Zach laughed, this time it wasn't sad or forced.
"As much as I would like to be normal, I do what I do for myself, not because I follow a trend or a role-model. Popularity seems to have a nasty habit of only selecting the most perfect sheep to be it's little b***h. I do not even consider myself a sheep, so as you can see, I have no want for popularity."
Daria understood perfectly(though his outburst had startled her), even the arrogance that now stained Zach's voice. In a world full of normality, the extrodinary ones either stood out or were crushed beneath the feet of those who wanted to be more than they could ever become.
"I see popularity only coming with what I might do. It is a by-product of what I might choose, but not the desired out come."
Zach seemed to have calmed considerably, a good thing in Daria's wry opinion. Who knew what he woud conjure when he was upset?
" Popularity...with it comes power, even if it is only over those who wish it." Daria murmured, her voice lower than the sounds around her. When she was little, that was what she wanted to be; but as she grew older and saw the outcomes, she changed her mind, going directly in the opposite direction. Daria shook her head, there was a saying that she'd once heard. That power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. It coudln't be true, could it? Daria looked down at her hands, that was one thing that she never wanted to become.
"Is it true," She began, looking back up at Zach, her voice starting as a whisper, growing steadily till it was normal. " Could our powers corrupt us? Twist us so that we cannot see the truth?"
Before he could answer, Daria moved quickly, leaving the area. She didn't want to know the answer, she wanted it to not to be true, though everything she'd ever known told her the opposite.

Zach just watched as Daria ran away, from both him and her problems. That was never something he would do...
"Of course it does...” he muttered to himself. To whom much is given, much is expected. Something his mom had always told him, a quote from the bible or something.
He was given more than he could possibly ask for. The intellect and ability to do what ever he wanted. The possibilities were endless for what he could do, and as his own imagination as a limitation, he had little to worry of.
Although Professor Xavier saw that they should use their gifts for the betterment of humanity, Zachary could see little obligation to do so. He was above such obligations; he was the moment he was born. The only thing he could help others with would be to help them to his level of accomplishment. He was blessed with the time to contemplate and learn, and he would use that to find a useful purpose for his ability.
Zach looked down at his wrist, examining a watch that he had created. The time was exact, meaning he was getting better.
With a smile, he walked off on his way through the park.

Zach had made his way back to the school, taking care to stop and smell the flowers, all be it in a metaphorical sense. New students were coming in by the bus loads it seemed; every week there was some one new, some new twist on a typical ability. Telepathy and elemental manipulation seemed to be the most common, besides super strength or speed. Just simply super!
By his assumption, yet another new student roamed the halls.
She was a good three to four years older than him, as were most of the students, almost as tall as his older brother. Slim build, athletic physique. she looked like she might do some sort of Tai Jitsu or the like, particularly because of her posture. She was definitely new, particularly visible in that sparkle of joy in her eyes.
Hello, Mrs. Telepathy. Zach thought, a smile on his face and nodding to her. So how goes the mind reading? Control your powers yet or you just reading me because of my stunning looks?
It was something he thought every time he met a new student. He was amused beyond reason, and it was comforting to know that if some one was in fact reading his thoughts, then they would get an interesting surprise.
Besides, she didn't seem like a telepath. Except for that look in her eyes...
The only students who looked that were ones who had disruptive abilities, particularly when they feel at home. That might mean that...
Then Zach felt ice curl up his spine.

Daria beat herself over the head mentally as she walked back to her car rather quickly. She was running away..something she'd alwasy criticized others for doing.
It was just that when she was talking with Zach, an idea had popped into her mind. It was something the Prof. was always saying, how the powers are gifts, and should be used as such. She'd realized some time ago how her powers could be used in said fashion. With her gift, she could save peoples lives, well, people who were drowning anyway.
But when she was talking with Zach, something she'd never thought about came up. If she could save people's lives, she also had the power to do the exact opposite, and according to the saying, people with power were easily corrupted. How easy would it be for somone with the power over life and death to become corrupt, to think that they were somehow better than the rest?
She just wanted to believe that the saying wasn't true, that it didnt happen that way...
Daria got into her car and headed back to the estate, taking the long way around. Her mind was whirling with the emotions that she felt. She knew she shouldn't be driving, knew it wasn't safe, she had scored highest in her driver's ed class. But it was as if her thoughts were chasing her, and she needed to get away.

