Yarah's mouth formed a smile. He raised one of his arms to show an arm bracelet. What was special about the bracelet was that it could turn into an instant medium sized shield. "My style focuses on dodging and defense with shields. Merely sparring would help me focus my fighting skills." Fighting with gigantic swords was not Yarah's thing.
"If I might ask, why is it you fight?" This was a Demon-Major. One would think that he would want to get away from fighting or be bored with it by now. But Tanto was standing in front of him and still battle ready. I wonder why that is. Yarah was always a curious person.

"Simple sparring is something that I am capable of assisting you with."
At the question, he paused for a long moment. "I fight because it is what defines me," he said simply. "I am not a Demon-Major of sin, carnage, pride, lust, or anything such as my brethren. I am a Fallen Angel that was not given a purpose. I make my own on the edge of my sword. That is enough for me."

As they made their way through the corridors of the Ley Runner, they came across Edward Ridley discovering that the doors to their quarters were not opening.

Tanto experimentally punched the door at about 40% of his strength to see what would happen. Maybe it was just jammed.

"Entertain yourselves. We have another individual on-site we'll be bringing on-board to round out our team," the captain instructed them over an intercomm.
Elsewhere, a Demon-Minor by the name of Xane was informed of his impending assignment by a messenger - in the middle of his sleep, no less. By the time he was awake enough to comprehend his surroundings, he was walking towards the crew quarters, following vague promises of future explanation and hastily-given directions, until he came across the assembled individuals of the team he was on.
Well, that was new.

Tanto looked up at the new arrival and promptly turned and walked away. He really did not like all these new people around. Was there any way he could just be on a team with Sai?
Oh man, the damage they would do...
The Demon-Major would avoid meeting the new recruit for as long as he could. He didn't want to form a relationship with someone only to find out that they were weak and useless to his ends. If possible, he wanted to avoid talking to them at all until he had seen them fight.

Yarah sighed and put his hands behind his head. "Man, I wish there were girls on this ship. It'd have been nice to have some female companionship," he murmured. And by female companionship, he DID NOT MEAN sex. Just some subtle ogling.
But then a newcomer showed up. That was pretty awesome in his opinion. Tanto was a good guy, but annoyingly not talkative. "Tano! It's not nice to leave so fast. Don't you want to meet our new comrades?" He walked up to the big guy with a slight smirk. "They may not be as strong as you, but they'd at least be interesting. For anyone to be on this ship means that they have to have some sort of advantage. Wouldn't you want to know what his is?" I can safely say that we're on good terms, but I don't really want to wear out our tentative friendship. And it'd be nice if the entire team could get along.
He didn't want to be the only trying to reach out. Diplomacy was a skill he had, but that didn't mean he wanted to make a career out of it while on this ship.

Xane looked over his assembled comrades with some distaste. Honestly, one had just walked away when he arrived. Xane clicked his tongue against his teeth, sparking a small gout of flame, as from a lighter or a welding sparker. Very bad form, that was. He rolled his shoulders, glowering through the fugue of drowsiness. Gods below, he needed sleep. He sighed, putting his coat on finally. He would have done it earlier, but...
Someone woke me up and made me come here and be ignored...
He walked over to his "comrades," automatically sizing each one up. Whether any of them would be useful in battle, well... he would just have to see. He put his hand out in a friendly gesture, though somewhat marred by the glare constantly fixed on his face. The men here reeked of suspicion, indifference.
"Xane," he said simply in a gruff English accent. "Look forward to working with you."

Tanto did stop walking, though he did grace the Demon-Minor with a one-shouldered shrug. "Do I want to meet him? No."
He slowed for a moment, pausing at a corner in the hall. "You...have a point though. If he is on a crew that also has Sai and myself, he might be something useful." He paused, thinking. "I am going to see if Sai is available. If he is - or if he is not, for that matter - I will be belowdecks, training. If you or the new arrival desire a match, find me. I am also willing to speak with the one called Ridley."
Then he disappeared around the corner.

