.....and the barn i attend is a hunter barn, and we don't post to the canter either. (someone said this earlier..although it could be diff. for diff. places...and for showing, but i've always been taught to sit to canter) unless we're doing like, serious flat work....and by that i mean like....seriouuusss...haha. nevermind...

(someone said this earlier..although it could be diff. for diff. places...and for showing, but i've always been taught to sit to canter) unless we're doing like, serious flat work....and by that i mean like....seriouuusss...haha. nevermind... I've never heard anyone reputable from any discipline support posting into the canter, as in cuing for the canter from the posting trot. A lot of hunter barns on the East Coast (I had never seen it when living over here on the West Coast either) teach two-point before posting, and teach you to two-point into the canter. The idea was to protect the horse's back against the bouncing of the rider. I did refer to posting the canter, which is a technique that I was taught by a three-day coach that I used to work with. You still want to pick up the canter in the sitting trot or from two-point (depending on your horse) but you start "posting' once you have established the canter. It's a way to help develop and keep a steady rhythm, especially on cross country. Trust me, it's really easy to let your horse "get in a gear" and slowly start to accelerate while on cross country, and that can get you in a lot of trouble. One of my good friends' Prelim horse was in rehab for over two years because she didn't rate him back enough before turning into the water complex at an event and he lost his footing and hurt his knee. It was a very long, very slow recovery process, and he wasn't even "running away", just gets really strong on Cross Country. LoveIsForever - Yes, the "upside down" or "backwards" neck is bad. Like I said, the muscles that are most highly developed are the pulling muscles, which is what makes it possible for her to drag you out of your seat so easily. If you work on getting her back to relax and her neck to stretch down, you'll start developing the muscles of the topline which will make her stronger, fitter, and able to carry herself more efficiently without hitting you in the face with her head or dragging you out of the tack.

Stargazer- I appriciate your standing up for me, but me and RoseThorn kind of made up. :3
Aria- Yeah, her neck is definitely "backwards". But it really makes sense that the muscles just developed wrong. As soon as she recovers from her choking episode (Gosh. She's stall bound for a week or two. No hay. Watered down, soup feed with an antibiotic pill. Monitered grazing. My poor baby. She was freaking out even when I went out of sight for more than five seconds. It was pitiful.) I'll start working on getting her to stretch down right and all that fun stuff. And I will definitely work on everything that you suggested in your earlier posts, and in my other threads.
I want to thank everyone as well for their advice and critique. ^____^

SITTT!" haha i learned pretty quickly.

LoveIsForever... I am back! I'm so sorry I haven't been posting, but I was at the barn for 3 days, training that pony Hannah. I could only ride her on Wednesday though...It sucks. He left front leg is really sore for some reason and we aren't sure why. So, I couldn't get a vid of me riding her, but I did get a video of me riding a different horse. I will see if I can post it later. How have things been with Ruby? With the training and choking?

We have to keep her in a dirt pen so she doesn't get any hay. But we turn her out during the day when we know there's no hay. And we get to make this very nasty mush for her to eat. >.< We have to dissolve antibiotics into it. (All the pills should dissolve! It makes it so much easier to give it to them!) But I haven't been able to do much because it's been raining non-stop. And now, I'm sick too. >.> Tonsillitus. D: So I've just been having her do some stretches and all that fun stuff.

Our trainter just got a new Andalusian stallion named Andiamos ( we call him Andi), yesterday. He is a golden dun with half a dorsal stripe. He is gorgeous. He is 4 and never been under saddle. He is the sweetest thing. You would NEVER guess he was a stallion. He was trailered for 3 days without water and SOME food, so he is terrible weak and skinny and has no muscle. She is training him for a friend of hers. He looks like he has a lot of pentential, I will make sure to get a photo and vid for you of him.
