I've never really hated Raoul...my opinion's alway been something along the lines of "eh..."
I like Erik roughly a thousand times more, of course (...but if I had been Christine I would have gone with the Perisan...>_>), though I never really thought Raoul did anything wrong.
Still, it is fun to make fun of him. X3

I don't think it's really Raoul everyone hates - I think it's the fact that he's portrayed as the "Knight-In-Shining-Armor." Most guys are like, "Hah, yeah right, he's such a p***y," and most girls want the bad boys nowadays.
Raoul always seemed pompous to me - it doesn't help that my friend who got me into PotO doesn't really like him. I think the only reason Christine when with him was because Erik was too... much. People get put off when someone they admire absolutely adores them. Smothering Affection = Bad in many cases.
Raoul was just a safer choice - he was 100% pretty, wasn't feared by anyone, was respected and liked, and had the means to support her. She obviously didn't know about Erik's dragon-horde of moolah, or else she might've thought a little more.
