The Terra Nova came to a halt some thirty feet above the square below, with bewildered onlookers milling about below. Emerging from the cabin, the Corporal poked his head over the edge and smiled. Disappearing from view once more, a bundled up rope ladder suddenly flew off the edge of the airship, unravelling itself as it went untill it hung unrolled and ready to use at the feet of the waiting party.

A voice from above called out: "Come on, me pretties! I doubt the guards are that pleased with me!"

"Oh...my god.." Gile murmured as his cousin's ship roared overhead. This couldn't be good at all! Regardless...
Giles took hold of the ropes and pulled himself into the ship.

"Bit slow, are we?" Silas shouted down, growing impatient. Out of the corner of his eye he can see the guards emerge from a side street. With a gulp, he leans over and screams in desperation:
"MOVE! MOVE! MOVE!"

Giles, hanging about half way between the ship and the ground far below him peered over his shoulder at the approaching guards. Silas' sudden yell almost caused him to loose his grip on his sea bag, but Giles regained balance and scrambled up to rest in the opened bay next to the man who had just stolen his cousin's bold Terra Nove .

"This is to be quite the adventure isn't it?" He tried to supress a grin. This was the most interesting thing to have happened in weeks!

Dr. Hertford raised a hand to her forehead and groaned.

"Yep, this is going to be one of those missions," she muttered to herself, grabbing ahold of the rope ladder and beginning to climb.

If I ever get out of this alive, Dr. Hertford thought to herself as she swung herself aboard, I am demanding a raise. Still, she couldn't help but grin at Mr. Oates's enthusiasm.

"That it will, Mr. Oates. That it will indeed."

Rhett shielded her eyes as she looked up at the hulking thing overhead. Someone above, the man from the roof before it seemed, called down for them to join him aboard. This would be some trip, it was already off to quite the start.

Stowing her walking stick in a loop on her rucksack, the guide caught the dangling rope after Dr Hertford and clambored up. She tumbled over the edge of the airship, laughing quietly, and rolled to her feet. Quite suddenly, she found herself flying off to the Kongo on a stolen airship with a ragtag bunch of adventurers. Rhett returned her walking stick to her grasp and watched the guards close in on them over the edge of the ship. She bounced on her toes like an excited child. "How truly exciting."

((I was sort of wondering if this would ever get off the ground xp ))

Eufrasi sighed, pushing his hair free from his face and trying it back with a headband as the others jumped aboard the airship. He was sort of hoping he wasn't going to be the only thief aboard the airship... At least this knowledge would make it fairly easy to tell who stole any parts during the expedition.

Leaping for the rope ladder, he practically failed and slipped down a rung before gaining his footing and hauling himself up. He swung over the side, checking his belts and bandoliers to ensure that all of his tools and equipment were still on him. "Well, shall we get going before we start getting shot at?" he asked, glancing down at the ground at the congregating dock guards.

Giles continued to grin, and ran a hand over his short shorn hair a few times.

"Oh...who is going to fly her? I don't know how...I'm a scientist." He peered over the edge and quickly began to haul up the rope ladder, hoping dearly that no one had been forgotten below. Those gaurds did not look pleased with the way they were acting!

"I'm sorry sir's!" He called merrily over the edge, pleased that he was involved in such mischief for once, "We'll not harm anything else in your fair city!"

Dr. Hertford suppressed a groan as she pulled Mr. Oates away from the edge of the airship and out of view of the rather incredulous-looking guards. She had to hand it to him, he certainly seemed eager for the sort of danger that they would most certainly encounter on this mission. Whether that was a good or bad thing, only time would tell.

"I'll probably place Corporal Darkfeather in charge of navigation for the time being," she replied to the scientist's question. "He seems to know how to operate this vessel well enough."

Giles nodded in agreement. Whomever the good Doctor wanted to be their pilot was grand indeed, as he had no idea himself how ot fly the ship.

"Perhaps I could learn how to fly her eventually? It would probably be a useful skill.." he muttered half to himself.

