I'm acutally more in favor of stats and dice (at least for spells) it gives them a less freeform style, yes, but it also prevents people from equating magic power with godmoding. if there is a more strict set of rules with difinitave advantages and drawbacks, people won't be using magic as an excuse not to die or an excuse to be able to do insanely powerful stuff.
on that note, I also think that we should have a stat for hit points too. I base this preference on the fact that it allows people to see exsactly how much pain they or the people around them are in at any given time. obviously this won't matter that much for roleplaying, but during fight scenes and such, it's good to be able to tell who's winning.

I don't like the sound of that. Mostly because it sounds so restrictive, and WoG GMs & Moderators aren't going to be there to keep the peace during every little PC fight. Not that they have to, but ugh it sounds ugly. And because fights are still considered role playing, are they not? So I still leave it within a WoGger's control.
We're not letting idiots into WoG. Truewind and I will personally be scanning the Bios and viewing potential members RP samples. WoG revovles around trust and enjoyment of RPing. I don't think I'd enjoy a number based restricted HP limit thing.

I understand what you mean about the restrictiveness, and perhaps hit points would be a tad overboard, but I still think there should be a couple restrictions set up. if done properly it could actually add a further element of challenge to the role playing itself.
