Once more, she found his replies more than appeasing; they were perfect. She hadn't realized she was holding her breath again until he had finished his story about himself, her eyes a little wide. Burn scars on his left arm as a kid? Alex had more scars than most boys when she was a kid, so she could understand them healing as a youth turned into an adult - but hers were slightly more permanent. She wanted to ask more questions about it, but if he didn't remember, she didn't want to pry. Maybe some other time when they were...i-if they got...closer.

"Zul loves video games," she commented with a fond smile, "and I like them too. Sometimes it's nice to just stay inside and play, but it's definitely more fun with company." She let herself imagine, for just a moment, the two Raevans and two humans battling in some four-player game, and the feeling it gave her, along with the thought of family, made her switch topics with butterflies. "I get a lot of scars in my line of work." She paused, eyes momentarily averted. If there was anything she was touchy about, it was this. "I'm glad." Despite how huge the topic was to her, she couldn't bring herself to talk about it more, not really wanting to bring up the thought of her exposed body during a dinner conversation. Sure, she had the one on her ribs and hip that she'd exposed before, but the other was not something that'd seen the light of day.

It was hard to tell if she was blushing from her thoughts or if she lit up at the mention of apples, sitting a bit more straighter and leaning forward. "Wonderful! I have the best apple dessert I'll have to make for you! It's a wee bit sweeter than apple pie," she pinched her thumb and forefinger together as though to measure just how 'wee' much more it was, "but it's delicious. Deep fried apples and cinnamon and sugar with a raspberry--oh but you'll just have to see me again for it." Alex grinned widely, teasing, challenging.

Which quickly turned into a sweet and grateful smile to the girl, giving her a wave. "Thank you!" she called after Suzy left, tilting her head to the side and laughing softly. "Aphi, I think I could sit here for days and just talk with you." The earnest in her voice left her tone warm and doting. "Would you...mind, staying a bit longer? I'm having a great time." There was hope in her green eyes, a not-so-subtle curve of her lips that gave truth to her words.

Certainly, she'd have Zul to return to within an hour or two, but right now...it was just her and Aphismet and the wonderful atmosphere between them. She wanted to hold onto it, just a little bit longer.

Aphismet raised an eyebrow softly at the way Alex was reacting to the scars conversation. She seemed almost... unwilling? Reluctant? Well, whatever it was, she was not going deeper into the topic than to say "I'm glad". Glad that she got scars during her work, or glad that Aphismet's was healed, or glad that he didn't think they were a big deal? Ah, Aphi didn't want to ruin the atmosphere by prying, so he let it go. Perhaps later on, if they got to know each other better and were more comfortable, she would feel alright telling him what she'd held back on this time.

Thinking about her and Zul playing video games brought the same mental image to Aphi's mind: the four of them playing something together, everyone enjoying everyone else's presence... Alex's sudden exclamation as he blurted out how she had the best apple dessert was a very effective distraction, leaving Aphismet laughing softly. "I like apple, no matter how sweet! And you don't need to bribe me to see you again, silly. I'd visit you as often as you'd let me!" He managed to only blush a tiny bit at the overly-bold declaration. "It sounds delicious, though..."

Aphismet grinned at Alex's request to stay a bit longer. He couldn't agree more, and he motioned Suzy over one more time to fetch them a small decanter of wine; they'd leave once it was empty.

~~~
A little over an hour later, the decanter was finished and Aphismet had to admit that they had to leave: the restaurant would be closing in about thirty minutes. Besides, both of them needed to return to their Raevans, although Riv had Isi and Eiry to look after him. Smiling broadly, his face flushed from the wine, Aphismet had escorted Alex downstairs and then called her a cab, waiting with her in the lobby until the vehicle pulled in. Neither of them should be driving in this state, he'd said with a falsely-serious face.
As he opened the cab door for the lovely Italian, Aphismet's smile took on a more subdued quality than the bright, beaming expression he'd been wearing for the past little while. "Tonight was a lot of fun, Alex. ...Don't let months go by before you call me again, okay? I'd really like to see you again, and soon. ...Well, have a safe drive home." Without thinking, the chef leaned closer and pressed his lips to Alex's, his fizzy mind noting how similar they tasted to the wine by now. Maple syrup and wine... Delicious.
Pulling away slowly, dark eyes barely cracking open to stare at the woman, Aphismet felt rather lost and dizzy for a moment. "Ah... Good night, then." He smiled in a rather silly fashion as he stepped back to allow her into the car.
The evening had passed in the blink of an eye, but she could tell by how light and giggly she felt that she'd had enough wine to pass it thusly. Alex held onto Aphismet's arm just a bit more firmly than she intended to, partially leaning on him, one hand full with her clutch and the flower gifted to her previously.
Everything seemed to be happening at a pleasant type of blur. The lights on the street were bright and had a nifty starburst effect on them, her addled mind wandering down the path of wondering if she could recreate it in a painting. She was so busy staring off into space when the taxi came that she nearly jumped when her date tugged her towards the vehicle and opened the door for her. Such a gentleman, even if she had startled herself!
I wont, she tried to say in reply to Aphismet's words, but her mouth was too slow and there was a sudden warmth there that hadn't been for much longer than she'd care to admit. She blinked up at the chef wide-eyed, and only once he pulled away and said good night was she able to unfreeze her limbs, putting the items in her hands against the seat carefully. Alex then turned to her date again, her expression almost confused; her brows were askewer over her bright eyes, lips parted and her jaw ticking to the side in thought. She could not, for the life of her, desipher if she'd just day (night?) dreamed he kissed her or not.
Only one way to rectify that.
She stepped up and over the curb towards the chef, miraculously managing not to trip and fall into him, even though her fingers did lace into the front of his jacket. Alex leaned in and touched her lips to his, almost hesitantly, making sure she wasn't missing entirely before pressing a more firm, affectionate kiss to him. She lingered for several heartbeats, and when she pulled back, her expression was still one of great consideration. "Need to try that when I'm sober," she said to herself, although it was spoken out loud and clearly.
With a smile that was borderline goofy, she giggled in a breathless manner and stepped back towards the taxi, retrieving her items and taking a seat. Tugging the train of her dress into the vehicle, she smiled up at him as if she hadn't just assaulted him with a kiss mere moments before. "I will see you soon," she stated, not giving room for arguement. Her words were slightly accented, the liquor bringing out the natural inflection she had managed to smoother over so many years. "Thank you for the perfect date, Aphi. Send my love to the family."
The door was shut, and all too soon, she found the image of the white-haired chef fading. Alex lifted her hand in farewell as she gazed out the back window, watching until she could see him no more.
Aphismet's own taxi had pulled up behind Alex's, and the chef only had to wait for his date to leave. He smiled at her non-stop as she got in, but the smile dimmed as Alex turned a strangely confused look his way. Ah, she'd not liked the-
"Mnh!" Aphi sounded, startled beyond all reason as the woman suddenly moved much closer again, kissing HIM this time in a complete 180 of the previous situation. He looked at HER with widened eyes, his limbs only unfreezing once she stepped away.
Her goofy grin was mirrored by his own, and he nodded at her words as she drove off, waving. He then woozily got into his own cab and headed home.
..About half-way to the Delaran house did her words truly sink in. She wanted to try that when she was sober? Aphismet grinned. Oh, how he agreed.