Climbing to his feet, Giles made his way towards where he thought the passenger's sitting room was located. On his trip to the city, he has set up a sort of lab against one side in the windowed room, and he intended to insure it was still as he'd left it.

(( should I...draw a map of the ship, perchance?))

((I imagine it to be a rather small and pathetic little thing, if you do wish to draw it))

Smiling an evil smirk, he waved sarcastically to the guards below, who were now either half-heartedly firing shots at the ship, or had collapsed with exhaustion after chasing the craft. He pulled up the last of the ropeladder along with the last man aboard, looping it around a post. Wiping his hands, he brushed young Mr. Oates as he walked towards the wheel, hearing his mutter by chance.

"Mr. Oates, I would rather leap from this here airship than entrust her safety into your hands. I'm sure you'd soon discover a way to crash into clouds. Hands like yours were made for quills, sirrah, not mainsheets!" He grinned scornfully at the young lad. However, in the back of his mind he considered the possibility of teaching the boy. Long and sleepless nights spent guiding this rust-bucket over the black mass of Afrika did not appeal to him. "Besides!" he thought, "aren't Captains required to remain sober?" The very thought was so sobering, he immediately withdrew a hipflask and took a gulp before replacing it.

"And into the Heart of Darkness I shall lead them..." he whispered into the night.

Far below, the city slumbered. It never slept. Thieves took, cats meowed, women walked, men stalked, children dreamt, wind howled. Above their heads, the chunk of dock still hung suspended by the rope. Higher still, Dr. Hertford and her newfound crew stared out into the night.
They sailed due South.

(I'll get on that soon!)

Giles frowned,
"Sir, this is an airship! I hardly thing it has mainsheets. Perhaps lines for docking and all, but certainly no sheets to be found without sails!" He shook his head and opened the door to the sitting room.

The lab wasn't it the worst of states, but it certainly could have been better. The reckless take-off had knocked more than a few jars of specimens onto the soul. With a sigh he began gathering up the various spilled vials and bottles, and securing them to the table once more.

Once this task was finished, and the soul was wiped clear of any reminants of fermalidhyde, Giles Oates made his way to visit the control room. As he walked he looked at his long fingered hands.
"I could pull a halyard if I had too..." he thought as he entered the control room.
"Good Evening helmsman!"

(note: Soul = the name of the floor, when it is below deck, that is...)

((I'm sorry, we seem to have different ideas of what an airship is... No sails? A control room? This is the Victorian era, not the 21st century, am I right? A steampunk airship to me looks like this: http://www.visualparadox.com/images/no-linking-allowed-main/airship800.jpg Perhaps you're imagining a zeppelin? And aren't I the helmsman, as I seem to be the one who flew it here and just walked to the wheel?))

Eufrasi cantered up beside the man at the wheel, taking the time to examine the equipment there in case it was in need of direct repair. Fortune was on his side; the controls looked at least somewhat similar to a steamboat he worked on a few years ago. However, he couldn't help but feel that the rapid take-off might have caused damage or unnecessary strain on the ship's machinations, which was something he wanted to look at immediately.

"Well, Corporal," he said, partly mocking the manner in which he was addressed by the good doctor. "Once we're out of the city limits, you need to find a decent place to land this monster, or at least get close to the ground. I'll need to take a look at whatever damage you caused by your brash exfiltration and I'd rather not have the ship fall from two hundred metres to a mechanical error!"

"Oh, pish!" snorted the indignant Corporal, smirking at the lad slyly. "You sound like you doubt me pilotin' skills, matey boy! Wouldn't you trust me with your life, eh?" He looked into the man's eyes, almost as if he was interrogating him. "Well you'll 'ave to, once we get there." After an uncomfortably silent moment, he turned back to the wheel.

"If you didn't notice, chum, we have taken off without any food reserves or excess fuel, let alone ammunition! I'll land it outside of the next town, and you can put your paranoid little mind at ease there. Okay?" He began whistling a jolly tune, swaying from side to side as he steered, as though he'd forgotten Eufrasi existed.
