of the book. ^^

Actually no. I hate to say that though. Everyone is gone, but we are trying to sell our house and move and stuff... so its a little stressful over here at the moment. I will finish it though... just cant say when. I will post once I do.

I'm only about halfway through, because I started late. I've been reading in waiting rooms and when I'm out shopping, since I've been busy moving rooms at home and moving to a new building at work.
I like what I've read so far. When I do manage to open the book, I get absorbed into Bod's world. I love the hints at Silas being a vampire. On the back of the copy I have, the reviews say they look forward to hearing more about Bod, so I assume there will be a sequel.
I love it when books are written in a way that they can appeal to all ages, rather than just kids or just adults.

I'm not sure I'd like to read a sequel. They tend to be disappointing and I don't really want to have the experience of the book spoiled by a sequel. Not that I think Neil Gaiman is capable of writing a bad book, just sequels tend to disappoint.

Unless the sequel was planned all along, but in that case it would be a series. Uhm, does that still make sense?

Besides I think I'd prefer a book centred on Silas. It'd be interesting to read about the stuff he gets up to when he leaves the graveyard.

I would love a sequel on Silas.
Unfortunately, I've been busy moving my rooms at home and my office to a new building, so I haven't really had time or motivation to finish this. In the process of moving my room, I found a whole bunch of books I haven't read yet that look a lot more interesting. I'm starting to find the book a little slow and drawn out so I can't make myself motivated to read it when I do have time.
Does anyone else have this problem, thinking the story moves too slow?

I don't believe a second book was planned--though with the awards this has one, I wonder if Gaiman would be under pressure to produce one.

(Sorry I'm late to the discussion--had to work this past weekend)

I found the opening a little graphic, but then I also liked that no punches were pulled as to the fate of Bod's biological family.

Ah, this is where this thread got to!

I would dearly love to get the book club going again. Are others still interested?

I'd love to join this book club. However, I'm dirt poor and since the club can't exactly provide the books, could we perhaps find online versions? Piracy for the love of books should we need to?

Don't get me wrong if I have the money I'll get the paper copy (I can't stand reading on a computer) but I think others share my view on poor for books. It'll make participating that much easier.

Hmmm...I've read both books, though Nightseer was a while ago, so I know I could participate in a discussion for either.
