((And I thought it was the best offense is a good defense...?))

Kanda seemed to be somewhat submerged in the intricacy of Captain Bullene's fighting style, even though he realized that his Captain was not fighting at full strength by any means. Despite the fact that all of his thinking processes were fully occupied while trying to follow his Captains movements, he was able to barely notice the new reiatsu that appeared behind him. After hearing the somewhat familiar voice speak to him, Kanda turned his head with a rather confused expression from trying to figure out who it was. Upon sight, he vaguely remembered the shinigami's face, but could not exactly put his finger on where he knew him from. Kanda was a bit perplexed for a second as he tried to recall the shinigami that was before him. He dug deep in his memory bank until finally remembering the very shinigami, whom he thought was named Kaisho. "Hello again, Kaisho!" he exclaimed while giving a warm smile, even though in his mind he secretly wondered if he had the name correct. For a moment, he debated what to say from there until finally he had a good thought. Kanda stood up from his sitting position on the rock and faced Kaisho. With his zanpakutou still inside of its scabbard, he took it from its resting position on his hip and set it next to the rock. "Since they are busy, I thought it might be fun to do some training of our own," he said while beginning to stretch his arms and legs. Kanda took his upright proper posture once again and then locked eyes with Kaisho. "What do you say to a foot race just between friends?" he asked, very curious to hear his response. "How about from this rock right here to that tree out there?" he asked again while pointing to a large dead tree about 200 meters out. Kanda had confidence that he would triumph over Kaisho, for in the Academy he was one of the fastest in his class.

((I was being literal. It means, using the joints: knees, elbows, wrists, shoulders, ankles; of your opponent to defend against them without actually meeting their attacks head-on. By defending through a blow to the elbow, you can manipulate a punch to go off course. By hitting the knee, kicks go off course.))

(( I guess I was right in saying that my grasp on what you meant was way off warm. ))

Kaisho wanted to sound confident about his speed, but with the confidence he was met with, and indeed the challenge set to add to that confidence, he wasn't so sure of what to say. As he thought of a response, he initially thought of the distance as rather short, from a training point of view anyway, despite being able to run particularly fast himself. He did not want to insult Kanda's proposition by voicing his thoughts on that distance, but he did not want to decline the challenge either. Eventually, Kaisho decided to remain quietly confident and accepted the request with modesty.

"That sounds like a good idea, Kanda-san." He said, smiling. He prepared to put his full effort towards the challenge, although he suspected a sense of guilt if he won comfortably.

Ichiran walked into the training grounds, his dual zanpaku-to slung on his hip, and a confident smile spread across his face. As he neared his squad members, he looked through all of them to see if he could discover which one was his captain. He stopped when he saw the white robes of a captain worn by a shinigami named Bullene. Walking towards him, Ichiran bowed with respect, saying as he did, "I wish to become stronger, my captain. I am new in this squad, but I hope one day to climb up the ranks to become the fuku-taicho."

"So let's begin, shall we?" Kanda asked while propping one foot up on the rock behind him and Kaisho. He took one last opportunity to stretch his arms before leaning his body forward to take a stance as you would when racing in track. "Runners, take your mark!" he exclaimed so that Kaisho could clearly hear him. Silence came over the air for a second, but it was soon broken by the loud exclamatory statement, "Go!" Kanda shot from the rock less than half of a second after the race began. He paid no attention to Kaisho as he sprinted, making sure to go all out on the first 100 m. The whole time he made sure to keep his breathing steady, but still rapid by using a common running technique of inhaling through your nose and exhaling out of your mouth. His form was fantastic; his arms were moving up and down as they should and he ran on his toes the whole time.

Right up until the 100 m, Kanda had been conserving energy to unleash an all out sprint to the tree, and once he felt it was the last 75 m, he began sprinting fully. His arms moved more rapidly along with his legs and he made sure to inhale and exhale as much as possible. The chosen finish line was in plain sight and Kanda still refused to slow down. He crossed the finish line, still going full speed and finally slowed down until he came to a halt. He bent over with his hands resting on his knees to catch his breath, seemingly not interested in if he won or lost. "I feel like I am in high school again!" he yelled out while regaining his posture and laughing a bit. Kanda was panting heavily despite showing any signs of slowing down in the race, and now began to walk around so he would not cramp. He took as many deep breaths as possible before abruptly stopping to lay down in the grass. He sprawled out on the ground and stared at the sky with smile on his face, the warmth of the sun now bathing him. Soccer and running, these were the two things that kept Kanda sane in his high school years and once again he felt happy.

((Kyground: I know, from first hand experience, that both Kenpo and Bujinkan ninjutsu utilize strikes with that same function, to break the incoming "weapon". Kenpo is mostly strikes, ninjutsu is a mixture of grabs, locks, and strikes. Just wanted to add my share of knowledge. Anyways, back to the fun part...))

Sweat poured down Rokera's back. Hands, once flesh and blood, had taken on the essence of a much less lively element; a numb, lifeless rock. His heart thudded almost audibly, his body being taken to it's utmost limits. Yet, he still had a grin on his face, and his eyes seemed no less lively than before. Training had always had this effect on Rokera; the simple knowledge that every punch, every kick, brought him only more strength, fueled an unstoppable cycle of training, one that would not stop until his body was broken.

The circle pattern that the scroll had contained seemingly appeared in his vision. Many lines passed through it; forming an endless web of motion, of possibilties. Every attack that could ever happen is on this circle, Rokera thought to himself, amazed. And if I know how everything moves..I know every move to counteract it! Rokera furrowed his eyebrows, focusing hard. He began to flow through a pattern of blocks; inward, upward, outward, downward, the weapons of a thousand enemies coming at him from all directions. The circle itself was not one dimensional; no, it had an infinite number of positions. Every strike had it's own circle, so did every one of Rokera's sides. Every step he took had a line of motion, or an arc that it slid upon. So many things would open up to me, just by mastering this one concept.

