Change?

Obstacle??
Do elaborate!?

I went windsurfing today, it was fun. I kicked butt comparatively. Though I had a big board..which makes balancing much easier. XP

Bout a 3 or 4 months ago I was in Borders and i was looking around the history section. I have always had a long deep rooted fascination with History which is why i am a History major mind you. However i never really had any sort of direction. i knew a little about the Greeks the Romans the Egyptians about American history about a lot of different wars etc...etc...but no one period really seemed to captivate me fully.
Then I found This

I read this book from cover to cover and 3 chapters into it i knew i had found the area of history i wanted to dedicate my life to. The History of Piracy and Privateering. Ever since i have been gathering as much information as I possibly can. click on the deviant art link in my sig and look at my recent work and you will see how deep this goes.

As for the obstacle I overcame After 3 attempts I finally passed Statistics meaning i never have to take a math class as long as i live.

I've heard of one of them.

And good job on the statistics! >.< I'm going to be having that class as an elective soon...you need it if you want to possibly become a Nurse Practitioner (Kinda like a nurse with a prescription pad).

Also!

>=3 thank you for asking now i get to have a lot of fun.

Inaccuracies of Pirates of the Caribbean (warning this will be long but the information is a lot of fun.)

1.The Island of Tortuga. Yes It was a Pirate port but not quiet the type of port portrayed in the movie the Pirates of Tortuga were french for the most part rather than English.

2. The Black Pearl and other ships in the movie. Pirate Ships were Almost never the size of the Black Pearl The Dauntless or the Flying Dutchman. Ships such as those were limited to a few and usually were the flag ship of a Pirate fleet rather than a solo vessel A few examples of such ships are The Whydah ('Black' Sam Bellamy), The Fancy (The Pirate King Henry Avery) and The Queen Anne's Revenge (Blackbeard)

3. Buried Treasure or Treasure in General. The concept of Burried treasure was born mostly in myths or from the fact that if Pirates were seen approaching a town locals would bury their valuables and often military personal would do the same with the valuables they had on there ships or were carrying by other means.

4. Port Royal. Jamaica was one of the first English settlements in the western world and from the mid 1600s to the early 1700s Port Royal was not only one of the Major Cities of the Island but one of the most Prosperous and valuable cities in the entire world sitting at a strategically opportune location for The English to interrupt Spanish trade and prosper with trade of their own. But it was not quite the civilized place you see in the movies. Port Royal has been noted as one of the Cruelest Places in the world. In the 1690s an earthquake sank half the city into the ocean and it now sits still intact at the bottom of the sea. The rest of the city burned to the ground in the early 1700s.

5. Pirate Captains and the Pirate Code. Pirate Captains rarely if ever commanded in the brutal and authoritative manner that you see in Pirates of the Caribbean and in the character of Hector Barbosa. Pirate life was a life of pure democracy. One that would put any modern day democracy to shame. Everything Pirates did was by vote and all plunder shared equally among the entire crew. with the captain getting 1 extra share the first mate getting 1 1/2 shares and the cabin boy getting half a share. Pirates also received compensation for injuries and acts of bravery. The only time a Captain on a Pirate ship had any form of Absolute power was in a time of battle. A captain was little better than the rest of his crew and could be voted out and replaced at any moment. As a result Captains would sometimes take measure to remind their crews exactly who they were and why they were captain.

6. The Brethren Court. There was no actual Brethren Court but the pirates in the Caribbean referred to themselves as Brethren of the Coast. The island they met on was similar in concept to the island of Nassau also known as New Providence an English colony taken over by pirates in the Early 1700s and became a society of pirates that lasted several years.

7. Treatment of Prisoners: For the most part the treatment of Captives by Pirates was actually extremely Humane Blackbeard himself has never once been recorded in harming a single prisoner and often times Pirate captors treated their captives so well then men women and even children jumped at the opportunity to join the crews causing Pirate crews to grow in number with every capture as people found the treatment the pirates gave them to be preferable to the treatment of their own captains and companions. This includes the case of a 9 year old boy who threatened his mother with suicide if she did not allow him to go with the pirates. Often times a few skilled men who possessed talents the ships where in need of such as carpentry or medicine would be forced into the crew and more often than not find they preferred their new lives as pirates.
However there where exceptions a few captains were extremely cruel captains took to the torture and abuse of captives in order to extract information though in the world of Pirates this was less common
Pirate Ships also flew two separate flags. the more famous black flag which made the statement surrender and no unnecessary harm shall come to you. And the lesser known but greatly feared red flag which meant usually do to a ships resistance that when the Pirates caught their prey they would kill everyone and spare no one. For the most part though Pirates preferred the methods of Intimidation or even stealth to excessive violence.

8. Walking the Plank. There actually is not a single recorded instance of walking the plank. the only similar occurrence that ever happened involved instead the pirates merely throwing crew members over the edge of the ship as punishment for resistance to capture.

Not really no because even though murder was often saved as a last resort other practices such as the use of terror burning ships to the water cutting down masts and tossing any unwanted cargo overboard were common practice.
Torture was a common practice in the world of pirates in cases where prisoners resisted and withheld information. Everything from methods such as the rack, tying a pair of sticks around a mans head and twisting them tighter till his eyes popped from his skull, burning fuses between a man's fingers and even setting a man's eyelashes on fire.
However as cruel as many of these treatments were the treatment that many received under their governments was worse. Being Beaten and whipped, Starving, Going months or even years without seeing a paycheck and being forced into service by the understaffed English navy not seeing there homes for even years at a time.
Meanwhile being a pirate held the promise of food, brotherhood, equal treatment, a payoff that was greater than an honest working man of the day would see in his entire life. Pirates came from every culture, race, religion and walk of life providing a truly equal and non opressive society for those looking to escape oppression.
