Lilliana112101 yea i've dances for 8 years. im 13 btw. anyway. so im not AWESOME but i learn really fast. Im only JUST learning fouettes and calypsos because this year is my first year of competing. then there a 15 year old and a 17 yar old and they both hav dances for 13 yearsand neither of them are very good. thn there are threee other girls who r 10 11 and 12 and have danced for 3 years each and they have double calypsos, fouettes, tripple pirouettes, 12 oclock needles and are accomplished gymnasts. so the way i figur it is it clicks for some people and other dont get it that well wow, some similarity! I am also 13, starting 8th year of dancing, and just started really doing fuettes.....and yes, all the gymnasts can do those kinds of things easy....(has had them in her classes)

boardbunny240 I am going into my 8th year of dance, but I know that I am still not very good, and I know girls in my class who have been dancing longer but arn't as good. One of our top dancers who was invited to New York City Ballet, only started like 5 or so years ago, and she is 15. It doesn't matter how long you have spent dance, but how much effort over that time you have spent dancing. I am just now starting to become a much better dancer than I was because I am now old enough to realize how much work and effort I need to put forth to become a usable dancer. Wow, that's awsome. Lilliama- dude you have got to be kidding me 10 with triple pirouettes...wow that is most impressive. I am just learning how to do a calypso, though it is somewhat self taught because right now we are focusing more on our football and contest season.

I'm going on my 9th year of dance. I'm not the best dancer but i am decent. Plus i just dance for fun, exercise and i enjoy it. People are always like nine years wow you most be good. i kinda shrug and go i'm okay. But i have had experience with people who have danced that long and suck(a girl in my duo tried to tell me i was doing a dance move wrong last year and my dance teacher was like um no your doing it wrong and she got pissed scream !)i

I know what you mean when you talk about some person who thinks they're "all that" because they've been dancing since they were like 3 or whatever, but it really bugs me when they think they're like AMAZING, and they're not. It's one think if they are good, but it's another if they're not.

danzachica16 well ive been dancing at a studio for 8 years out of my total nine years. ive met lots of ppl like that at my studio.thev been dancing longer than i have and they cant even do a 5th position rite and they hold ther hands like theyr going 2 strangle somebody also they pretend they do really good fouettes but they look like ther swimming plus ther all snobby I've met people who've been dancing all their lives and can't do fifth position, while I've never set foot in a studio and can do it perfectly. I find that ironic.

The people I know that have taken dance for a long time are pretty good. eek

 Everyone in my town is like that. I am just like OMFGJSDNHF?! Why even announce that you take dance classes, if you look like THAT?! They are all horrible, and are in the top of their school.
(I take class out of my town, about 20 minutes away)

When I first read this forum I said, oh i don't worry about that. Actually after coming home from dance today i realize i do.
The first thing this girl said to me when I met her "I've been dancing for 10 years" She is in 7 th grade. Her splits ( I shouldnt say that, sitting casually on the floor with back knee on the ground and front bent.) are atrocious, her feet... *Shudders* I couldn't believe that!
The thing is she just came from another studio to join ours, a studio that still treated them as 2 year olds and treated their parents as if they were millionaires. I think it is not so much as their boastfulness a complete fib and tragedy, its is they are immature in thinking that dance is always a competition and that they can look terrible. They can't.

Cap-n Jack so i take dance mainly at my public school.
which is the education kind of school, not a dance school. yeah <<;
ANYWAYS.
there are a lot of people my sister and i know of
that say they've been taking dance in studios for like, 8+ years and such
so you'd think they'd be pretty well-trained and stuff.
.....
BUT THEY SUCK

like, seriously, they can't even do a pirouette without getting at least half the technique wrong, their posse foot is all non-pointed, their posse's not even all the way up, their arms are everywhere, they fall out of a SINGLE...

It is possibe that they took other types of dance. I took tap for 4 years, acro for 1, and jazz for 2. Last year I did lyrical and I didn't know what half of the things I was suposed to do were. I was so bad that my teacher made me take a ballet cass as well as lyrical. So it's possible that these people may not have ever taken that type of dance before.

there are these little girl sthat i teahc and they said that they been singing.......eyas i know i siad sing but they would suck at dance.........anyway they told me they been singing since they were five form all these studios......and they suck...........
