Leonard McCoy

McCoy snorted gently. Things weren’t going his way and he sure as hell knew that he’d be apart of the party to beam aboard the cargo ship if there proved to be any survivors. He side glanced towards the nurse with a raised brow.

“OH well, thanks anyway..I prefer to get surprised by Starfleet and its damn regulations of shoving s**t my way…” physicals every three months? That’d put him behind a couple of months on his medical filing, unless he decided to shove it on the interns.

One quick look their way and the answer was a ‘hell no and not even when pigs fly’. They could on the planet Norf, but that was an entirely different story. He set the data pad down on the desk, rubbing his brow. “Hrm? That’s in the second draw, top cabinet on the left…” it came out automatically like a robot. “If not..since the ship had been refitted….I’d check the back room…”

Then it accrued to him, “Why are you needing that?”

All I have left is my bones..

Lieutenant Nyota Uhura....

Uhura's gaze fell to Spock. He seemed to have tensed up at Sulu's request on a date.
So... he had to have returned her feelings. She wanted to get up and follow him but she had duties...

She knew he was lying when he had said the captain was in need of him, because it was the captain that which left him in charge of the bridge.
She sighed and composed herself.
She would have to speak with Spock later. Why was he so on edge lately? it wasn't normal for him to get upset over something so small...
It worried her.

Sulu quirked an eyebrow and returned to what he was doing.
"The offer still stands Lieutenant." He heaved a sigh and smiled.

"I'll be right back..." Uhura totally ignored his comment and approached the same door that Spock had went out of. Hopefully she'd be able to catch him.

"Spock?" She called out as the doors opened.

She gave McCoy a quick smile before pointing to the infirmary. "One of our patients burned himself with hot boiling water and I need to apply some to his face before the blisters break." She hurried to the drawer that he specified and removed a white canister.
"Oh, thank you Doctor." She slipped on a fresh pair of latex gloves and then hurried into the infirmary.

She took a wooden Popsicle sticks and removed some of the silvery substance. She then stepped over to the patients bedside and applied the cream onto his face as if she were buttering a bagel.
"There you go... it should stop the pain in about... a minute or 2." the nurse gave the man her trademark smile.

He had just turned the corner, heading to the lift when his ears picked up Uhura’s voice. Spock was not inclined to stay and chat but knew she would not give up. Just like her cadet days, she was concerned about the well beings of others. She had shown him such feelings and in time, he had accepted it.

Turning on the heels of his boots, he approached the lieutenant. His expression solemn and unrevealing of his feelings, though his eyes gave away to the turmoil he fought inside. Standing in front of the young woman, his gaze lingered downward.

“Lieutenant, you were not relieved of your duties.” His voice came out harsher than he had intended. Spock lowered his voice, “It would seem prudent to not have done this. You would have people talking.” Spock was not big on having his personal life on display anywhere. He was still protective of his emotions, to keep them in check.

With the sudden absence of Uhura, Spock, and the captain; Janice let her guard down. She tilted her head back and ran a hand through hair placing a large portion of it over a shoulder. She rubbed her temple as she let out a sigh. IT was getting boring on the bridge. She remembered being in her living room watching the starfleet instructional tape watching how jam packed with excitement it was. And here she was living the dream, and nothing. She shrugged and continued tapping buttons and watching more security feeds Catching a glance on the clock on her screen she noticed it was only a couple of her minutes until her break. She finally smiled.

"Neither were you." When the Vulcan had said she hadn't been relieved of her duties. She grabbed him by the wrist and pulled him into the elevator. She flipped the camera switch off and let the doors close behind them. This was the only way they could get any sort of privacy.

"You worried me... " She looked down. "and It seemed as if you were troubled.. well.. by the fact Helmsman Sulu asked me out on.. a date."

"Does it trouble you...? and be honest..."

“Level five.” Spock replied coolly. His gaze shifted towards Uhura knowing full well she would stop the elevator; therefore he did it for her. It came to a swift halt. The half-vulcan did not look at her when she spoke of what she presumed was the cause of his ‘discomfort’.

Spock inclined his head towards Uhura. He held his robotic like calm, only a tension around his eyes giving away that he was agitated. “Your observation of me would be in error, Lieutenant.”

He would not, or could not inform Uhura what was truly toubling him. She could not grasp it, no human could. “It does not trouble me that Lieutenant Sulu would ask you on a date..I have believed you required more affection to which I…am unable to give you.” He reached over and started the elevator again. “The helmsman on the other hand, can…”

“Level five.” The computerized voice chimed as the doors parted.
“…It was not my intent to offend you,” Spock said sincerely after a brief pause, looking back towards her before taking his leave of the elevator.

She wanted to stop him. To tell him she had no interest in Sulu, but she just couldn't bring herself to upset him more. She sighed and pulled the lever back up. "Bridge..." She pressed her thumb and index finger to her temple and rubbed it.

She really hoped he was alright.

The elevator came to the bridge, and the doors opened. The Lieutenant stepped onto the bridge and resumed her station. "Alright... 5 minutes until we come out of warp and arrive at our destination. Should we inform the captain...?"

Sulu nodded. "I'll page him." He pulled out his communicator. "Captain, sir. We are almost here. Should we assemble a landing party....?"

The tablet pen tumbled off the bridge of his nose when his communicator beeped. Frowning, Kirk sat up straight, snatching the device off his desk. “Kirk here……I’ll be on the bridge in a moment…Kirk out.” He shut it off, leaving his quarters. The brisk walk to the bridge was uneventful.
He smiled, one corner of his mouth up higher in a lopsided smirk. “Miss me?” he walked past Uhura’s station before jumping into his chair, getting comfortable. Kirk paused with his mouth a-gap when he turned around, glancing towards the science console and noticed that Spock was not at his station.

