Interesting. From what Tenkyuu knows of dragoncats, they are a predator. To those they highly-esteem, the reptiles will bring prey. Perhaps Kan thinks more of Hitsuga than he believes?

... Or perhaps it is merely because he shares a bed with Baikou. The elderly woman looks up at Hitsuga teasingly as she effortlessly slips the ribbon to-and-fro, keeping it from the kitten's claws.

Aaah, this one will have to learn many techniques before it will be able to keep up with Tenkyuu!
PostPosted: Thu Jun 25, 2009 12:01 am

Hitsuga watches the dragoncat and his senior interact with one another and feels a smile ease over his features, smoothing away the furrows of flustered annoyance.

It is most certainly Baikou Kan esteems of the two of them. She will sit calmly in her lap or engage in gentle play with her. Around him, Kankan behaves differently.

Or....erm...

He shakes his head, catching himself using the nickname he'd christened the beast with. KAN behaves differently, he corrects himself, flushing some.

Even as the conversation takes place, Kan is oblivious, watching the ribbon with irritation as she tries to apply the same method she had to Tenkyuu to it, planting herself on the ground and watching expectantly, waiting for it to come within her reach. When it dances teasingly over her paws, however, composure is forgotten as the dragon-cat goes sprawling and flailing once more.

And yet the ribbon dances, letting the tips of claws slip along it but never allowing itself to be caught. The emerald cloth seems to laugh at Kan as it sways along, guided by the Dragon Knight.

Kankan, eh? Tenkyuu shifts her eyes to Hitsuga, her head cocking to the side as familiar amusement appears on her features.

It seems that despite Kan's nasty behavior, Hitsuga is coming to love the animal, is he not? Or should Tenkyuu call her KanKan, asks the elder with eyebrows playfully risen.

Also, Tenkyuu wishes to know the cost of the candle? It looks quite expensive, and for the cat to maul it... Well, Tenkyuu must simply know how much Hitsuga has sacrificed in that cylinder for his reptile's pleasure.
PostPosted: Thu Jun 25, 2009 12:19 am

He would....not say he is coming to love the creature. He IS, however, growing to tolerate her.

...or rather, is trying to. He has found that he cannot truly detest anything that Baikou finds good in, after all.

He only wishes she would stop being so destructive...

And as for the candle...

"It is all right." he murmurs, bending to pick it up, flinching as Kan momentarily regards him with large eyes in the midst of her ribbon frenzy, then resumes her attack, deciding that the flailing satin menace must be dealt with firstly, THEN she will tend to The Pale One aiding her lesser enemy.

After a few unfortunate incidents in his shop back home, Hitsuga has come to expect that one or two items will be destroyed unintentionally now and again by customers dropping them or knocking them from the shelves.

Madame needn't worry herself with it. And, at the very least, he'd much prefer it to be a candle rather than a perfume. ....or one of his base oils for that matter, he adds, fixing Kan with a pointed look that, again, goes ignored.

Kan has MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THINGS to worry about right now! scream

And as pain begins to shoot through Tenkyuu's hand, she winces and promptly retracts the satin into her lap--Kankan shall not have it after such a poor battle. Her opposite hand moves to stroke at her aching wrist, rubbing away the sensation of probing needles as she shrugs with a smile at her host.

Tenkyuu will find out one way or another; she is a woman after all. As she releases her aching hand, it again moves to take up the ribbon and begin flitting it along Kankan's view, letting her once again fling herself with abandon at the emerald enemy.

While Hitsuga might find good in all that his beloved cares for, Tenkyuu knows a woman who knows a woman who might be able to make sure Kankan disappears. That same playful look is attached to Tenkyuu, but it's really hard to tell if she's joking...

... or deathly serious.
PostPosted: Thu Jun 25, 2009 1:07 am

Kan is momentarily annoyed to see that the ribbonbeast has fled to the safety of Tenkyuu's lap. Coward! WRETCH! stressed She sits on the floor, glowering up in the direction its disappeared, tail lashing furiously. Her hindquarters wriggle as if she's entertaining the idea of venturing up after it, before....it descends down on her again.

A sneak attack! It is more wily than Kan had thought!

The perfumer is unable to suppress laughter at how Tenkyuu manages to keep the beast off-balance and flailing, yet never victorious.

....and then eyes her oddly at the offer, seeming to have trouble discerning the validity of it.

Ah...no, Hitsuga thanks Tenkyuu, but he is sure things will work themselves out one way or another. sweatdrop He supposes, in the longrun, he can say that Kan is more gracious a houseguest than some who have apprenticed under him in the past, after all, he chuckles.

And Tenkyuu proceeds to stop directly attacking the reptile--Kan's reflexes are becoming faster, after all, and she starts to expect Tenkyuu's attack style. Ever the tactician, Tenkyuu starts dragging the ribbon along the floor, simulating a retreat from the ravenous beast.

Quick, Kankan, time is of the essence!

Tenkyuu's eyes shift towards Hitsuga, one eyebrow rising as her freehand casually taps her chin. Is Hitsuga suggesting that some of his apprentices have gone missing under suspicious circumstances?

As a Dragon Knight, Tenkyuu will have to take note of that.

Well, until her bribe, of course.
PostPosted: Thu Jun 25, 2009 5:54 am

And Kan is having none of that...!! She may not have started this fight but she WILL. FINISH IT. Crouching, she lunges across the floor in a skitter of legs and teeth...!!

Oh...! No, they had not--

He winces as the scrabbling of claws on the floorboards ends in a small thud as Kan collides with one of the shelves and looks warily in its direction. When nothing seems upset, and Kan seems unhurt as she resumes her assault, he continues.

