Ooh! -The Lord of Tofu has remembered something!
My three favourite role models, 0-3 years old:
My dad, late 70's/80's hippie (this is obvious after listening to his music) My mom's friend, Jenny, another 80's hippie. My mom's friend, David, yet another 80's hippie, with really pretty long hair.
Then, I moved from West Virginia to Oregon, but I maintained the same role models, in essence, except that I lost contact with David, and instead met my mom's friend Derek, who was very similar.
Also, the Beatles and Billy Joel hopped on the list.
At some point, Jesus Christ, Gandhi, Buddha, Bob Dylan, and the Dead joined that list.

TheArgus Yeah, me too. Though a lot of nature, good thoughts, and good music helped. Same here. whee My family has always listened to classic rock, hiked a lot, loved animals, cared deeply for the environment, eaten healthy, expressed opinions, and even burned insence and light candles. 3nodding

I hung out with my aunt a lot. She's totally cool and very hippie. She would talk about her views to my grandpa a lot and I saw myself agreeing. Then, over the years, it all just kind of built up more and more. Plus, my stepdad's mom is a total hippie and totally cool. I looked up to both of them and they become sort of role models to me. . .

gosh i'm not sure...but i might be able to thank my alcoholic dad... lessee...
i do know that... i have always thought living in a commune has incredible potential for fulfillment...
that i have always thought namebrands-highprice products were insane while shopping at a second hand store seemed natural and, well, why wouldnt you?
that it just seems wiser to try to minimize chemicals in my food and environment...
and that my dad's narrow-minded view of people of any color, race, persuasion, religion, ability, ANYTHING that was diff from us was an insanely stupid way to live.
label me hippy, or even hippy dippy as my dad says, all i know, is this is the right way to live for me.

Ahhh... *blushes* Well I met this guy right, this is back when I was in year 9 and really ignorant and pig-headed and your typical ... normal person sort of. But yeah, he is a real... you know, one of a kind. So I learned a lot of stuff, then I got to know a few more people with similar views. And they are all really awesome people, and I guess... I was kind of influenced by all of them. Plus I got some awesome music, which got me away from my really bad stuff.
See, year 8 I was insane and immature, then year 9 I decided... okay... I don't want to be crazy any more... So I didn't know what to become and I went all emo and listened to bad music and was all depressed... Then I brightened up and became a hippie in my efforts to overcome all the bad ... stuff... and well, here I am. Ahh, not saying that I'm not ignorant, because I mean, isn't everyone really, to some extent... ahh confused.

Woops, forgot to mention that. It was because of my family too... I mean... I was determined not to be like my dad and when I was a kid there was alot of violence in my family which caused me to become a pacifist and... well, I guess it was a combination of many things that lead to where I am today.

All my life I've loved The Beatles, but not untill last summer, did I really know what they were about.Only a few years ago I started hugging trees, but now knowing it was a hippie thing. When i got more into The Beatles I figured out what it was all about, and I liked the idea of saving the world, and bring happinesss and peace to all.So I became a hippie, and now I'm more happy than I've ever been in my entire life, plus I'm not depressed any more.Still today I learn more information about my 'rules' you could say, and what I can do.So, yeah...

i was bitten by a radioactive tambourine... lol
i started out ignorant and foolish, like most people do, but i also grew to be a preppy b***h. the summer i was 14 i looked back, and reevaluated myself, and i realised my mistake. from then on i simply tried to be a good person, at the cost of popularity.
then i met Brett. he was incredibly smart and had alot of political ideas. (very different though, he supported theocratical dictatorships) the sheer fact that he was even capable of that level of thought, as opposed to the air-heads i was used to, made me incredibly attarcted to him.
i wanted to have something in common with him, and one day, i heard him mention 'hey jude' to a friend, so i decided to give listening to it a try.
things just fell into place, and ive got about 10 cds of the beatles. we became best friends, and we often have political debates, as i support an anarchy-communistic government. i fight for peace and tolerance and love all around, wherever i go....and i do it barefoot! lol

I honestly don't really know. I guess one day when I knew what a hippie was and when I knew about them I figured...that's me. I absolutly LOVE the Beatles! I never saw them live unfortunetly but I got close enough, Beatlemania came to my town for the end of summer bash so I went to go see them. It was awesome! The thing that kind of makes me not a hippie is that I am an athiest. Don't get me wrong, i never think war is the answer. I am all about peace love and rock n roll. But I have no idea when I bacame a hippie, I just know that I am one.

My belief is that you don't become a hippie, I think you're just born that way. A 'free spirit'. I don't conform to anything, and have my own ideas about what I think is right and what I stand for and believe in. I don't, however, think you 'become' a hippie.
Neither of my parents are hippies, nor are my sisters, I'm the only one in my family, and I don't know where it came from.

My parents married in 1967 and became directly boring settled down people, conforming with everything... the could have had such a great time, but they can't think in a free way... I'm totally different from that, but have no idea where it comes from, I've always been like that.

Pink Floyd started it all. Then I got a guitar, went to peace rallies, wore tie-dye, and now I'm saving up for an old school VW Bug.
