Raquel smiled down at him, not really sure what to say. She hated was here, hated how he got here, hated that he had to stay so long, hated that they're lives had once again been turned upside down... but despite it all she focused on the one thing she loved ...him.
She was about to say something regarding that when Nat walked in, carrying two coffees. "Hey Raquel, I'm not sure if its strong enough, but it might help you stay somewhat awa-" He stopped when he saw Damian awake. "Ah, hey there mate! heard what happened, it just awful...but you start feeling better and I'm sure you'll be back to bangin' around with this pretty little thing in no time aye?" He winked, making Raquel's face light up red.
"Get out of here you nasty little-" but her face stayed red even after smacking him a few times.
Nat merely laughed before shaking his head and giving her an apology. "I'll stop by to check on you both later. Feel better...I'm out." He kissed Raquel in the friendliest way he could on her forehead, even saying so to Damian. "I swear, the little fire cracker is all yours!" He laughed as Raquel smacked him right out the room.
She sighed,shaking her head but still laughing a little, despite how it hurt jsut a bit. "I'm sorry about that... how are you?" She asked, resting her hand on his forehead.

As Nat kissed and teased Raquel, Damian could only watch. He wanted to gently remove Raquel from that situation, reprimand Nat... punch him in his gut when he kissed her. But he was gone before he could do anything, not that he even could.
They say the tube will be out tomorrow.
It was while Raquel was away that he noticed his right upper arm was set in a cast along with his right shin. Everything else, he had been told, was just a fracture, and they had mended that to a safe degree in surgery without needing a cast. It was still painful all over, though, and still terrible to deal with.
It came out while you were gone so I could eat, but it was just a meal pill. I can't handle real food yet.

Raquel pushed some of his hair away for his face. Sounds good about the tube but... She looked him up and down. How are you like... physically?...Whats going on in their? She asked, placing her hand on his chest gently.
She knew he had a few fractures but exactly how severe the beating was she wasn't sure. All she could think about was his screams and cries as Andrew let out all hell onto his body.

Well... The voice o the nurse had to come back in his mind for him to remember everything that they had said they'd fixed and what he would have to heal on his own.
A broken rib punctured a lung, which is why I have a tube. My right upper arm was broke severely, so I have to wear the cast. Same with my right shin. I had internal bleeding, torn ligaments. The internal injuries are what they're watching. Everything terrible was patched up, but things are still rough.
He made it all sound so casual, but the painful experience was haunting him quite a bit. If Lorey was so frightened after her experience, he would be on edge for awhile.

Raquel furrowed her brow, sensing the emotion behind his casual nature. that was one benefit and con to communicating like this. They couldn't hide anything from each other. Raquel was silent for a moment, letting her hand go up to his heart letting it sit there a moment. I know you cant hold me, and I cant hug or kiss you... but as long as I feel this...I'm...I'm ok. Because I know you're still alive... She shook her head , pulling up the chair so she could be closer to him again.

Darling, I am healing for you and our dream. He pictured her in a wedding gown of some sort, not caring what type she wore. The designs went from traditional and poofy to short and slimming. Everything made him grin ever so slightly, no matter how sore and swollen his face was.
I wish I could hold you, so much. I wish I could have right when we were safe from them. I'm sorry I wasn't strong enough to protect you, to save you. I'm sorry.

Raquel teared up at his thoughts, moving her hand down to his left, making him feel that she had her ring again. But you were... You were stronger than even them. Don't you see that? She sighed to herself, trying not to cry. Even Richard who you seem to compare yourself to at times, would have been no match for them in the same situation... She knew Damian felt he was the weak one, and hated that. If only he could see himself as she did... wait- she could do that. She could let him see him how she did...
Damian... you put yourself in danger. You made a deal with your life in the hopes mine would be spared. Darling that there, is strength. She projected images of what she saw in him. All the love and adoration, how he was like her knight, her hero... her frog prince...
All the times he had stood up for her, and saved her. Times that he knew and should remember, from their first encounter, to their incident on Altru... to even some things he didn't know about. times when Raquel would be slipping and he'd saved her in ways he didn't even notice.
She also thought back to all the times he showed his strength. Not only physical, like carrying her down a slippery rock face, but also mental and emotional, when he helped her with her assaults and past problems that had haunted her. Most men would have run away at her tortured memories but Damian tried to embrace them and help her deal with them in a healthy way. That was strength to her...

