"Well, I really should..." Turin was about to explain how he needed to get back to his duties. How he'd already been gone far too long. That the Queen needed him, that he needed to be on-hand to protect her from danger...
...and somehow all that seemed to fade away with one sad comment.
Crap.
After an obviously longer than necessary pause, Turin sighed and continued speaking, as if finishing his earlier sentence. "...but, I've been gone this long. I don't suppose a little longer would hurt."
The Captain was overly serious and socially awkward...not heartless. Even he couldn't leave after a comment like that. No matter how much he knew he needed to get back to the Queen's side. For now, he'd have to trust that Lady Aeroniel could keep the Queen out of any potentially dangerous situations until he could return to her.
He could give this young woman one day, right? She seemed nice enough, if lonely, and it certainly wouldn't tear him up to spend a little time with her. Right?

"Really? You'll stay with me? But what about the Queen?" Kelebek bounces a little, making her hair sway even more. She's rather reminiscent of a puppy, absolutely ecstatic for any attention she gets.
"Oh, I just knew going to that party was going to be a good idea! I'm having the best night and day of my life!"
Never in her life had Kelebek had such fun. Well, there was the day she'd found a clownfish to keep as a pet, but her parents had made her release it after a day.
She'd realized since waking up that last night's activities had been heavily influenced by the sweet drink, though she herself hadn't had much. Enough to not make her realize that his actions were not necessarily his own.
Still, the fact that he was still here, and had agreed to spend more time with her surely meant something. Right?

"Well, I'll have to get back later to check in on her..." he started, then worried that she'd get upset again, hurried to add "...but, I've already been gone all night. A little longer won't make that much of a difference. I guess."
What have I gotten myself into? That's it...no more land-dweller drinks.
Ever.
Still...the way she was acting...perhaps he needed to say something.
"Kel? Err...Kelebek?" he corrected himself, not feeling right being so informal, especially with what he was going to say. "I'm...not entirely sure what happened last night. I mean, I am, but...perhaps I'm not sure why." Awkward. How come no matter how he tried to say this, it came out sounding...harsh?
"Maybe...it'd be a better idea if I ask you what you think happened last night?"

She blinks at him for a half-second before cracking. "Augh!" exclaims Kelebek, hiding her face in her hands. "I knew it was too good to be true! When you came over to talk to me I thought you were just being polite but then you started calling me that sweet nickname and telling me how pretty I was and I thought 'oh, this is it!'" She breathes in quickly, the words spilling from her mouth.
"And then you took me back here....and what a night it was!" For a moment the dreamy quality comes back to her voice, and her eyes shine. "But I should have known. Gods and little fishes, I really am the village idiot."

"Err..." Okay, not exactly the response Turin had expected. That was a little more...'dramatic.' Also, for the first time in his life that he could recall, he was thankful for his bright coloring, considering the flush creeping into his face at the moment.
Coughing into his fist to interrupt, Turin broke in, "Alright, I think I get the picture now." More than he wanted to hear really. Too much information being shared. "I'll admit," he started, sheepishly rubbing his neck. "I think I had a bit much to drink. Something weird about that land-dweller drink though..." No time to think on that right now. Just...never drink any ever again.
Still looking completely awkward, the captain continued, muttering, "Look, it's just...I don't do this sort of thing. Not normally. It's...it's not me, that's all."

Kelebek sighs softly. "Oh, now I've made you feel bad," she says, running a hand through her hair. "I'm sorry, I just....well, I don't have many friends and I was so hopeful..."
She leans back and lets the current carry her gently. "That was a very strange land-dweller drink. I wonder if that's a custom up there. Odd folk."
"So what do we do now?"

Granted, Turin did feel bad, but...he hadn't meant to make her feel bad in return! Crap, he really had no idea how to deal with things like this. Security was his forte...not social situations, especially not the majorly awkward ones.
"I just...didn't want you to get the wrong idea, is all," he muttered. "I don't just...go up to random women and..." He paused. "Not that you're random. I mean, sorta', but not...I didn't mean that in a bad way." He cringed at his own rambling.
"I really suck at this."
He sighed, frustrated with himself and the whole situation. About ready to give up, the Aernyn captain dropped his head into his hands. His voice was muffled, but he spoke again.
"I don't...really get out much. With other people. Sorry."