--they had not disappeared at all. In some cases, to his chagrin, he adds with an awkward sort of laughter. It is not, Madame understands, that he wishes any of them ill, it is just that it usually was a grating experience, to speak to a fellow perfume artisan who had come to him to learn how one who has taken the name of Heaven has perfected his craft so that they may apply it to their own.

They were often so set in their ways that he and they spent more time arguing over how things were "properly" done than he spent doing any real teaching...

And Tenkyuu eyes the cat, watching her continue to battle her lean opponent. Kan has a one-track mind, doesn't she? So near did she come to death, and yet she happily plays seconds later.

Tenkyuu's attention soon focuses on Hitsuga after his reveal, her dancing hand seeming to be but in the back of her mind despite the claws that could potentially leave her an impromptu blood donor. It is easier to teach children a craft than to change the assumptions of a so-called expert, suggests the Heavenly Bow with a sigh. Tenkyuu has encountered many similar to Hitsuga's disciples, sadly.

Tenkyuu wished them horrible deaths as well, reassures the warrior to the perfumer.
PostPosted: Thu Jun 25, 2009 11:13 pm

Hitsuga feels his eyes snap wide at Tenkyuu's assurance.

Ahh, he doesn't wish them DEATH, but....

....yes they were aggravating at times. sweatdrop Or it could be also that this one is a poor teacher. It is much easier to simply do than it is to explain to someone else how it is done, as he's sure Madame well-understands and...

....and that cat never runs out of energy, does she...?

On Kan's part it is not playing, so much as it is righteous indignation. And much tumbling, skittering, growling, and flailing ensues as both ribbon and cat engage in their life-or-death struggle.

Swipe! Swipe!

Grab! Grab!

SNAG!

eek And for one brief moment, Kan freezes, the green ribbon caught on the tips of her claws as if unsure of what to DO with it now....

Tenkyuu's freehand settles underneath her chin, propping it up as she watches Hitsuga. Master Hitsuga's wife must have a lot of fun teasing him with all of the reactions he gives.

And oh, Tenkyuu agrees wholeheartedly. It is hard to make someone see your own passion and techniques. However, Tenkyuu is sure Master Hitsuga had a positive impact on at least a few of his former pupils.

With Hitsuga's comment, the warrior's eyes shift to the floor with the cat who performs every gymnastic move aside from handstands in an attempt to get the ribbon. Upon the cat's success, Tenkyuu laughs faintly, letting the kitten bask in her accomplishment...

... before giving the string a suddenly sharp tug.

"Now she'll have to learn how to detach herself," explains Tenkyuu calmly.

It is his hope that he has, yes...

If nothing else, he was able to learn from a few of them, at least. In their arguing, he received better insight as to what perfumers bearing the name of fire, earth, and water seek as ideals in their own creations.

Even as he explains this, he is unable to stifle another chuckle as Kan, not allowed to reflect on her victory for long, is yanked forward, sending her balance off-kilter as her belly drags across the floor.

Yet still she does not relinquish her hold. Giving a reptillian hiss (directed at the ribbon, not at the woman holding it), she attempts to lunge at the offending creature to better get it under her control, succeeding only in hopping foolishly like a hooked fish.

And how does a perfumer of Heaven practice his craft so differently from the other elements? Tenkyuu is of the same element, as Master Hitsuga might know, and she is must curious as to how their element touches the realm of perfumes. Master Hitsuga will have to use very simple projections for Tenkyuu, however--she is a layman and, thus, quite slow.

Her eyes settle on the kitten, unable to let go due to inability or foolishness, her eyes sparkling with familiar memories.

"It takes a long time to get into the minds of dragoncats, and I have had many companions to help me along the way," murmurs Tenkyuu.

Perhaps she will take this one off of Master Hitsuga's hands? She laughs softly before following the cheerful sound with a sigh.

While he would have no objections to Kan going home with Madame Tenkyuu, his wife, he fears, may be another story...

And then, rounding back to the previous question....he does not suppose they are vast differences, really, but perhaps noticeable once one knows what it is they're looking for.

A perfumer who is Heaven-named, he explains, tends to discard most impurities, seeking the cleanest portion of his materials to be worked with. This results in his wares having a high, sweet sort of tone to them, which compliments florals very well...but some may find his work to be impotent and too mild.

Whereas, compared to....say, a perfumer who is Earth-named. HIS work will have a richer, loamier scent as he will intuitively select materials rich in his element to work with. That which Heaven dismisses as unclean, Earth may embrace as workable. But likewise, his perfumes may be criticized for being too strong.

He falls silent, hoping he is making sense...

Kan pauses, sides heaving a bit with labored breath from the nonstop war with the ribbon, though she continues to dangle stubbornly from one paw to it as its wiggled. Despite being fatigued, she is still determined, apparently, it will be hers. stressed

Yes, Master Hitsuga's wife would assuredly dispose of Tenkyuu shortly after Master Hitsuga met his end if Kankan went missing.

And as Hitsuga begins to speak of his craft, Tenkyuu listens to his earnest talk, taking in the basics of his trade. She only speaks when he finishes, not wishing to interrupt such pure words that reveal more of who the perfumer is.

Master Hitsuga made complete sense--Tenkyuu feels lucky to have had such a teacher. She is sure that a teacher of Earth would have used grandiose descriptions that easily led to confusion for one such as her.

Bless Master Hitsuga for his pure words. Tenkyuu actually grins before her eyes descend to the reptile--she could continue, and further frustrate Kankan, or she could do the more interesting thing...

... and drop the length of ribbon on Kankan's face, as she just did.