Her thoughts drove away his own about her cries and pleas for him to have her stay. That was how she saw him? As a hero, a lovely person... It wasn't how the world saw him. Everything the papers wrote, she contradicted with evidence at what she saw. Some of it was embarrassing, as he didn't even try to comfort her by just being himself. Damian looked at the images in wonder.
You see me in such a lovely light, Raquel... I wish I could see myself as you do. My lovely princess, my strong, beautiful Raquel.

Raquel brought his hand up gently to her face, being careful as she knew he was still so sore. She kissed each of his fingers, removing her hand form his head only long enough to try and get her physical expression of love through to him, even just with his battered hand. "I love you..." She whispered, kissing his hand again, though couldn't help a tear or two from falling. She moved her hadn't back so she could tell him the next part in 'silence'.
I dont care how the world sees you. I dont care what you've done in the past... that doesn't define you. What defines you is the here and now. Damian ... You've done so much good that will be remembered far longer than the bad... And I know I'll never leave you, nor ever forget anything you've done for me... She wished she could just kiss him, but she could tell he was in so much pain as it was.

Silver eyes watered. Her lips kissing every finger tip, his hand, coupled with her words sent his heart into a knot. Damian wanted so badly to hold her and tell her everything was alright, that the bruise on her face would heal, and that all of this would be like a bad dream, but it couldn't be. He was just too broken.
Here and now I have you, and that is all that matters.
Tomorrow he would be able to speak. Roughly, maybe, but he would be able to talk to her, brush his teeth, kiss her. Life would begin again in very small ways.

Raquel nodded, stroking his hair a bit more. You should be resting... The more sleep you get, the faster you'll be able o get out of here right? I'll be right here...I won't leave your side... She promised, still holding his hand with her free one.
And don't worry about me. I might just nap myself, but I'm just fine alright? ...Its you I'm worried about... She squeezed his hand slightly, even allowing her thumb to stroke his forehead.

With her touch, he could rest easy. Damian closed his eyes with one last 'I love you,' before slipping off into sleep again.

If Raquel could see dreams, Damian would have wanted her to see this one. He dreamt of his mother, standing in the garden they once had. She looked beautiful again, just standing there in the sunlight. She was smiling at him, looking so full of pride that she could burst.
"Mama!" he said in a voice that sounded distant from him. Damian ran to her, enveloping her in a hug. It had been so, so long since he had even seen her face, yet there she was, clear as the day around them.
She said only two words before the garden began to fade and and else went away with it all too soon: "Good choice."
She slipped away, and Damian was sent into his familiar blackness.

Raquel felt she had a somewhat similar dream, though wasn't sure since she was only holding his hand. If anything she just blacked out as well, feeling so tired and strained.
By the time she re awoke, Damian was still sleeping. It looked dark out, and she was a bit hungry herself, not having eaten since the previous night. She left a little note on the chair for him to see, saying she'd only be gone a moment while she left for soemthing to eat. Usually she wouldn't be so hungry, but it had been almost over 24 hours since she had had anything but coffee.

Damian wished he could at least say that he was running on coffee. He was running on meal pills, which gave him the nutrients and full feeling, but he still felt rather empty. It was a strange combination, knowing you were full but still wanting to eat and taste something.
While Raquel was gone, the nurse came in and removed the breathing tube from him, making him choke and gag. But, it was out, and the new struggle of breathing on his own would commence.
"Thank you," he said to her, before she had to take her leave.

Raquel returned just a few minutes later, realizing her exhaustion was making her not as hungry as she thought. That and worry. She made herself eat a small little wrap, and a pastry to go with her coffee before she just had to get back up to Damian.
When she got back to him, the first thing she noticed was he was awake, then the fact the tube was gone. "Darling...?" She came up next to him, setting her coffee down. "How are you?" She felt as if she'd asked that a million time already, but planned on asking it a million more until he got better.