((Hey Gilyan, nice to see you here.))

Gilyan
Katlyn squeaked when she heard someone talking to her, in her head. That was not expected. "Sorry. I didnt mean too, I just got here and I just got this ability. I didnt know that you could pick me up." Katlyn decides that this guy had been there for a while, so he could know where she could find some place safe from everyones thoughts or a teacher to help her real fast.

"Excuse me though, could you help me find either someone to help me get some control or someplace away from here?" Katlyn asks, trying not to read anything, focusing as hard as she can to keep her mind "in".

Zach smiled painfully, slowly turning back to face the new girl. At least she didnt think he was a complete jack a**. Despite the fact that he didnt care what others thought about him, making fun of people for something they couldnt control was something he was above, and would rather not send the wrong impression.
"Oh, no. No, no, no, no." Zach quickly replied, reassuring himself as much as her. "Its no problem, I just- well, uh, yeah..." He swallowed down a lump in his throat as he glanced about the hallway for a moment, trying not to make eye contact. He wouldn't be surprised if he was blushing. After a moments breath, he quickly pulled himself back to his normal cool and calm.
"If you are interested in controlling your abilities, you might want to talk with Professor Xavier." Or continue reading people until it only happens when you want it to... "He helps every one who is new, and I am sure he could help you." You must have talked with him at some point in time... "Any of the teachers would surely help you." Except for Mrs. Grey...
Now he could not stop talking to himself...

Katlyn winces as the speed of his thoughts increase, overwhelming her for a moment. Then when he calms hisself, she could breath. "Could you please stop talking to yourself so quickly? You're thoughts are starting to get painful. Can could you lead me to someone to help? And I'm not going to ask about Mrs. Grey." Katlyn almost pleads with him.

Zach smiled the same pained smile, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Well hey, Im not used to having them read." He said, hoping she understood that he didnt mean- Well she couldnt talk with Mrs. Grey unless she had a séance- to hell with it. Of course she knew what he meant.
It was useless...
Just go down that hallway, take a left and you should be in the great hall. Zach decided it would be easier to think rather than talk, and whether she would understand it or not, that was just the way he was going to work it.
God he hated telepaths...
Well, in the sense of that I like having my thoughts as my own and I just dont work well with people reading them. I have enough trouble sorting what I want to think, so you are getting the unfiltered Zach in the boat loads.
I am sure you have had to deal with that for some time...
Just take the left down that way and you should find Professor Xavier. Hell, he’s probably found you by now...
Zach felt even more uncomfortable than he had before, but at least now she would understand what he was thinking.
Well at least as much as anyone else...

Daria pinched her eyes shut for a second, as if to clear her mind from the troubling thoughts. When she opened her eyes, and animal was on the road, right in front of her car. Screaming for the animal to move, a wall of water pushed the creature clear, and Daria twisted the steering wheel hard to the right.
A sudden jar and crash ended the scream as Daria slammed in to a tree and her head bounced off the arm she thrown up to protect her head from the steering wheel. She'd managed to slow the car considerably, Daria'd only crashed into the tree at about 45 instead of the 60 she'd been doing. It still hurt, the speed only relatively lessening the damage.
The last things Daria thought of before she passed out were memories. One was of a time she had crashed her bike. Her mom later told her that though her knee was dripping blood, much like her head probably was now, she'd been crying about her pants. They'd been her favorite jeans, and she'd torn up the knee.
The other was her mom telling her that if she ever had to chose between hitting an animal or a tree, the animal woudn't kill her.
Feeling the sleep overwhelming her, Daira reached out and pressed a very un-used button on the underside of the steering wheel. A safety feature installed on every car in the School's garage.