Yarah waited until Tanto disappeared before letting out an irritated sigh. "I really wish someone could beat the arrogance out of that demon." Buuuut no one's gonna do it 'cause there's no one around that could. That was gonna be annoying.
He turned around to see Xane holding out his hand. "Sorry about that. He's a bit rude, but really good at what he does. Unfortunately," he muttered that last bit out. "I'm sure he'll warm up to you soon enough. Well, so long as you survive battles. Of course, you will be surviving 'cause you've got me around." He pointed at himself at the end of his half-apology half-rambling. "My name's Yarah and I'm the field medic for our group. I look forward to working with you too." He took the offered hand and shook it firmly. "So what is it that you specialize in?"

Xane blinked. He was quite unaccustomed to straight-out, blunt rudeness. He humphed in appreciation. Much preferable to the skittering and a**-covering other people tried to do. Open. Even if he was rude- honest was honest, after all. He turned to Yarah. He was also unaccustomed to being shown such kindness. He even might have cracked a smile. Usually one had to prove themselves in an army. And yet, this demon was willing to trust him straight off.
He put his hand on the Demon-Minor's shoulder. "Appreciate the help, friend, but I can handle m'self most o' the time. Thanks anyway, though." He turned to the Demon-Major that had just left. "If one of these blokes has an issue with me, t'ain't your fault, anymore than 'tis mine."
He considered what Yarah said. "Can't say I'm a specialist in nothin'. I'm an able hand wit' fire, but that's about it. Battle and such. Not nearly as useful as what you do- we got enough killers in here withou' me."
He considered the Demon-Major's comment- Tanto or whatever his name was. He could use some sparring- he was getting a little rusty. He followed Tanto down the way he had just gone, turning to Yarah.
"Thanks again," he said, clomping down the hallway.

Mmkay. Well, it wasn't too bad of a beginning. Why are my teammates socially distant? And then there was the macho-ness to deal with (mostly from Tanto). This wasn't to say that he couldn't prove himself to anyone if need be, but what was the point? They were all working towards a common goal weren't they? Wouldn't it be better to just get along?
"Oi, wait up!" He easily caught up to the other guy. "What, you were gonna leave me behind? That's not very nice," he said playfully. "Oh well. I'm gonna catch up to Tanto and see if he's up for a match. I can tell when I'm not wanted for a conversation." He enjoyed teasing people. It looked like a lot of people on this ship were going to need to learn how to socialize properly. He might as well be the one to start it with some good ol' fashioned non-demeaning teasing. "Good meeting you I guess." He gave a short wave and quickly left.
He started walking at a faster pace and easily found Tanto. "Hey. You interested in a spar right now? You mentioned it earlier, and I gotta admit, I could go for one right now. How about it?" It would be fun. Yarah could easily fix himself up in the middle of the fight if need be. He also wanted to see how he'd fare against a Demon-Major.

Tanto nodded without speaking. "Sounds good. I have been informed that Sai is unavailable for training at the moment, so I believe you will be an acceptable, if incomparable, substitute."
He looked for the door to the arena. "Are Ridley or the new one coming as well?"

Xane walked up to the two demons, catching the tail end of their conversation. He humphed again, sparks running up his arms with his frustration. He had never learned to control that, unfortunately. He growled slightly at Tanto, though he could do no more than that. He was a Superior, anyway. He crossed his arms at the two.
"It's Xane. That is my name, Superior. Not, 'the new one.' If you are going to judge, at least do it by name. And also, yes, I am coming. But not to watch," he said, even smirking slightly. "I need to get my joints moving again- and a good spar is always the best way o' doing so."
He cocked his head, wondering what the Superior was looking for. He clacked his teeth, striking sparks. "So... shall we go, then?"

Tanto somehow managed to completely ignore the fact that the new one - he would not call him by name until he had earned that right - had even spoken, but he found the door he was looking for and pushed it open.
Inside was a large room, along one wall of which was a rack of various weapons. The floor was padded, as were the walls and ceilings. It was plenty large enough for a good fight.
Tanto strode into the middle of the room and morphed from his human form into his Major form, standing almost three-quarters of the way to the ceiling and stretching his arms. His sword appeared in his hands and he waited silently for the others to join him.