Kirk shot Uhura a worried glance before remembering his orders were needed to move along. “Sulu, once we drop out of warp…I want the cargo ship thoroughly scanned for any signs of bullshit before the landing party beams aboard.” He leaned back in his chair, and used the control panel on his armrest.

“Mr Scott, I want you and two of your best officers with you. Meet in the transporter room in ten minutes….Kirk out” That was three. He needed five members to tag along, and suffice to say, Spock wasn’t around to add him. A cruel half grin formed now. He hailed Sickbay, “Bones.” He said cheerfully and received a ‘oh hell’. “Yeah, meet in the transporter room in ten minutes…Kirk out.” He sucked in a small breath.

“Lieutenant Uhura, where is Mr Spock?” he asked, turning his head slightly in her, “I’d like to know since he is the computer expert…then again….Ms..Yand, right? How’d you like to see the inside of a cargo ship?” his attention shifted on Janice, “I find its also a good experience for the…well, inexperienced crewmen to know first hand what goes on..”

Lieutenant Nyota Uhura....

Uhura did not wish to bring up the matter with Spock.
"Captain.. I don't think... he is feeling well." She stood up. "I would be more than glad to cover for him on the mission. I'm... I guess you could say.. 'savvy' with computers." She flicked her ponytail back and gave Kirk a confident smile.

Behind that smile though, she was still deeply worried about Spock.. for some reason, she felt that if it was here fault he was in the condition he was in.

Sulu raised his hand. "Sir.. I believe I could be of use to you as well, just in case we have to fight." He swiveled his chair to face the captains, which was of course, directly behind him.

"Me Sir?" She asked swiveling around in disbelief. "Sure! Sounds like fun." she nodded him off and turned around to face her control panel. Oh this was going to be awesome she thought, She was finally going to get a chance to do something hands on.

I mean, whats the worst that could happen? Its not like someone was planning a sneak attack on them. "Dont think that way" she whispered to herself. Like everyone else in starfleet. Janice had extensive field training. So its not like it couldn't handle any surprises.

She turned around again ever so coyly to get a better view of the captain, Oh he was cute Those baby blues shot frost up and down her spine. She'd have to control herself around him. "No boys, no boys, no boys.." she kept repeating in her mind. She looked at him again and turned around. " He was going to be bad for business, she could tell.

“Well, your fencing had come in handy before…” Kirk praised. He was considering it. That would be a bit more crewmen needed for the landing party. And he was a bit surprised when Uhura volunteered herself to take over Spock’s position. That meant, he was stuck on the ship. Sides, as regulations would have it, a high ranking officer needed to be on bridge at all times.

Spock was gone. Suluu wanted to go and there wasn’t anyone else to put his trust in. Hell, even Chekov wasn’t here. The poor Russian kid had gotten the flu putting him out for the moment. He had refused treatment for the time being. “All right. Sulu, Uhura and Ms. Land…You have the go ahead to join the party…but first.” He leaned to the side of his chair, locking eyes with Janice. Kirk had noticed her glances his way.

He snorted softly when she turned, “Have the scanners picked up any life forms? Life support? And of course..any bullshit?” had to make sure before he sent his people on over.

Uhura turned to her computer. "Nothing out of the ordinary sir... other than we cant get a hold of the ships crew." she punched a couple of buttons into her keyboard and got up.

"I'll put the ship in park." Sulu said as he pulled down the transmission shifter.
"But before we beam down, it would be best to contact Commander Spock, try to get a hold of him."

Uhura stared down and then back up at Sulu.

" Its Rand. Janice Rand.. Captain" she said in a clear voice. She opened her eyes and hooked her hair over her ears and began to run a scan. She dragged up a Blueprint of the other ship and ran it across a thermal scanner. If there was in fact anyone on board, there would be little clouds of heat signatures. Nothing.

"There doesn't seem to be anyone on board... Im still going to try the ships frequency just in case." Pushing her earpiece, Janice began adjusting her frequency waiting to hear something. Nothing but static. "Theres no response from the ship either, so its safe to say that its empty" she said swiveling around crossing her long legs. "Wait.." her face gave a look of confusion.."I could have sworn i heard something.." She quickly turned around and pushed in some buttons while holding her earpiece. "Hmm..." she said. "I guess i probably tripped over one of our frequencies instead."

She faced the Captain and flashed him a smile. "Guess we're all good to go.."

Krik frowned at the notion of hailing Spock in getting him to join the already growing landing party. They had what? Scott and his two men, Uhura, Sulu and the new girl whose name kept escaping him..oh, and Bones, just in case there was life still lingering on the cargo ship.

Indications of life were vague even with Janice’s report that she thought she had something. A glitch, maybe? The Enterprise would now and then experience some minor flaws. Other than that, his ship was top of the line. It was his after all. Kirk planned to keep her for many years.

Blue eyes blinked innocently towards Janice, “Thank you Ms Sand…the three of you report to the transporter room now. I’m sure Scotty and his men are there…along with a very happy doctor.”

His gaze shifted to Uhura, and answered to her request on contacting Spock, “I’ll do that, Lieutenant.” He said, switching on the professional mode on. With a quick input he was patched through to Spock’s quarters, “Mr Spock, you are requested to join the landing party to beam aboard the cargo ship…Acknowledge?”