Hurt as she was, Kelebek has to admit she's touched by Turin's candidness and honesty. "Me neither, really," she agrees, holding her chin in her hand.
"Well," she begins, looking over at him. She blows her hair out of her face, making bubbles flutter up toward the surface. "Maybe we could practice on each other. I bet at least the ladies at court would pay more attention to you if you knew some more social graces," she tries helpfully.
"I just want a friend."

Having tensed at first at the mention of 'practicing on each other', Turin forced himself to relax at the explanation. Mind in the gutter, Captain...
Honestly, he wasn't really that concerned with whether or not the ladies of the court paid him much attention. ...well...except one, but...no. Still, his coloring got him more than enough attention. Not of the good kind. Usually of the mocking kind.
Still, he knew she meant well, so he smiled in response. "A friend would be nice. And about earlier...sorry for making you feel bad about...this. I didn't mean to."

"It isn't your fault," she says kindly. "It's a rather...awkward situation." She shrugs helplessly. "But I would love to be friends. It's nice to have someone to talk to, you know?" She smiles softly.
Well, even if he didn't want to continue what they'd started the night before, she still had the experience, and nothing could take that away from her, she thinks with some amount of pride.

Turin chuckled sheepishly, still feeling more than a bit awkward. "Thanks. And yeah, that'd be great. If you need to talk sometime, I suppose I'm not hard to find, really. The court isn't exactly all that secretive."
He chuckled again, feeling a bit more relaxed...but still awkward with the whole 'socializing' thing. Especially with the knowledge of what had gone on the night before. That wasn't exactly the sort of thing one did, THEN decided to be friends. Not normally.
In a way, however, it had forced him to create a relationship of some sort at least. Maybe that wasn't such a bad thing.

Kelebek giggles her agreement and nods. "I will." She's flushed pink (not that you can tell) with happiness and excitement.
"But I suppose I should let you go get back to the Queen," she says, fidgeting with a piece of her hair anxiously. "Friends?"

Turin nodded, rising from his seat. "I suppose I really should check in." He watched her fidget and hid a frown. But still...he needed to get back...
"Of course. Friends." Smiling, he shifted back into court official mode, more comfortable oddly with the traditions and practice. He reached out for her hand, taking it in his. Then, with a bow, he kissed the back of her hand before rising. "If milady would excuse me..."
With another smile, the Captain nodded and turned to swim off in the direction of the court.
How'd he get into these situations again? He could only bet Sadron would have something to say after the Captain had disappeared for an entire night...

[*ahem* TIME! IT HAS PASSED!]
It's with a worried frame of mind that Kelebek finally decides to seek Turin out again. He had said that if she ever needed to talk to come find him in the court. She just...hadn't wanted their next meeting to be on such determinedly awkward terms.
She'd never really been to court before, and the occasions she had it'd been packed with people. So to see it now, on a normal day, was a bit disconcerting. As she's looking around and up and down she bumps into at least two people. "Sorry!" she always says, blushing, before watching them shake their heads and go on their ways. Ordinarily she'd feel worse about her clumsiness, but today she has bigger things to worry about.
Now where was he?

At least here in the court, Turin could relax...somewhat. Moreso at least than when the Queen took it upon herself to go exploring strange new surface lands and such. For now, Queen Tariel and Lady Aeroniel were off dealing with...whatever it was they did, while Turin ran security details and patrols. He never worried too much on the details of what the women were doing, as his train of thought ran primarily on keeping them safe.
While making his way down the hall to check in on the latest perimeter patrol, a somewhat familiar voice caught his attention. He had a pretty small list of voices that he'd recognize on any sort of personal level, and that knowledge made him freeze and look around. Waving, coral-colored hair...it had to be her...
The Captain had an easier time making his way through the normal traffic of the hall, moving always towards the mass of flowing pink and white hair. He reached out a hand for her shoulder, hoping not to scare her while trying to steer her out of the main traffic flow. "Kelebek?"
