”I think Erutis actually likes Krayon,” Raenef decided, showing a rare display of the insight that rested below the dazzling cute surface. “If she didn’t, she would have actually tried to kill him by now. She is a skilled swordmaster, and she’s only getting stronger with each day.”

”Perhaps you are right,” Eclipse agreed, a small smile gracing his lips. He had ceased being shocked by these moments Raenef had. Though they did reconfirm Eclipse’s knowledge that the young lord was merely innocent and naive, no longer a simpleton.

”So nothing really no with Erutis and Krayon,” Raenef summed up, rocking on his heels a bit. “At least not that you can think of. What about Chris?”

”His training seems to be progressing well,” Eclipse answered, carelessly. It still disturbed him slightly that his lord was such good friends with a priest, but he had accepted it a long time ago. After all, not all priests were, as Krayon would put it, ‘holier than thou.’ Chris, while annoying at times, did have his moments. “He still declares himself a genius to whomever will listen.”

”That I do not know,” Eclipse admitted. “You will have to ask him. Perhaps in a letter?”

”Yeah!” Raenef agreed happily. He turned on his heel and started to race off to do just that when something occurred to him and his shoulders dropped dejectedly. “Oh, but how will I send it to him?”

”I could deliver it, if you like?” Eclipse offered, carelessly. He didn’t much like the idea of returning to the holy lands, but it wouldn’t bother him to do so. It wasn’t that far out of his way when he did his monthly reports to the council.

”You’d be gone for even longer, then,” Raenef pouted, clearly not liking the idea either.

Warmth flooded through Eclipse at the thought that Raenef would miss him. He started to remind himself that Raenef probably only missed the company, but just as quickly chided himself for foolishness. He was not some lovesick puppy that was blind to the affections aimed at him. He knew that Raenef cared for him, and that he was truly missed when he was gone. After all, Raenef still expressed concern over his absences even when Erutis and Chris had been living within the castle.
“Perhaps arrange something with Erutis?” Eclipse suggested, tucking a stray bit of hair behind Raenef’s ear. Such small affections had gradually been becoming second nature to him.

Eclipse chuckled, amused rather than annoyed at Raenef’s inability to follow what he thought was a simple path. “She has a band of mercenaries for hire, yes?” he reminded his lord. “Perhaps she would be willing to lend one to you as a messenger to her and Chris. Or have some other solution to offer.”