Rokera stopped his blocks, suddenly. Now.. He sat down, crossing his legs in a meditative position. He closed his eyes, darkness enveloping him. I must learn to master my own mind. Time seemed to slow to a stop; his outside senses became dull and slow, all color fading. It wasn't as if color mattered anymore. No, all that existed for him was this void of his mind. Flashes of memories and experiences floated by, all screaming for attention. "I never knew my mind was so...jumbled! he spoke aloud in his head. Fiery in appearance, what appeared to be a small ball of red and black marbled energy floated by. A tendril of his thought reached out, grabbing the emotion. A sudden burning sensation, undertoned with darkness that left a bitter taste on the tongue, flooded his senses. Anger. He put it beside his inner self, keeping in mind where he put it. His final goal was a makeshift attempt to organize his scattered brain, which he figured out, after the first few tries, was quite hard, almost impossible. Some things just didn't want to be organized, they preferred their freedom, even though their master wanted them to become the opposite. Rokera was focused now, in two seperate planes, so much, that he hardly noticed the feeling.

It felt like a stranger was watching him. A stranger in his own mind, yet somehow, familiar.

Kaisho took his mark, kneeling on the floor with his hands held in line with his shoulders. Looking behind him, he noticed his clog sandals were not adequate for a race, but refused to take them off. Instead, he placed his left leg onto the rock, scrunching his right knee close to his chest. He knew that from this position, his condensed body would shoot forward and that he would have to keep low for a least 2 seconds before rising his body. He just had to make sure that his body did not lean too far forward.

On the signal, it was obvious that Kanda would be first off the rock, since he was the one initiating the call and thus would react instantaneously. However, the explosion of pace meant that whichever way Kaisho looked at it, he would be able to close that initial gap lost almost as quickly from having to react to the voiced stimulus.

The two launched off the rock on the signal, and Kaisho drove his arms backward and forward, twisting his shoulders side to side with each stride. His head and body hung low, the shingami uniform brushing against his knees. His legs powerfully struck at the dirt, his thighs , calves and hamstrings shuddered on contact with the surface beneath him. His stride, though rather short in the forward stride, compensated with a massive push-off phase. His arms, swinging past his head in this low running posture, aiming to give him enough drive for when he eventually lifted his head.

By 20 metres, Kaisho had risen up to a fully straightend position. His arms now rose forward and at shoulder height, and swung back as far as his gluteal muscles. His legs remained the same, as did the slight twists of his body. His breathing became methodical in nature, making sure he inhaled and exhaled as much as possible within a particular amount of strides. It was a habit in which he would force his body to use as much as it could take before needing to eat into the reserves, then exhale until the need to take in oxygen roared at his brain. This process, which he managed to test, let him take a comfortable four strides without needing to inhale, then a further four before he had to exhale. Kaisho used this frequently, as it was his own way of keeping reserves, although in actuality he was making full use of his energy stores without his body feeling the urge to dip into reserves.

As they approached the 100 metre mark, Kaisho decided to take a chance by decreasing his strides per breath to three, and slightly increasing his stride frequency so that he could maintain his speed. As he carried on through the last length, he felt his brow forming multiple beads of sweat that dropped onto his lips. By this time, he had no intention of wanting to know where Kanda was, focussing only on getting past that finishing line; nothing more. He did not care about winning, he did not care about losing, all he wanted to do was make it past the line and applaude Kanda for recapturing a feeling that he thought he had lost on the day he died.

As Kaisho crossed the marker, he heard Kanda yell something out in what he could only make out as joy. He allowed his breathing to go at its own rate. Forcing his body to work in such a regimented way made it extremely difficult for him to regain composure, and felt the heavy hand of fatigue press upon his body. He placed his arms behind his head to allow his chest better elasticity, the outline of his ribs almost visible even through the black kosode. Once he felt as though his body had gotten to an adequate state, he managed his breathing once again with slow inhaling and exhaling.

His breathing stuttered as he began to laugh, going through all that pain and effort was probably unnecessary, but the feeling that made him laugh was realising that in doing so, he experienced the memories of his life as a human. In the end, it was all worth to trouble of racing Kanda, once again feeling happiness within himself. Just then, as the light that winced his eyes momentarily vanished, he noticed Kanda walking around.

"Thank you, Kanda-san..." He murmered softly, a warm smile on his parched lips.

Bob sighed continued to walking in the circle his whole body now aching and on fire, changing directions back and forth. The pain of his body seemed to only motivate him more, this feeling brought a certain fire inside Bob back to life giving him a new energy to feed off of and continue this rigorous training to rid himself of the blocky movements that he had clung to for so long.

His eyes seemed to glaze over as his body was moving in smooth and circular motions but he was now doing the task without thinking almost as if he wasn't there. "That looks like me...... but how am I watching myself do the training?" He thought as his consciousness seemed to sink away into the corner's of his mind as his body continued to train without thought or feeling. "This feeling....it's odd..... almost as if I'm watching myself train. Now I know what it's like to be on tv" He thought as he continued to watch the little man walk back and forth around a circle.

Bob awoken from his trance the large burning sensation now washing over him as sweat continued to drip in the circle. Kanda's yelling in joy had snapped Bob out of his trance and brought him back to the world. He looked around, a smile crept across his face as walking in this circle, doing it in a fluid motion was now something manageable without concentrating. "I think I'm getting the hang of this" He proclaimed to everyone in the training grounds. A wave of excitement crashed over him as he started to believe this training was working.