"Daria, wake up." A very insistent voice female voice said.
Daria opened her eyes slowly, she wasn't in the car, but rather in the School's infirmary. She tried moving, but her head hurt and her arm felt unusually heavy.
" Good, now hold still." A light flashed in her eyes and she groaned quietly. If they wanted to blind her, they were doing a very good job. When the light had flashed through both eyes, Daria brought her hand up to where her head hurt the most, just over her left eye, her fingers coming in contact with a small band-aid.
" When we found you about 3 miles from the School, you had a small cut above your left eye and a break in your right wrist. You were unconscious, but have only been so for about ten minutes now. I've already set the break in your hand and put a light cast on it, so if you'd like, you may sit up." Daria finally recognized teh voice as belonging to Ms. Grey.
"The animal?"She asked her throat hoarse, and dry as a bone.
"There was nothing at the crash except you, the car, and a lot of water on the opposite side of the road." A glass of water came floating over, as well as a couple pills. Daria took both and swallowed, hydrating her thraot.
" The car?" She asked, wincing, she guessed there was probably quite a bit of damage.
" Not too bad actually, the front has a dent, but the engine is still intact, and works as well as it did before. Mr. Summers told me that your next lesson with him would be repairing your vehilcle"
Daria smiled, wondering how she was going to manage a wrench with her left hand. Opening her mouth to ask about Phoenix, her question was answered before she began.
" If you were wondering, Mr. Osaki has recovered enough to be sent to his room, he's now just regaining his strength."
Daria nodded, that was good at least. She looked down at the cast on her right hand, then lifted it up.
" How'd I manage this anyway?"
Ms. Grey smiled. " As far as we can tell, when you hit the tree, you threw up your left arm, but the impact was enough to break the skin over your left eye, you'll probably have a black-eye in a short time. I believe your right arm was flung against the gear shift with enough force to cleanly snap it."
Daria nodded once more in agreement, beating herself up again, she should've known better than to drive when she was upset.
"Would it be all right if I wondered around?" She asked.
"That would be fine, but if you start to feel dizzy..."
"It's off to the dorm, right?"
It was Ms. Grey's turn to nod.
Daria slid off the table easily, the pain slight, but not enough to interfere.
"Thanks for patching me back up." She said with a grin, she'd refrained from adding the "doc", but the line still fit perfectly.
Daria headed out the dorr with a small wave of her casted hand.
"Where to go now?" She mumbled to herself. "Oh well, might as well get it over with... to the garage."

"Just stopping thinking in circles!" Katlyn shouts, then storms off to follow his dirictions. As she walked away, she felt the sudden halting of his thoughts and the silence that followed her shout. I wish I never got these powers, they are more of a curse then anything else. I can't help myself and there he goes, practicly shoving his thoughts down my throat. She fumes to herself, as she storms down the hall. As noone is close enough for her to "hear" she relaxes and starts to slow down, enjoying the mansion. She takes the left at the Great Hall and heads towards Prof. X's study.

She knocks on the door, but no one answers her knock. With a slightly frustrated sigh, she sits down in one of the chairs near the door. Leaning her head against the wall, Katlyn hears a different voice in her head. So, you are having trouble with your powers? Come on in, and I shall help you. I think that a private lesson with me should be schedualed, for the use of your powers. The door opens and Prof. X. is sitting in his chair waiting.

The next hour is the most intense hour Katlyn had ever been through. It was pretty hard, but well worth it. "Come back tommorrow, and we shall continue. That shield you have learned to make shall serve you well against most of the student's thoughts." Prof. X says as Katlyn heads towards the door. She waves over her shoulder and says "Thank you! I'll see you tommorrow." Katlyn heads back towards the dorm sections, ready to take a nap or relax in her room.

