one correction Dkelpto

the moves are onyl likely to pass if the male pokemon knows them, So Male Honchkrow(darkpulse) and Female Murkrow Male Honch with pass dark pulse into the egg, regardless if Female knows it

also to clarify the everstone thing is 50% on the dot, and when using ditto and a female, OR ditto and another genderless, equip it to the ditto

Actually, it seems we're both half right! I dug out my National Pokedex guide, which has a very detailed section on breeding, and according to that, the egg pokemon acquires moves as follows:

1. Level-up Moves: If both parents know the same level-up move, it can be passed to the baby pokemon.

2. Egg Moves: Baby pokemon can learn egg moves automatically or from a parent.

3. TMs or HMs: If the male parent knows a TM or HM, that move may be passed to the offspring.

The example they give, they used a female Garchomp and a male Dragonite, and describe the moves the baby gets as follows:

"Since both parents in this example have the move Dragon Rush, the baby Gible will inherit the move. It will aslo inherit Outrage from the father since Outrage is one of Gible's potential Egg Moves. Finally, the father passes TM 26 Earthquake to the baby Pokemon. If Gible has room to learn another move, it will learn the Level-1 attack Tackle."

In my example, I believe I was incorrect. This was an instance from my Diamond game, which I haven't checked in on recently. In that instance, I believe Murkrow *did* learn Dark Pulse from the father, since I don't think the female Murkrow can learn it without evolving. I really need to go back and check the details of that, though. All I really remember was that I was surprised that the newly hatched Murkrow knew such strong moves. It was one of the rare instances where I bred a male and female of the same type instead of breeding them with Ditto.

whoa this breeding is more detailed than I thought. I never really paid much attention. I need to go back and review some of my egg Pokemon.

half right isnt the term i'd use

If the female know the level-up moves, and mates with a ditto, then the level-up moves will be passed down

otherwise all you need is a male pokemon and a female of his breed to get a possibly better one by hatching them

of course Dragon Rush gible would be nice, but considering, Grachomp learns that later on, it would make more sense only to breed for EQ

and you can do that with a male lv36 Torterra w/earthquake + Female Gible

mt one namely problem: is i need a glallade with will-o-whisp and yeah i know shuppet + ralts, but uh yeah, it's not passing it down for some reason, and yes shuppet is male and knows it

So what moves are you getting in the baby Ralts when you breed it?

And have you tried teaching TM 61 to the Ralts you're breeding? Apparently you can get it in the Battle Frontier in Platinum.

You might also try breeding Ralts with a Duskull? Most of the pokemon in the Amorphous Egg group like Ralts can learn Will-o-whisp as a Egg move, but it seems Shuppet and Duskull are the only ones that learn it by leveling up.

the one and only ralts move at that level, growl, and rarely a shadow ball

and trust me Ralts to kirlia to Gradveior to Gallade can only learn it by egg move, thus why i cant just teach it even with TM,

I see what you mean, now. Still, if it's possible for Ralts to learn it as an egg move, there *has* to be a way to make it transfer. You just might have to breed a lot of them! sweatdrop

What are the moves of the two parents anyway? Shadow Ball is a TM move, so if they're getting that occasionally, maybe try breeding with one that doesn't know it? In other words, eliminate the possibilties, so that Will-o-wisp is the *only* move that might transfer.

I have a question now that I have a couple of ditto Pokemon and all of the starter Pokemon. How long will it take for them to make an egg and if it does happen will the baby be a ditto or one of the starter Pokemon? Also how many steps will it take to hatch it?

I been trying to use Google and I re-read this thread. I know I have a pretty good chance seeing as how the Starter Pokemon were also from eggs via GTS still. I don't want to waste money leveling up Pokemon that might not breed.

*(Aww Heck slaps hiself with the idiot hammer, at mach 2 million)*

Why did i not think of that D, you may have just aided me in a way i simply cannot repay

i love will-o-whsip, and i love gallade, and gardevoir, to have them all together would be awesome and this paves the way!

and to answer Miss dark
it depends upon the message, the more they like each other, the quicker the egg comes
thre's three levels
Superfast (dont know emssage)
normal(seem to get along)
Slow(dont like each other much)

and one final: never(prefer other pokemon)

and fi using ditto, the egg will be whatever was not the ditto

No problem, I just hope it works!!

And Miss, I'm not sure the exact number of steps required to hatch, but I just hatched a Poliwag last night that took 2,874 steps (I used the counter to check). However, I had a Magby in my party that had the Flame Body ability, so that made the egg hatch a little faster. If you don't have a pokemon with Flame Body, you should expect it to take at least 3,000 steps.

Oh and since Ditto is genderless I can breed two of them huh? That kind of suck I would like baby Dittos
