"Well if he doesn't see you for a while he might become worried for you. There are a lot of dangers in the forest who prey on a little one such as yourself." He tried to explain softly.

Zareth then snorted lightly. "I'm a girl," he muttered, "No matter what I look like," yet he paused processing the last bit the filly had said. "You think I have pretty hair?" he beamed.

"She looks like your daddy?" Kireina questioned. "So... then stallions look like Zareth... But how do you tell them apart from mares? D=" The green mare was so confused now. She really needed to meet more Kirin and figure out how their kind operated.

Nyhali cringed just slightly at Zareth's obviously displeased behavior. "So you're a girl..." She... he? Hrm. Zareth looked big and stuff like her daddy... but was a girl? So... she suddenly brightened. "You're just extra big and strong and a girl!" It was a simple enough answer, and it was something she understood. When she was older she'd probably realize precisely what was going on if she bumped into Zareth again, but by that point it probably wouldn't be an issue.

She nodded emphatically at Zareth's question. "Very pretty! I wish mine was long enough to get put up all pretty like that..." She pouted slightly before quirking her ears forward and looking thoughtful at the new question posed by Kireina. "Umm... most mares look like you, and most stallions are a lot bigger and stronger like. And um... they're not as pretty? They look and act a lot more... stallion-ish. And they're not girls." She smiled proudly and pranced in a circle. She was so smart and helpful!

A very excitable one she was. He nodded lightly. "That I am. Well maybe once you get older your hair will get longer and then we can try getting it like this," He replied.

"Ah, ok!" Kireina replied with a smile. "Thank you for explaining that to me." It was a bit sad that this foal knew more than she did about such basic things, but it was not as if Kireina was without excuse. She had never met a stallion before after all. (Or so she thought.)

Little Nyhali positively glowed at the thought that she might be able to get her hair up in a pretty braid when she had more of it. "Can we?!" She pranced a happy circle around Zareth before trotting over to lean on Kireina's leg. "If my daddy was here you could see what's different... I wonder if I could go find him? I mean I'm not really playing tag anymore right now so it wouldn't matter if he found me, right?" She couldn't be tagged when she wasn't playing, could she?

The foal's worries were soon made irrelevant, however, as Rikki pushed his way through a bush and into view of the stream and those standing on its opposite bank. Though relief was plain on his face he seemed surprised and concerned that his daughter had stumbled across a pair of strangers to make friendly with. They hadn't hurt her, though, and she was making friendly with them so he decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. He crossed the stream and went straight over to her, checking her over for any signs of damage before nuzzling her gently. "Nyhali where have you been?!" His tone, while not angry, was certainly worried.

Nyhali had moved away from Kireina and toward the stream when Rikki started across, but the bright look on her face quickly drifted into a contrite one as her ears pinned themselves back at his tone. Maybe the green lady had been right... "M'sorry, Daddy... I was just trying to play tag really good!"

"You did... but... it's not a good idea to run too far off. Especially when I don't know where you went. I wouldn't want someone bad to steal you or hurt you, and you wouldn't either, right?" He smiled tiredly as she gave an apologetic nod and tucked herself between his legs. "And who did you meet out here today, Ny?"

"Um. Two pretty girls!" She pointed her nose at Zareth. "She's a big, strong girl! Not a stallion. She said so." The filly nodded sagely at that. "And she has pretty hair! She has pretty hair too," she pointed towards Kireina, "It's just not as pretty."

Rikki looked from one to the other, then back to Zareth, raising an eyebrow but letting the obvious question slide. He supposed if a stallion wanted to go around thinking he was a mare he was allowed to do so. "I take it she forgot to introduce herself or ask for names?" He rolled his eyes slightly. "I'm Erikkeni, but most people call me Rikki. This is Nyhali, one of my daughters. Thanks for keeping her entertained..." He didn't say the obvious addition of "so she didn't run into something dangerous".

Kireina was a bit surprised at the stallion's appearance, and her initial thought was, Wow. He certainly was an handsome creature, and she could see where the filly had gotten her fiery mane from. After the initial shock wore off however, the mare could definitely see why Zareth had been mistaken for one of these "stallions." There was certainly a large resemblance in many ways. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Rikki," she replied with a smile after he had made introductions. "My name is Kireina, and this is Zareth. And don't worry, she was no trouble at all." She really rather enjoyed the happy filly's company.

"Yes we can try if you like," He replied softly back smiling down at the filly. Zareth's eyes widen, yes he could defiantly see the resemblance of the two. "Its a pleasure to make your acquaintance," he replied giving a small bow of his head to the male.

"It really was no trouble at all, quite refreshing to see a young one with so much energy. We have been traveling a bit" He spoke with a small nod of his head. "She does remind me of when I first met Kireina,"

He had to admit he'd been wondering what the relationship was between the two strangers, but it seemed that it was a familial bond. Mother/daughter... of a sort. He could understand that, at least. His family was large and extended beyond his blood relations. He smiled and nodded a bit. "Most foals seem to have a few things in common. Playfulness and lack of sense for example."

"But I am scentable, Daddy!"

He tried very hard not to laugh. "You sure, fuzztail? You take an awful lot after me."

Nyhali frowned for a moment and then stuck out her tongue. "Suuuuure Daddy.

"Are you two traveling anywhere in particular, or just going where the wind takes you?" Just the thought made his hooves itch to go journeying again. Curse of being born to a nomadic family, he supposed. Though they had a home territory of sorts back in the mountains now, they all still had that itch to wander around... and he'd wandered farther than most had for a while, and look where it had gotten him! Heh. Not that being a father or having a beautiful mate was at all a bad thing...

Kireina had to fight down a few giggles when the filly referred to herself as "scentable." She was just too cute! "Nope, we just pretty much travel wherever we please," the mare answered with a smile. "Well, mostly anyway. Zareth insists that we stay near water of some form or another." At least water that was deep enough to bathe in. Shallow streams were fine for drinking, but the pink stallion was quite adamant about needing his daily baths.

A sheepish smile seemed to cross Zareth's face when Kireina mentioned that he had to be near water. The foal was adorable. "Well we do have to stay near water," Zareth replied finally speaking. "Not just for my bathing but for a for sure source of water."

"Water is veeeeeeery important!" the filly stated, every so seriously nodding her head. "It's good for drinking and so we don't get stinky."

Rikki swallowed yet another snort of laughter. "Definitely." He grinned at the other two before giving his daughter a nudge back in the direction they'd come from. "We should get back, fuzztail, before we worry your mother any more than we already have."

Nyhali got wide-eyed at that. Momma was worried too? But she'd just been playing! "Yes, Daddy..."

Rikki smiled back at the two travelers before turning to lead his daughter home. "If you're ever in traveling in the area again, or up toward the Cresent Mountains, feel free to drop by and say hello. I've got family up there, and they usually love pleasant company."

Aw, they were leaving already? Sad. But then again, if they had a family waiting for them then it was probably best for them to return. "We'll definitely keep that in mind," Kireina replied with a happy smile. "It was a pleasure to meet you both. Hopefully we'll see each other again in the future then."

"Yes it was a pleasure to meet you," Zareth replied with a small bow of his head and a small smile. "When we are in the area next we will be sure to stop by," he paused a bit. "Good bye and be safe little one, we shall meet again," He was quite positive about it.

With one more round of farewells Rikki made sure Nyhali was following him and then headed across the stream and back into the trees, leading the way back from whence they'd originally appeared. Nyhali looked back and gave one last exuberant little leap, promptly getting her nose stuck in a bush for a moment before Rikki shook her free and they disappeared in the shadows beneath the branches.