Daria crept into the garage suddenly stopping and nearly laughing at herself. She must be the biggest numbskull in the worlds. Here she was sneaking so no one could hear her when she wanted to talk with Mr. Summers.
Shaking her head, she straightened up and walked into the main room of the garage where Mr. Summers was standing over a shimmery bluish purple Bradley. Her parents had spared no expense with the paint job.
"Ah, there you are Ms. Manorey. I was going to ask Jean to send you down as soon as you woke up."
"Daria smiled then winced and opened one eye.
"So, what's the damage?"
"Nothing you won't be able to fix," He said with a smile at her odd expression.
Daria opened her other eye and relaxed her face.
" The right headlights busted, the front's a little dented, and you'll have to replace the front right tire, but the engine is still inact and running. Now's also the perfect chance to check it over, and work out any bugs it still might have."
Daria's shoulder's sank a little when she first saw the car, but after Mr.Summers' evaluation, it didn't seem so bad. Still, even if she fixed it up, she wouldn't be allowed to drive her baby around around until her hand was completely healed.
"Since you probably will neither be allowed nor able to actulaly work onyour car today, I'll take you through the step-by-step's. Then, when you ace those, you should be able to fix up the car with only my supervision."
Daria nodded and followed Mr.Summers to the seats they kept in the garage.
* * * *
An hour later Daria finished the study for replacing the right headlight. Looking at her wach, Daria felt her stomach growl. Considering that the ice cream she'd had that morning had been the only thing she'd eaten, 2 o'clock was pretty late.
Stopping by in the kitchen to grab an apple, Daria winded her way through the mansion all the way to the Prof.'s office.
Her approaching footsteps must have alerted the Prof., for as soon as she stopped to knock on the door, it swung open and her spoke.
" Come in Ms. Manorey, how are you feeling?"
Daria smiled and nodded her head,
" I feel okay, but there was something bothering me."
The Prof nodded and gestured for her to sit.
" I was talking with one of the other students this morning when the subject of popularity came up. I started thinking about how with popularity comes power, and that power tends to corrupt."
" Ah yes, that old saying. What was it that worried you?"
" Well, I have this power, and I just realized something. I remebered what you'd told us about using our gifts to help mankind, and I found a way I could. But then I realized something else, I could also do the exact opposite. I don't want the saying to be true, because that would mean that I could also. That's what was worrying me when I crashed."
The room was totally silent for a moment, the Prof. was trying to decide how best to answer her statement.
" Daria, the saying is true, but only if you allow it to be. If you resist the temptation, you won't have to worry. Take Ms. Grey for an example, she has much power, yet she uses it wisely. You always have a choice, if you choose to use your gifts to hurt, then yes, the saying is true. But if you walk the oposite path, then it's nothing more than what it is...words.
Are you feeling better now?"
Daria nodded and rose from her chair.
"Thank you Professor, I understand, and yes, I feel much better."
She turned and left then, her mind satisfied. Working her way back to the kitchen, she got somehthing more satisfying to eat.

Katlyn had been getting hungry, and her breakfast seamed to have been a long time ago. Trying to remember where the kitchen was, she headed off in what she thought was the right direction. It was and she stop just before entering. She was alittle afraid of going in, and nearly bolted and ran bac k to her room. But, she steeled her resolve and opened the door. A black and blue haired girl was gettign some food also. Katlyn nods hello, and grows a tad bit more confident when she doesn't "hear" anything from the girl.
PostPosted: Tue Nov 29, 2005 3:11 pm

Daria looked up from the cabinet she was searching through when the door opened.
A tall girl entered, she appeared a little worried when she tipped her head in a hello, but she relaxed visibly a moment later.
Daria waved her casted hand a little and smiled.
" Hey, are you new here? I didn't see you come in."
Finding what she wanted, Daira pulled it onto the counter and closed the mahogany door. Humming quietly to a new song she'd heard, Daria opened up the bag of cheetos while she waited for the girl's response.
Frowning slightly, she walked over to another side of the kitchen and opened a drawer, pulling out a a pair of slender wooden sticks. Reaching up, she grabbed a small bowl with her left hand and filled the bowl with the chips.
Daria smiled, even without her right hand, she'd completed the transaction in less than a minute.

"Umm.. Yes. And if you don't mind me asking, what happened to your hand?" Katlyn answer, somewhat shyly. This place was so different, so special. It was just wonderful. Katlyn opens a few cabnits to see what there was. Open the fridge, she grabs some cold meat and a few peice of bread. She makes herself a sandwhich.
