"I... work at a video game store. My friend runs it." Basic answer at best, and it apparently hadn't dawned on him that Hoshi might have been meaning something else entirely.
And apparently the starkeeper was not the only one interested in those orbs, if the kits that lined up at Sei's feet, standing on their little backpaw in attempt to grap at the swirling purple shinies was to be of any indication.

"Ahh," Hoshi nodded, falling quiet a moment as he tried to figure out whether he'd put his foot in it. His attention was diverted by the kits currently watching the orbs, and he chuckled softly. "I think they like your orbs," he said quietly, hesitating a moment before reaching out one hand. "May I?"

"They like everything that moves and is shiny, as far as I can tell. I tend to fit both descriptions." The teen gave a faint, amused smile. Apparently he was no stranger to sharing his living space with at least one of the little creatures.
Hoshi's answer came in the form of one orb detaching itself from it's orbit and floating toward the outstretched dark hand, with no apparent intervention on Sei's part. Just as this happened, one of the kits started wriggling it's bottom in warning, and leaped for one of the orbs, only to have it teasingly dart out of it's reach, the kit letting out a faint yip-like sound before leaping once more.

"You've certainly mastered their use," Hoshi said, though he had no real idea whether mastered was actually the correct word. He cupped his hands as the orb floated to him, reaching out to finally take it from the air, holding it in one hand as he considered it. "You seem very comfortable with the... zurui?" Hoshi noted, for the moment simply weighing the orb, and feeling its texture. So very different from his stars, and yet so much the same. "Do you care for one?"

"I never really have to think about it much." Sei gave a light shrug. That was true that he rarely needed to think about his orbs unless he was putting up shields, or doing anything to take them off their orbit, so to speak.
"Oh, Zero has a bunch of them all over the house. I've learned not to step all over those tails."
"I assure you this was a long and hard lesson to learn..." Iris commented from where she was grooming her many tails.

Hoshi nodded, more interested in the orbs than the zurui, truth be told. "It takes time for anyone to get used to such things," he said simply, looking at the orb more closely for a moment before holding it back out to Sei. "Tell me more about yourself?" he entreated. "What you like? What you hate?"

Just as before, the orbs simply fluttered out of Hoshi's reach once he let it go, and not a second before, slowing floating back into place.... but then falling on the floor suddenly and zipping off, sending the small flurry of kits on a rampage in attempt of catching the shiny.
What his father said next caused the boy to hesitate for a second. He was not very good as describing himself... And what if his father found what he liked silly ? Little of that uncertainty shone thought in his blank eyes or his face, however. "I play video games, as you might have guessed. And... Models. You know, those wood plane models ?" ...Maybe it was a little silly. "Or I just bike around. And listen to music."
...Yes, amazing, wasn't it ? Well.

Hoshi turned all of those things over in his mind. He couldn't really remember ever touching video games or models, but he reasoned he might've, for the words themselves were familiar enough for him to know what they were. Perhaps... just perhaps...
"I don't remember doing models or video games when I was..." your age "younger. Perhaps you could teach me? Or at least show me the ones you like," he suggested with a smile. Anything, really, if it meant he got to know his son better. His son. The words still sent a little thrill of pride through him as he looked at Sei. "What sort of music do you listen to?"

"I..." Sei blinked, a smile drawing on his face, hint of an amusing thought making it's way in his mind. Not on my usual WoW server, no. "can see what can be done. The easy ones to begin with."
The rampage of kit was starting to slow down, but one perticular crafty one clawed his way on the boy's pants legs and into his lap to bat at the floating orbs. One gloved hand reached to stroke the beast's fur, but there was something odd about how the boy did not look up from the little zurui, or with the way he just barely touched it. Almost as if he was afraid he may break the little creature... or if he did not feel it at all.

"Easy might be best. At least to start with," Hoshi agreed easily, his own eyes tracking that hand thoughtfully. Something felt... not off, precisely. Not wrong. But different. Unexpected, and in a way he couldn't quite put his hand on. "Have you had to make many adjustments to others, since you've been here?" he asked, the wording to the question careful. Those eyes alone would've garnered at least some interest, even among the wildly varied denizens of Gaia. But the way Sei touched... walked... sounded when he moved...

Adjustment ? The question seemed to take the boy off-guard, as if he was not noticing what he was doing, or if it was such a part of his daily routine that he simply did not think of it anymore.
"Not really... ? Well, I guess not having like... wings or something like that helps. I've lost a few jobs because of my eyes, they... sometime creep people out, I guess."

"Your eyes are very unique," Hoshi nodded, looking at them thoughtfully. "I confess, it occurred to me that you might be somewhat blind, though that really made no sense to me, since Zero didn't seem to worry about you riding here." Thankfully, there was one thing that was definitely true. "Still... there's a place for all of us, somewhere here in Gaia, right?"

"Ah, no, im not blind in the least." He said, managing a smile in hope to lighten the mood. Seeing had never been a problem, even if his vision wasn't completely amazing either.
"There's certainly a whole lot of me that's... different." It was a bridge that was to be crossed one day, right ? Better to be upfront than to leave him to guess, which... he thought might have been one of the things that drove Shina off. "But..." I don't usually let people close enough to see them. "Most people don't notice."

Hoshi nodded at that, hearing the hesitancy to the words and considering his own carefully. "It's my hope," he said at last, "that eventually we'll be closer than most. I know I've been absent for a lot of your life, but it was never by choice, Sei. I'd like to know more about my son. As much as you're willing to share," he added, his voice firm.
He held out one hand toward Sei, the offer of a shake the only thing he could think of to do to show Sei how much he meant his words.

Sei found himself staring at that hand for a moment, before hesitantly reaching out with his own. Again with his glance locked on it, and again with a touch so light that one might misinterpret as hesitation, even though nothing of it showed in the rest of his posture and expression.
"Im not perfect." Most likely not the son you thought you would have... "But I will... try. Do my best. It's odd, I looked for you... I've often found myself wondering what might happen today. But now that you are in front of me, it's like none of the things I've thought I would say or do quite matter anymore..."
That alone, was more than he would have said to most.
